Anyone thinks the rotoscoping animation technique here is preciously similar to what James Cameron used in Avatar? i mean Cameron is a fan of Bakshi and wanted to make a modern similar technique on rotoscoping for his new movie.
Obviously NOT the original trailer for FIRE & ICE, which is a much more enjoyable film than the overwrought, fascist 300. RIP Frank Frazetta. Spartans, please go dine in hell.

I actually liked Fire and Ice better than the 300 movie. (Proud owner of the book, though.)
I have the F&I dvd, and always replay the scene where Darkwolf chops through the subhuman who jumps through the mist whenever I watch the movie. It's a classic!
Great editing, by the way. The audio and visuals certainly work well together.
Maybe somebody can help me too. I´m looking for an animated movie from the 80´s (NOT Heavy Metal!). All I remember is it involves a large portal that led to a different world or time. It was futuristic. I think it might´ve had a race of topless women/amazons though I may be thinking of something else (if you know what that could be too please tell me).
The only scifi movie from the 80s that I remember having topless women was René Laloux's Light Years, but I don't think it had anything to do with a portal.
KorparnasTid THAT´S IT!!!!! And it does have a portal -- the Door of Tme between the 1000 years. I was beginning to think I had only dreamed this movie. Rest assured you have done your part in saving the galaxy.
Maybe you can help me.. i was lookng for another cartoon from my childhood , and iwas under the impresion that the name was Fire and ice.(wich obviously isnt...
the cartoon im looking for is about a boy who works in some sort of mines as a slave when he finds a magic sword.. Or just the grip of the sword and is able to summon it whenever he wishes to... Dont know the tittle and thats what ive been tying to find.. thx in advance :)
Hey, no problem. I remember it was on some random cable station a few months ago. It was the first time I had seen it in years. It's good fun. Glad I could help out.
Those are awesome movies, adored them for years since i was 10 when i rented LY and bought a copy for me. I even saw Starchaser when i was 4 in theaters and grew up with F&I when i watched it with my big brother at age 5 on video and bought a copy when i was 12 on video. If you like this one see Princess Mononoke which is another awesome adult animated fantasy epic, seen that one?
No. The animators who created the film, "Fire & Ice" rotoscoped.
(For anybody reading this, rotoscoping is where film-makers shoot live action with real actors and then trace each frame to make the finished cartoon.)
Frazetta didn't use models and certainly did NOT rotoscope for his paintings; Frazetta created his figures from his imagination.
Oh, sorry, no, I didn't mean to imply that Frazetta traced or anything like that. D: I guess I was just expressing my disappointment at the fact that he allowed it in such glaring and liberal quantities in this movie. But I don't even really know how involved in the movie he was.
I think there's not only a animated movie called Fire I think there's a song called: Fire and Ice By: Wilson Pickett. I never saw The Sparta 300 or Fire and Ice movies. Pretty good video yet why is there dialouge from the Sparta 300 movie?
It was directed by Ralph Bakshi, produced by Frank Frazetta and Ralph Bakshi and written by Ralph Bakshi, Gerry Conway, Roy Thomas and Frank Frazetta.
Anyone else waiting for 300 to use the NIN song from the trailer the whole time they were watching it? I was waiting til the very end, hoping they would bust out that song and it would just go crazy. But alas, no.
Remember "Sandstorm, sandstorm ... SANDSTORM!" from MST3K? The great Sergio Leone got his start as second unit director of various films like these. Watch for really jarringly great shots were the lead charachters are uninvolved, that's usually Leone.
That was extremely well done. I got goosebumps from the epic-ness.

There's a new Danish animated feature coming called 'Ronal the Barbarian' which
is obviously a parody of sword & scorcery.

They weren't animated, but they were sword and sandal "epics". In Italy they're called "peplum" films.
