Meier was a magician. This has been the greatest strategy I have ever played. But I am very unhappy with new strategies of today on the other hand. He said one great truth in the interview - something like: "This is a game I wanted to create for years. I like history of Civil War since childhood..." Yeah, this is it: when you make it with love, you will create great strategy. New strategies are not for history fans, fans of strategy - its based only for action and graphic: made for dummies:(
This game is great Civil War fantasy fulfillment. I would love to see Firaxis update the game (improved graphics, tactics etc) and make a campaign for all the key battles of the Civil War.
Oh hell yeah... Sid Meier should get with Relic... use a heavily modified version of the CoH engine but keep the same gameplay dynamics from SMG. Oh that'd be so awesome.
the copy ive owned for years, worked on my windows 98, dident work on my xp, but now works on vista, only problem is there is no sound at all for my gettysburg
Download the update on the firaxis website for XP (even though you are using Vista) Run and install. Restart. Then, try the game again. You should have sound.
I hope that sometime soon Sid Meier will be able to give us Gettysburg and Antietam/South Mountain for Windows XP/Vista/Windows 7. I really miss these games!
there's been a fix for this for years, has to do with a fixed setup file and then you run the game in compatibility mode or something. I can play SMG on my vista 64
I've tried using the patch that's been available, but it doesn't seem to help the game on my XP-equipped computer for some reason. I think there's also a way to fix it in the program files, but I'm not sure how.
do you have trouble installing the game? or it just wont play correctly? I remember there was a trick to get it to install from the disc to an xp machine. after that seems like the xp/2000 update patch did the job (I think the V3 update is also required for online play).
I grew up with this game.

Than why have none of his games been rated lower than 9.0, collectively?
Your just one of those douche bags that started gaming this gen with COD 4, and thinks they know everything...

I think it'd be amazing to make a 3d civil war game.

The game installs fine, but won't play correctly. It ran beautifully on Windows 98 second edition, but is virtually unplayable on XP.
