i don't know why they want to recall the tower "willis tower", it's stupid, the tower is too emblematic to be renamed like a simple office building... and the owner of the tower doesn't matter, look at the chrysler building, it does'nt belong to chrysler since 1950, but it has kept the name... so why not doing the same for sears ???
I've been to Chicago plenty of times, I go a million times every year, but I've never realized how tall the Sears/Willis tower really is!! That's sooo cool.
@pinky9e Yeah it's hard to see because it's build in sections where it's hard to see the top standing under it vs. the World Trade Centers where you knew those damn buildings were both massive and tall. Those buildings scared the shit out of me. I remember standing up under them, the height and size were surreal.
The Sears and Big John Hancock both show the true genius of Bruce Graham and Fazlur Khan. These men were architectural giants on the level of Louis Sullivan and William Van Alen. R.I.P. guys, all of you left your marks on America's skylines.
@save16thave The Sears Tower while it's a cool building isn't the most creative design. I know that beauty is subjective, but compared to the John Hancock, Chrysler Building, Empire Stare Building and many of the contemporary skyscrapers over in Asia and Dubai, minus that ugly ass Dubai tower, the building looks dated.
@epics7 The creativity of the Sears Tower's design isn't in it's beauty, it's in the bundled tube structure. It used less steel and was cheaper to build than a normal skyscraper so Sears could build taller and make more profit. In terms of pure beauty nothing can beat an Art Deco skyscraper. I think the Chrysler is still the most beautiful skyscraper ever built. Some of the Asian scrapers are nice, too. As far as the Burj Khalifa goes, I concur with you!

I know that beauty is subjective, but compared to the John Hancock, Chrysler Building, Empire Stare Building and many of the contemporary skyscrapers over in Asia and Dubai, minus that ugly ass Dubai tower, the building looks dated.

@epics7 The creativity of the Sears Tower's design isn't in it's beauty, it's in the bundled tube structure. It used less steel and was cheaper to build than a normal skyscraper so Sears could build taller and make more profit. In terms of pure beauty nothing can beat an Art Deco skyscraper. I think the Chrysler is still the most beautiful skyscraper ever built. Some of the Asian scrapers are nice, too. As far as the Burj Khalifa goes, I concur with you!
