i disagree forbjok, i didnt find Amelissan that hard to beat, im not trying to brag or anything but for me the hardest part about her was that you had to fight her three diffrent times and i didnt have that many healing potions when i battled her i ended up beating her the first time with jan, keldorn, and korgan dieing with my dwarfen fighter/cleric, saverok,and edward suriveing to finish her off , but i must agree iranicus cant touch Amelissan and demegorgan is the hardest ever, cuz i beat him
@TehD00de, one question: when a character is shapechanged (as per the 9th level spell), does he retain bonuses from his equipment? I know his weapons are temporarily nullified and replaced with the natural weapons of his chosen form, but what about the other equipment on him?
No they do not. They gain and function off the stats whatever the creature they shape change into has.
It's a great spell, it's just too late in the game for it to be useful compared to other spells you get this level. Especially when you have Chain Contingency (three Horrid Wilting), Spellstrike, Time Stop, Wish, Dragon's Breath and Improved Alacrity
You get to keep any protection spells you cast on yourself though, so load up on Stoneskin and Protection from Energy first!
@TehD00de, doesn't chain contingency still work if you are shapechanged if you cast it BEFORE you cast shapechange? I know you can still use innate abilities while shapechanged, which means you can use any trigger-type spells you cast before shapechanging. I don't know, however, if the G3 fixpack changed this. Do you know if that was changed in the fixpack?
@TehD00de, and what about the Strength score bonuses? Shapechange iron golem gives you, I think, a THAC0 of 3 and 24 Strength, but is the 24 Strength bonus of +6 to hit still gained as well? If not, that would mean your THAC0 is actually worsened by the spell if you're a high level Fighter/Mage...

If you get the +6 bonus to his from 24 Strength when shapechanged into an iron golem, that would mean your base THAC0 is actually -3 instead of 3 when you're an iron golem.
@KhagarBalugrak Nope. First of all the highest your Strength can ever go is 25, and whatever bonuses you would get from having 24 Strength from being an Iron Golem are the combat bonuses you would use. Bear in mind also that Iron Golem fists don't count as normal weapons.

Grab a wizard... Preload with nothing but summon demon (level 6+) then summon and kill, summon and kill, ding max level. This game was epic. One of the great RPGs ever created. It is still good even though it is 2d.
Level 40 how is that possible ? i think my highest lvl character in a team of 6 was lvl 27 at this time. i remember minsc being only 22.. Which made this fight quite a challange. a huge one infact.. i can't explain how angry i got in the end . But it only makes victory so much sweeter when you finally accomplish it.
You see if you have the game on a harder skill; the enemies will be tougher but you'll also get more experience for killing them :) (I remarked on that when trying heart of furt mode in IOW: Heard of Winter)

@Dimajo You're welcome :) If that's what heart of fury mode did to Icewind Dale it's bound to do the same to Baldurs Gate being based on the same rules etc. I remember killing some Barrow Wights in Icewind Dale: Heart of winter; each offered about 3,000xp normally but with heart of fury enabled aside from being a lot harder to kill they gave me 15,000xp :)

@Iroukugan No hacks, some classes can make it to lvl40 in the ToB, to be fair this boss fight was actually toned down. There is a fan patch that puts back in the original encounter which is really hard.
Not so difficult when playing correctly. I did the whole game (BG II + ToB) with one credit, without dying. My main character was a sorcerer, the strongest of all the characters in the game :)
That's the truth, I didn't cheat AT ALL going through BG1 and BG2 + ToB, but I could NOT beat this final boss. Finally gave in and cheated on just her fight, insanely difficult.
me teh same. I had to beat her just one more time, but I couldn't make it couse they summoned so many demons and beholders. i had lvls around 30/30/30 (mage/cleric/warrior) and a team that I took just before the fight, but still so insanely hard
Definately play BG1 before you start BG2. BG1 is better from any aspect except the graphics, but they don't differ much. I enjoyed BG1 more than 2 in the end. BG2 is almost equally great, but it focuses alot more on action and diversity of your abilities. In the end I've played them both atleast 10 times through or almost to the end. My favorite games, and for a good reason.
BG1 had the most amazing setting/story ever for me.
I had no problem beating him... but this boss fight was so impossible for me I ended up cheating. Something i almost never do. I just needed to know how it ended :(

The fight is difficult because the bitch practically cheats.
1. She doesn't cast magic to summon minions. She simply calls them and they are all powerful and immune to death spell. In less than a minute she can flood the map with demons/slayers/mariliths.
2. Everything she does either casting or punching doesn't take time
3. And the worst of all is she flees if her HP is low and comes back not only restored but also stronger.
4. You practically fight 7 battles, 4 with her without rest.
The key is to ration your spells and abilities and save after each fight. To me, it wasn't the bitch that bothered me, but the party of demons I had to go through to cut her off for the final time. You would think level 30 characters would be able to resist Charm.
Baldur's Gate (I & II) : the best games ever created - along with Planescape : Torment. I've always wondered who were the key individuals who made these games so good. Are they still around ? Bioware's stuff went downhill after they split with Black Isle Studios in my opinion. The Baldur's Gate games have the best writing of any computer games - ever (though I've never played the original Fallout games.) Imagination from the gods !
Yeah, Bioware went to shit after they split from Black Isle, nothing special about their games any more. NWN and KotOR were such huge letdowns.
The team from Black Isle reformed into Obsidian Studios, who made KotOR 2, but what they have in creativity they seem to lack in planning/management and the ability to handle publishers who want games out for deadlines. The result was KotOR 2 basically being released unfinished. :(
A Bioware/Obsidian partnership might bring the best of both worlds.
and btw, in Throne of Bhaal i find a kinda funny place, it was almost bug. When u first time go to Sendai's enclave - she will try to stop u, and that's the place where we can get a little profit. We need tonnels, where horde of duergars trying to kill us. What's the profit? They never end. U can reach levelcup just standing there and killind little dwarfs. But it's very boring, and it can't be done with a mage team.
Melissan can be beaten VERY easily w\o any cheats or smthn. I have a team - my char is cleric with CromFayer, Sarevok with 2-handed sword, Keldorn with Carsomir, Valygar with 2 catana\longsword. All 3 part of Melissan's fight - i had Imoen and Aerith, they must run away for deepest part of this stage - coz they can't do much damage in this fight. Nex Keldorn,Sarevok,Valygar(all three with the Boots of Speed) - using Greater Whirlwind - Melissan die in 10 second. Easy.
This game was fun the first time, once youre no longer a noob, it's so easy it's boring. tactical mods make it even more boring. since they get rid of all the overpowered spells, its basically debuff-smash-rest, over and over, with all your hits doing 2 damage max, and all your offensive spells doing zero damage.
Without using the so-powerful-it's-almost-cheating mage/sorcerer trick of pausing instantly before her magic protection is up, using 3xLower Resistance, and then using 2-3x Abi Dhalsim's Horrid wilting, Amelissan is very nearly impossible to beat.
Indeed, probably one of the hardest boss battles ever. (unless you use the almost-cheating trick of course)
monks are weak? hehe, nice one. i dont know what edition u talking about, but monks in 3 and 3.5 are if any too strong. monk 10 lvl, with some monk prestige classes is a killing machine.
Well, any dragon. It took me 3 minutes for her. Mage1: Timestop; Mage2: Timestop; Mage1: Lowering Resistance x3, Timestop; Mage2: Lowering Resistance x2, Sickness, Timestop;
Mage1: Any high damage cast, same with Mage2. The rest is a walk in the park.
Try 2 do this battle with mods : Tactics, Ascension, Longer Road(after Watchers Keep and with killed Demogorgon) and do it with 1 char:P thats indeed funny :P

In fact, this (the real full battle that is) is probably one of the hardest boss battles in any game ever.
It's so hard it pretty much forces you to use cheese tactics. Or cheat, if you're willing to go that far.

The fight is difficult because the bitch practically cheats.
1. She doesn't cast magic to summon minions. She simply calls them and they are all powerful and immune to death spell. In less than a minute she can flood the map with demons/slayers/mariliths.
2. Everything she does either casting or punching doesn't take time
3. And the worst of all is she flees if her HP is low and comes back not only restored but also stronger.
4. You practically fight 7 battles, 4 with her without rest.

The key is to ration your spells and abilities and save after each fight. To me, it wasn't the bitch that bothered me, but the party of demons I had to go through to cut her off for the final time. You would think level 30 characters would be able to resist Charm.

Assassins have a good trick with traps, it weakens Amelissan by 80 or 90% + her demon friends die instantly.

Baldur's Gate (I & II) : the best games ever created - along with Planescape : Torment. I've always wondered who were the key individuals who made these games so good. Are they still around ? Bioware's stuff went downhill after they split with Black Isle Studios in my opinion. The Baldur's Gate games have the best writing of any computer games - ever (though I've never played the original Fallout games.) Imagination from the gods !

Yeah, Bioware went to shit after they split from Black Isle, nothing special about their games any more. NWN and KotOR were such huge letdowns.
The team from Black Isle reformed into Obsidian Studios, who made KotOR 2, but what they have in creativity they seem to lack in planning/management and the ability to handle publishers who want games out for deadlines. The result was KotOR 2 basically being released unfinished. :(
A Bioware/Obsidian partnership might bring the best of both worlds.

and btw, in Throne of Bhaal i find a kinda funny place, it was almost bug. When u first time go to Sendai's enclave - she will try to stop u, and that's the place where we can get a little profit. We need tonnels, where horde of duergars trying to kill us. What's the profit? They never end. U can reach levelcup just standing there and killind little dwarfs. But it's very boring, and it can't be done with a mage team.

Melissan can be beaten VERY easily w\o any cheats or smthn. I have a team - my char is cleric with CromFayer, Sarevok with 2-handed sword, Keldorn with Carsomir, Valygar with 2 catana\longsword. All 3 part of Melissan's fight - i had Imoen and Aerith, they must run away for deepest part of this stage - coz they can't do much damage in this fight. Nex Keldorn,Sarevok,Valygar(all three with the Boots of Speed) - using Greater Whirlwind - Melissan die in 10 second. Easy.

This game was fun the first time, once youre no longer a noob, it's so easy it's boring. tactical mods make it even more boring. since they get rid of all the overpowered spells, its basically debuff-smash-rest, over and over, with all your hits doing 2 damage max, and all your offensive spells doing zero damage.

Plus, you don't *need* to play the most powerful character with the most powerful team possible...

This wasn't even the full battle.
Without using the so-powerful-it's-almost-cheating mage/sorcerer trick of pausing instantly before her magic protection is up, using 3xLower Resistance, and then using 2-3x Abi Dhalsim's Horrid wilting, Amelissan is very nearly impossible to beat.
Indeed, probably one of the hardest boss battles ever. (unless you use the almost-cheating trick of course)

Well, any dragon. It took me 3 minutes for her. Mage1: Timestop; Mage2: Timestop; Mage1: Lowering Resistance x3, Timestop; Mage2: Lowering Resistance x2, Sickness, Timestop;
Mage1: Any high damage cast, same with Mage2. The rest is a walk in the park.

You said rpg's. Usually, people hate rpg's for only one reason and one reason only. They don't know how to play them. You must be one of those guys who only cares about GUI inside the game, and nothing else. But, let me tell you the truth. RPG's are really the best genre, because they are not boring like FPS or strategy games. They have the widest specter of options. Call me nerdy, but but as hard core drugs go, Blizzard's video games are completely useless

Very sceptical. First, this song does not suit BG2 at all. Then, it is nearly impossible to reach level 40 without cheating (which includes doing the game twice with the same character). Let me guess : your skills all reach 25?

It's not impossible because you have option to delete spells from your spell book
Second thing, listen to the words of the song and think of amelissan, and everything will be clear to you
If you play Shadows of Amn with Throne of Bhaal installed, you can easily have characters with reached Shadows of Amn cap within Athkatla, so the rest of the game is like going to Throne of Bhaal cap
But, to do all this, you must be a pro player which knows how to play real RPG's and who knows all the rules
