  • I literally cringe when people say "X" instead of "10" in OS X. It looks like "X", but its roman numeral. So there for its "10".

Honestly though, I thought about buying a Touchsmart to hackintosh. It would be cool to have the multi-touch. If only someone can get it working...

  • @awesomecolton I call it OS X as well. I know what it means.. but OS 10 sounds lame.

  • you can use lizard to configure the resolution ;D , i'm using a HP touchsmat iq501 with dual boot , and mac is running without any bug or hardware problem

sorry for my bad english =)

  • I have one computer like that one I´m using it right now:D

  • Can I do this with a HP TouchSmart 300-1025?

  • send me a friend request and i can get you the drivers you need

  • How do you do that??

  • u could write the command that you put in as a boot flag.

  • i have iDeneb but the ethernet doesnt work

  • What version of iDeneb is he running? I have the same Touchsmart but I can't get OSx86 with iPC and iATKOS v5. I really don't know what kexts to use.

  • the x stands for ten u dipshit

  • question i had a probably common idea cant u just run parallel and windows update or something like that.

  • well, i would like to inform you that the reason most of the HP stuff is compatible, is because stuff in macbooks and imac's is made by HP, Panasonic, and apple themselfs. So most is compatible, but also, HP and apple have been working together for some time, and they were hoping to make osx compatible with hp computers, though it probably wont happen, think about how cool it would be!, osx on the touchsmart, duel boot (or VM) with windows, and it will be the most ultimate computer ever.

  • your an idiot

  • @DylanWeigle how am i an idiot? if anything your the idiot for just commenting randomly

  • apple is not doing anything with any other company. they try to do everything by themselves. if you are saying the hardware is compatible then in a way they are.

  • whats the name of the comand he used to boot off the dvd

  • rd=disk0s2

  • i'd like to see video playback on the touchsmart to see the picture quality hijinksincdotcom

  • Would this work with the Touchsmart IQ504

  • u can get for this money an iMac :X

  • Also to hijinks if you are still doing this (I know it was posted last year) you might want to try ink in system prefs to calibrate.

  • Actualy anyone who knew of os 9 probably figured it was pronounced os 10

  • Nice!

  • Would a Touchsmart IQ770 work with OS X86?

  • same here!>.

ive been trying but it never boots

  • if you send (hex) 43 02 21 01 or possibly 00 43 02 21 01 to the touch screen 64 byte hid channel. It will go into calibration mode! as described on the NextWindow website.

  • Newsflash, its pronounced OS TEN not OS X.

  • Who cares

  • Me :-)

  • ok alex.. which roman numeral is the number 10?

    X!

  • you just restated what i said...

  • Comment removed

  • its not his fault man, you can't say when u saw "OS X" you thought it was OS 10, man, none of us did so you can just be shut up.

  • Everyone here is wrong. The most superior operating system is GNU Linux, hands down. Take it from a guy with the paperwork to back up what he is saying. Unfortunately the world isn't perfect, and the majority of creative software is geared towards Apple computers. And we all know that PCs own the gaming industry. This is what I would do with this machine. Personally, I would push this machine beyond it's hardware limits and run all three operating systems on it. All have their perks.

  • paperwork? Linux is still based off of Unix which has over 30YEARS of stability! Linux at its core is built off that framework so GNU Linux cannot compare in that time of stability/reliability/rubostness. Does Linux support touch interface???

  • It can... remember Linux is open source...

  • Moded.

  • To the video host - have you attempted using Windows 7 build 6956 yet? I'm very interested in seeing Win7's touchscreen abilities!

  • why use that when build 7000 is out? btw, im using windows 7 right now, lolz.

  • Look at the date when the video was posted (November 3, 2008), at that time Win7 build 6956 wasn't even out yet and Win7 was pretty unstable prior to that build. If you got an IQ Touchsmart I'd LOVE to see a decent video of it running Win7 :D

  • um, no, i dont have a touch screen, i built this computer myself...

  • First off, whats the point? I think its funny that PC fanboys do everything they can to get their hands on OS X yet they refuse to buy a Mac.

Second thing, touch screen in a novelty. Pretty much useless on the everyday home computer.

Third thing, It is pronounced OS 10 not X.

Get a clue and get that wannabe Vista POS out of here.

  • Ok so your saying I should go out and buy a 3000 dollar overpriced computer for a worthless operating system that like 2 percent of the population use... as far as wanting a Mac, I'm happy with PC, and have no intentions of paying 3 grand to switch...

  • your wrong. apple's stocks have grown 2500% in the past 5 years. over half of small businesses are switching to mac. the only problem is apple might not be able to produce enough macs fast enough

  • Yeah, pretty much the only reason PC's are so cheap anyway is because so many companies make them, and they're all competing really. Macs are expensive because Apple and only Apple make them. Really I would still prefer a Mac, with Windows XP and Ubuntu 8.04 along with OSX.

  • Actually, Apple get's most of it's parts from 3rd parties, ATI, Intel, etc., the only thing Apple is responsible for is the computer case itself, and the OS, maybe some of the hardware inside it, but everything else is made by a 3rd party company, just like any other PC company, Dell only makes certain aspects of their computers.

When you spend all that money, you are paying for the brand name, it's the same with clothes, my dad worked in a clothes factory, it's all the same, except brand name.

  • But Apples OS is built around specifically THAT hardware. So they can make sure it works.

  • True, but the hardware still isn't all theirs, and Windows is the same way when you order an OEM computer, you get a copy of Windows that has all that computer drivers on it, etc. that will only work for that computer.

  • That's what makes it crappy.

  • Windows isn't crappy, it's far better, than OS X, and I have used both.

Most people who buy an OEM computer will only need the disc that comes with it, the only time people buy retail copies is if you are custom building a machine or want to upgrade, and b/c you can buy a retail copy that will work on all machines.

OEM doesn't mean Original Equipment Manufacturer for nothing, if you get an OEM copy of Windows, it's custom made for the machine you purchased with it.

  • If you like Windows better, then that's understandable I mean there's a lot of dissadvantages with using Mac. But OSX has always been and will always be more stable, simply because of the single line of hardware all Macs are based on. You might think that the hardware like that is good or bad. I think it's good really.

  • Not really, I could install Windows on a Mac and it would still do everything I need it to do, it's the OS in my case that determines what I can and can't do, as most Mac's have modern hardware, mainly the switch to Intel, they can do everything if they have Windows installed on them, maybe not as good in certain area's.

I have never had instability with Windows, if it's installed on a computer that can run the version of Windows, I was running Vista on a Pentium 4 w/ 1GB RAM, just fine.

  • I don't dislike Mac's as much as I dislike the OS, which is not the same as hating it.

I dislike the OS, because it lacks some of the stuff I need, such as wider software support, and hardware support.

Now, Mac's to a degree, I dislike, such as hardware upgrade options, I can't just go to any computer store and get upgrade parts, like I can with other PC's.

  • Yeah but in the end it's about equal. 'Cause with PC's you gotta get the right stuff, and even if you can get the right stuff you often gotta change other things too like power supply, or mother board. In the Mac it's ready to be upgraded to its full capacity. I mean you shouldn't have any problems in The States, here in Oz, Mac's are less popular and there's less places for servicing and parts but it's still adequate. We've only got one proper Apple store...

  • Well, with me I don't consider Mac's anything other than a PC, no matter what anyone says, I will say a Mac is a PC, right to Steve Jobs face.

Well, usually OEM computers don't need upgrading after you purchase them, and aren't meant to be upgraded, some may offer upgrades, but most people order their computer the way they need them, and it will last a good amount of time.

Also, Mac's aren't indestructible either, if a component goes bad you still need to get it replaced.

  • Yeah but they're a lot better than PC's. You might not believe me on this, but over the past couple of weeks, all of my family's computers have had to be repaired, except one, which is broken but functions so it's going in when we get the others back. That's two Compaq laptops, one HP laptop, and two Dell desktops, and the still functioning one is a HP. It's cost my parents like one grand in servicing, and another two grand for work laptops we need in the meantime.

  • At my school, they switched over to iMac's my last year of high school, which was this past school year, class of 09, lol. In almost every classroom, they had at least 1 iMac that was down, people couldn't get logged into the network, and if you got one of the remaining Dells, voila, you were back in business, the school is deciding whether to go back to Windows PC's,

I have never had a malfunctioning device, unless it was old or DOA, which has happened a lot with these new 27" iMac's.

  • Of course, Compaq and HP, not my computers of choice, heck I would get an Apple computer before those. I prefer Dell, but most of all I prefer custom over any OEM computer.

  • Me and my friend's have had problems with Dells. Especially with their warranties, they fucked up my friend's warranty, and they won't allow any of the technicians in my town to operate with Dell warranties, and they put referbished motherboards in my friend's Dell desktop, two times I'm not joking. It's just sitting around in his house untouched 'cause it's not worth the trouble.

  • Well, I have never had problems with Dell's nor have I needed to replace anything, in fact my school also go new Dell XPS for the new library they built, hadn't had to replace a single one.

  • You're lucky! My Dell desktop has cost more than it's origional cost in servicing.

  • Well, I prefer custom, which tends to last longer than any OEM computer company.

The only thing I had to replace and not do to faulty hardware was upgrading my PSU so I could get higher power need's stuff, and now, I have a Q6600 and I am set, just waiting on my friend to send me a new video card, that is a previous series to my current card, but is a higher end card, I have a 9400GT now which only has 16 stream processors, and he is sending a 8800GT, which has over 100 stream processors.

  • Well it seems like I have this aura that causes computers to malfunction, so I'm not gonna do anything myself, I could get one of those online companies to do it for me, my friend did that, but I think with the way things are going at the moment I won't be getting more computers any time soon, custom or not.

  • @Freshbott2 lol, well, if you get what your computer supports then you should be fine.

  • @CJCA915 why would you dislike HP/Compaq/Voodoo? dell is cheap crap, and ruined windows xp for many people.

  • lol, the hardware is the same, the only difference is the look of the computer, also, I have heard and seen the exact same for HP, a friends work has new HP's running Windows XP, and they are slow, and they are running XP in the classic theme, I have seen them, now, I didn't say Compaq, of course now they are merged with HP, so I don't know, I have a Compaq monitor that predates their merging and it's nice. Never heard about Voodoo, except for a series of video cards.

  • @CJCA915 that is why HP stopped supporting bios for windows xp like 3 years ago. We technically cant blame the computer if it is slow, because it isn't running on any bios, just bare windows. But technically speaking the computer was built for vista or 7 not xp... compaq has been with hp for like 12 years now. and their hardware coheres perfectly. and voodoo is HP's gaming/luxury computers... they were the company that made HP a great gaming computer. technically they are part of hp's videocards

  • Well, maybe in those cases, but every person I talk to, that have had HP's hate them.

Dell has never let me down, after Dell it's Gateway, had one for many years, never let me down, until late 2006 early 2007, I got my first custom build, now I have another custom build, and couldn't be happier.

Don't all computers have a BIOS, except for Apple's?

Also, the merge was in 2002.

I prefer Nvidia when it comes to video cards, and Intel when it comes to CPU's.

  • Also, at the time of the purchase of their HP's Windows 7 wasn't out, and Vista, well we all know it's reputation, although it ran fine for me, despite running on Pentium 4.

  • @CJCA915 hmm... Did they contact HP customer service? they usually give like a 1 year complimentary warrantee. and even if, you can still talk to tech support for free. um... well i guess computers go by generation.. I mean dell ruled XP acer ruled xp MCE hp was vista, so on.. vista really didn't have a reputation, in fact it really ran quite beautiful for 95% of its users... people just hear its bad from one another and blah.. But you got it to run on pentium 4 O_O it didn't catch fire did it?

  • No, it wasn't a customer service problem, they just hated the computers.

I guess, but I have never been let down, when using a Dell computer.

It ran fine for me, now I have Windows 7, which also ran on a Pentium 4 for a while, now I have a Quad Core.

Yes, and it ran excellently, in some cases better than XP, and no, it never caught fire, lol.

  • I know people who have four Macs, and someone else who has two, and the only problem out of all of them, was the GPU in an iMac which fell off a desk... so that's not really that relevant. None of them other thanthat have ever been into servicing.

  • Well, the iMac's all worked at first, and none of them were dropped on the floor, they just stopped, they would lock up, they ran Windows in parallels, so crappy, and I ran Windows in parallels on my Windows machine with the same resources devoted to it, as the iMac's at school, and my system had less specs than even the iMac's in general, and I got a better boot with a Pentium 4, Vista host, than those iMac's.

  • >Apple is all about simplicity,

So are you, I see. Simple, I mean.

    > You pc folks love fucking around like that.

"Thinking about things", you mean? Figuring things out, you mean? Yes.

Then some other people wear "consumer" as a badge of honour. "Fanboy" too.

BTW, I own both a pc and a mac. Both are just tools, not religions. the best tool should be your brain. Try to use it before operating a keyboard in public.

    >stupid as hell.

    You said it.

  • U HAVE OS X TRY VISTA IT IS BETTER n000b -.-

  • It comes with Vista. He was running Mac OSX off of a live CD.

  • stupid as hell. The only folks wanting to put osx on a non apple system are geeks. Then you have to wait for the dev community to work on fixes and work arounds. Meh! Apple is all about simplicity, so this bullshit up there is pc turmoil. You pc folks love fucking around like that.

  • My god. Do you realize just 4-5yrs ago OS X was delivered without cpu ROM on an Intel production Mobo in the Power Mac for developers?!Why stay limited. Apple does NOT make a touchscreen computer - many artists wanted this from Apple for YEARS but they haven't delivered; ModBook did under specific partner-license awarded by Apple. But thats it. Users always want choice, Apple has yet to fully delivered on THIS kind of choice. Don't knock a guy for trying.

  • that was cool, I've been wondering if leopard would work on it

  • Since I was using the bootloader off the DVD I had to tell it which disk to boot off of, so I typed "rd=disk0s2".

  • what was the command you just typed before it loaded?

  • If you want i bet i can get the audio and graphics working, and most likely the TV tuner. Also something that annoyed me in your video, its pronounced OS 10 not OS X, so yeah, PM me and ill try and get that all sorted, all except for the touch screen, which i could still have a crack at.

  • As I mentioned in the video, TV Tuner doesn't work under OS X. I highly doubt I'll be able to find drivers for it, but I will look around.

  • TV Tuner?
