This film's narration has such a wise-ass irreverant tone to it. As such, it's a real insight into the dry Russian sense of humor. And so much humor for such a serious topic.
Of course, the Soviet Union was responsible for defeating Germany; the battle of Stalingrad was decisive resulting in a significant weakening of Germany's military capability, facts which the west does not teach in its schools, at least at lower educational levels.

Americans have the idea that they "won the war" (WW2). In reality, the Soviet Union was a far more decisive factor in the victory over fascism. In fact, after the war, the US helped put fascists back in charge of countries such as Italy, France and Greece.
