  • Kallie has just been moved to Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. She's been reunited with two females, Martika and Shenga, and a bull Willy, all she knew from her past. The new exhibit has a pool and lots of enrichment activities, plus an extremely dedicated staff, She's going to receive the best of care in Cleveland!

  • @thesauce1991 Thanks for posting the information here. I am glad that Kallie will be in such a good zoo. I am also glad that the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo keeps people well informed about what is happening with its animals. I am looking forward to knowing how Kallie is getting along with her new companions, and if she remembers being with some of them in the past.

  • I love this video because I love the elephant name Kallie and its my favorite elephant name. I want to ask you a question, is Kallie a boy or a girl?

  • @TylerJamesDillLebron I'm glad you love this video, too. It is one of my favorites that I recorded. - Kallie is a girl.

  • What is the ICC? I'm wondering if the Zoo sent the elephants away for financial reasons. I know zoos are really suffering during the current economic downturn, and elephants can be expensive to keep.

  • @happycozy ICC stands for International Conservation Center. And I know all zoos are having financial problems. But in my opinion sending animals away should not be an option or even a consideration. I also believe the AZA should have an endowment fund set up to ensure that no zoo ever has to send any of its animals away because it can no longer afford to keep them. (continued ...)

  • @ZooVisitorMM I agree with you. It seems that when you take on an animal, you agree to take care of it for the rest of its life. Also, elephants are highly intelligent, so the move has got to be stressful for them.

  • @happycozy And in this case, the fact that they left such an exceptionally good life to go to a place that seems to be nice, but definitely not exceptionally good surely adds to the stress.

  • @happycozy (continued ...) In this case, the Philadelphia Zoo said it could not afford to create a new elephant exhibit, but I think the Zoo could have afforded to keep the two remaining elephants in their existing exhibit, and to have made some improvements to that exhibit. However, they also wanted to transform the Pachyderm House into a new Children's Zoo/Education Center, so that was another factor. (I really object to that!)

  • It's a real shame that they don't have a pool anymore... If I were in charge of a zoo with elephants, I would make sure that they had a pool with plenty of fresh water.

  • @phantompanther That's why I wish they were still in the Philadelphia Zoo and not at the ICC. (And that's also why I like discussing zoo exhibit design with you - you and I both want more than just good care and a good environment for the animals. We want the very best!)

  • @ZooVisitorMM Yeah, I can definitely see why... It really is a shame, as elephants tend to like water and this clip shows that. ( The very best, indeed! I'm glad you like our discussions! ♥ )
