  • The eyes are a dead giveaway, the brows movements are too smooth and flowing, they're not quick and jerky like normal eyebrows. Also, the eyes don't really look like "spheres" they look more like flat paintings on a mask.

  • *Star Wars TOR ad comes on* "This isn't that realist.....oh wait a second"

  • Its still the mouth, and the eyes.. always the dead eyes..

  • wait.... so... that wasnt a real human... my pc would punch me in the face if I tried to run that

  • I don't get it what animation... OH HOLY SHIT SHES NOT HUMAN OH MY GOD ITS SIM0NE 2.0!!!

  • id hit it

  • why isnt this used for l.a noire?

  • damn technology, you scary.

  • I don't think the mouth-weirdness was the software's fault, at least not entirely; she seems to press her lips into a slant just fine on her own.

  • You're getting close... but I'm not sure; the uncanny valley is a long and dangerous trip.

  • C'mon, guys. If you saw this under different circumstances, most of you'd probably buy it. Besides, slanted mouth or no, can you imagine how awesome a video game with graphics like these would be?

  • Smoke enoff pot and you can alter the video in ur head :)

  • I noticed the mouth straight away. Needs some attention. Brilliant otherwise.

  • 0:39

    mouth. water you doing

  • I'd fuck it.

  • BURN IT! FUCKING BURN IT WITH FIRE!!!

  • But will it blend?

  • Something would probably seem "not quite right" if you didn't know ahead of time... but I'd give them more props if they rendered the whole actress. It's just a face demo pasted on to the original footage so everything else that would more readily give it away is still real footage.

  • I think that this uncanny valley crap is bullshit...

  • The mouth! D8 She looks like she's having a series of monumental strokes D8

  • I figured out what this was about and I was waiting for the real face of the person to be vastly different from the virtual. Talk about anticlimax.

  • So… you’re doing exclusively horror films then, right?

  • Imagine this technology is improving to create more realistic animation, but imagine if video-games in 30 years will look just like real life they could inflict real life (super-)traumas and I'm not just talking about war-games. It gets worse when you realise than the same technology can be used to fake crime-scene images shot with a security camera, you could go to jail for the rest of your life because they've faked security images against your case.

  • @QuangNokonoko Haha. Copied from tvtropes.

  • good but face is way too 'flat'

  • imagine how this could revolutionize video games. i think it's simply brilliant.

  • Great job, I'd say this is just past the uncanny valley, but not all the way out.

Still looks like a human with something slightly off about her, but like something that is plausible and isn't off-putting.

Not much further to go. :D

  • her face looks soft

  • 0:13, just before the fadeout, dig the creepy way her mouth "resets"

  • i'm having real trouble with her mouth smudging out, getting oversized when she stops talking in the two first rounds...

  • is this a good thing? other than making videogames be bad ass~

  • Nice! wonder if they used this on tintin?

  • Her face seems to warp slightly when she turns her head.

  • It's the best of the best, it's amazing.

  • I thought her mouth was just a little big, otherwise perfect. :)

  • Hmmm. Uh, for one, her mouth is a little slanted, but also it isn't moving enough. Animators, squash and stretch. Open the jaw a little more. Still not perfect.

  • Forget the animation; what about the rendering?

  • the fuck is with her mouth

  • omg

  • I've watched it twice, both times knowing she's CGI... and she still looks real to me. The best I can come up with is that her mouth is slightly slanted. This is... creepy.

  • Hold on, is EVERYTHING we're seeing here cgi or just her face?

  • @billywizzisbest Just the face. It's a motion-captured (and further rendered) face put on top of the woman's original performance.

  • you guys can say what you want but i think its fukin awesome as hell!!! hellz yeahz its about damned time someone starts making some real cgi. now just make a virtual world we can plug into using cgi such as this to the 9th level of epicness and we will be in simulated heaven.

  • The first time I watched it, I had no idea. But on subsequent viewings, I think something about her lower teeth/lip bothers me the most. Just doesn't... quite... look human.

  • terrifying...

  • She looks very cgi xD

  • omfg... didnt know SHE was the demo... i was waiting for her to show a demo or something lol. holy fucking shit

  • her skin is too perfect, in there's not enough definition in the details. Her eyes and lips look flat.

  • looks like anne hathaway

  • uncanny valley

  • Her mouth doesn't quite move right. It stretches when it shouldn't.

  • @blackmagebob I agree. And at most times the mouth is crooked. Like it's sideways or tilted down too much to where a normal human's mouth should be.

  • No. Just no. No. No. No. No. That's all I can really say.

  • I was thinking "why does she creep me out? She looks fake."

Till I read the rest of the video description..

  • Objectively speaking there's still something "off" about the CGI Emily that I can't really articulate, but is clearly perceptible. That being said it's already a big step up from early attempts like the infamous Polar Express zombiefest, and this video was made over 3 years ago so they've surely made even more progress since then. I'd say we'll fully cross uncanny valley within 15 years.

  • The eyes need to be more loose they're to solid and starry and the eyelids overlap to much, that's what gave it away for me.

  • It's only just the eyes and the skin that you can tell she isn't all real. But effing amazing job though!

  • Need holographic display badly.

  • This video creeps me out >.<

  • Where is the porn of her? looks like Jassie James actually

  • Where is the porn of her?

  • thumbs if you saw this on Cracked.com

  • Comment removed

  • There's something weird about her eyes. And of course she's too perfect in some ways.

  • ;-; it's not right

the difference is striking when they show the real Emily at the end!

  • I was actually doubting myself that it's not CG until 1:16 XD

  • Yo pretty ladies around the world...

  • They did a pretty good job, but it's still pretty deep into the Uncanny Valley. There's just something...off about it. It doesn't move or look like a human...

  • its a real person but with a few teaks to look smoother.

  • non ci credo che non è reale... spettacolare......

  • Hey, look, it's the face model for all the women in LA Noire!

  • The last lense is a real person they based it offf.

  • I could kinda see something "off" about it, but only because I knew what I was looking for.

  • Oh wait, actually the actress looks like she's had some plastic surgery or botox or something which contributes to the uncanny valley feel quite a bit. Choose a real looking person next time :)

  • @smile221 Its not a real person

  • The mouth is too wide, and the eyeballs don't move how they should in response to the head...Difficult to describe, but her eyes would stay pointing in the same place (by rolling) when her head moves

  • The mouth is a bit off, but I can forgive that. But her face doesn't seem to move in comparison to her mouth. And her eyes are lifeless. It would have fooled me, except it's just so creepy to see that an expression mimicked, but not there.

  • Pause at 0:40.

Have fun crying yourself to sleep tonight.

  • you know, the face is not everything. i think what needs to be improved is the whole body movement, or at least the upper body in this case. i would like to see animated emily as a whole model.

  • Why?

  • Creepy is good if your nice and handsome ... like i am lol

  • This is extremely convincing...bravo!

  • Still looks creepy.

  • So.....can you have sex with it?

  • This is so far into the uncanny valley it's making me feel uncomfortable :(

  • Cracked just blew my fucking mind.

  • Not real-looking enough to creep me out.

  • "Peace out uncanny valley"

...This is one of the most uncanny valley animations I've ever seen. She creeps me out. The mouth seems to shift on the face. Both the mouth and the eyes seem transposed. The shading around the eyes especially makes them look like that, like they're a bit fuzzy and not from the same source. Sorry, not buying it. :/

  • Show me your virtual tits.

  • This looks really cool... but why can they never ever get the mouth right? The teeth are so close together, you can't always see teeth when people talk and most people try to cover their bottom teeth automatically. Most people's lips don't have the huge corners unless you're imagining the latin girls i went to high school with that drew a line around their mouth before putting on lipstick (like some stupid create your own mouth coloring book).

  • i like the lip inflation when she closes her mouth. even better is the slightly off-set face and the way her jaw doesn't line up with the rest of her head. but other than that...pretty decent...but not pretty.

  • @bbaggy oh fuck off my youtube you fucken reddit cunt

  • @MegaEpictroll Learn to spell youtube cunt.

  • @1996Eoin eat shit faggot

  • @MegaEpictroll Make me, by the way U mad?

  • @1996Eoin go back to reddit you little gay cunt, someone just posted a picture of a cat

  • @MegaEpictroll y U so mad bro!?

  • @MegaEpictroll cool. what's reddit?

  • This is really impressive. But she looks like she used to much powder. Something with the colors is wrong.

  • DERP

  • As soon as you release it, this will be used for porn.

  • very well done, though the teeth always have and always will be bad rendered..

  • Emily is pretty hot.

  • still looks fake

  • All in the eyes. Once you master getting the eyes right the rest falls into place, because when the eyes look good, the viewer wants to believe it is real.

  • it's better now, the vids 3 years old

  • dangerously close to the uncanny valley

  • The shading on her face is just terrible.

  • Real Eyes Realize Real Lies

  • @KlumzyThePunk great scott!

  • Reddit > Cracked. Just saying.

  • Wait, so... she's not real? O_O

  • Yeah, you sheep keeping going "uncanny valley", but you clearly don't know what is. This isn't "uncanny valley". Like, AT ALL. Look up the term before you throw it around like a retard.

I wouldn't be surprised if none of this was CG and it was all an "Emperor's New Clothes" sorta test to see if people will believe obvious bullshit just because you told them it was true.

  • @tabrismacbeth Uh, it definitely is uncanny valley. She just looks intrinsically wrong, you know? By the end of the video, my heart was beating like crazy. It just looks so unnatural. The first time I watched it without knowing she was CG, I had that same reaction of something being wrong. Don't you see how far off from real it looks?

  • wayyyy too uncanny valley 0_0

  • I'm with "cracked" with this one.

  • @death2utubenow Seconded.

  • o.O Real Emily looks cute. :P

  • I have to agree with Cracked on the fact that there's *probably* easier ways to record human movements. Like, um... recording human movements. With a camera.

  • this is the most realistic cgi i ever seen.

first time i thought it was a real person

  • It's true you can kinda tell it's cgi. Just looks odd at points. Not bad by any means though!

  • @FellDarkpaw how could u tell?

  • CRACKED

  • I'd hit it.

  • Uncanny Valley!

  • So realistic. The only thing I noticed what actually different was the lighting on the face. Until the actual actress, the lighting made her look...fuzzy.

  • K. something different now. THUMBS UP FOR BOOBIES!

  • Lookin' more real than your average botox-pumped, heavily makeup'd celebrity ;D. Seriously. I'd rather watch this than Megan Fox. Great job.

  • I mean, you can still tell it isn't perfect. But this is pretty terrifyingly close.

  • Her eyes...it's like a corpse...

  • Weird. I think it looks almost completely real but a little creepy. But if I hadn't known what I was watching I probably wouldn't have figured it out.

  • @LikeSoTotallyRandom Her mouth is so fucked it's not even funny. It floats on her face and stretches in wrong ways constantly; the eyes are floating too; but they don't do any of the weird jerks that make no sense.

If I was on LSD I'd be trying to rip my skin of screaming something about Satan right now probably.

THAT SAID, aside from that one egregious, drug user slaying flaw, it's pretty fucking well done. Cheers.

  • her mouth is all angled and horrible

  • Freeze 58 seconds in for the creepy reality shattering smile. They did a good job but the smile immediately tells you that something has gone terrible wrong

  • This is fucking scary...

  • LEGEND!!

  • So... you hire an actor and film his or her performance... and then you cover it all up with CGI... to look exactly like the actor but not quite...?

I watched Beowulf in theatres and all I could think throughout the entire movie was "why didn't they just film this for real?"

  • @zammmerjammer did you see the guy that played beowulf, he's like 60

  • @Unclesamslair So? Use CGI to make Grendl scary-looking, not to compensate for an inappropriate casting choice.

  • That's creepy.

  • It's just her face that's CGI'd right ? Cuz if it's the whole body that would be fucking creepy

  • either she has a horrid makeup artist, or her skin isnt the same color as her face.

  • I actually had to watch this several times to convince myself that she WASN'T real. Amazing.

  • Crakced , also this is exactly what Braniac did to fake the presence of Lex Luthor in his company when he kidnapped him. Guys we're heading into some comic book level science fiction here.

  • Lol, look at 1:13. A real eyes don't do that.

  • @JohnyFront

    They actually do.

  • @shakespearespqr well if you're with unjured/ stretched eye muscles, yes :D

  • Her eyes are hinky too. They give me the wiggins actually. Try pausing it at 0:14 ..who's mouth moves like that? lol

  • Mouth looks fake but everything else is impressive. :)

  • I'd get in her uncanny valley

  • 0:13 Real lips don't do that.

  • As soon as I saw her I could tell something was wrong with her mouth. Compared to a real human without CGI, it's like her lips lack mass. It looks mostly realistic still, but in motion it stands out. They are improving. In the future you may not even be able to trust video surveillance.

  • This is odd...

Normally the uncanny valley should make this unnerving to an average person, but I didn't even know she was computerized at first, and didn't repulse me at all.

  • Comment removed

  • The mouth looks WAY off

  • @bmhyakiri Also the face's skin-tone, and the eye-width, and the nose's super-symmetric shape; the nose-mouth ratio is also off, plus the overall blurriness when compared the rest of her body...

  • who cares if we're from cracked, what does it make your erection last that extra minute?

  • hmm. i think it's mostly the lighting, coloring, and texture on the face that gives it away, they look a little off. but the shapes and movements are perfect.

  • The only thing the I found a little weird were the eyes. I don't really know how to explain it, but they just seemed off for some reason.

Other than that, if I hadn't known this was a tech demo from the start I honestly would have thought she was real.

  • Dude, I can actually see that she's cgi. Her facial movement is too smooth and rubbery.

  • @jjjkuk2 You clearly don't understand the process. Her CGI facial movement is exactly the same as her real facial movement, that's because her CGI facial movement was captured from her real movement. Had you watched the entire video you'd see where they overlaid the wireframe over her face and it's an exact match. Unbelievable the things people think they see. Somebody else says he can tell it's CGI because her mouth is crooked, failing to realize her real mouth is crooked.

  • Comment removed

  • Her mouth movement isn't sharp enough; they look like jello - like she singing a really slow ballad.

  • Her mouth is kind of crooked.

  • @Laur0sie The real Emily's mouth is like that, they just copied to make it perfect!

  • what. i thought she was real

  • SHOES

    FOR

    SEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNN

  • yeah but what system slash computer can run this that well? it has some practical applications, but it wont look this good in a game. but this would be awesome with frostbite 2

  • YES! Another step closer to being able to masturbate to video games!

  • A video game with this kind of technology would be soooo sick!

  • @braxinIV look up LA NOIRE, been out for a while now...

  • @smalleyfan I know about it. But I mean, that game has it's hiccups. And I just feel like this is better.

  • 1:25 i have a frigging heart attack

  • The eyes gave it away. They looked out of place and strange. Very grainy and pixelated.....

  • 3 years or so ago this was cutting edge. I have not seen it in years, and I cannot believe that it is already starting to show it's age. I think they surpassed this on Tron: Legacy, but even Tron: Legacy is not perfect.

  • @daydarkbutterfly

heavy rain looks kinda like this in some scenes but in LA Noire the facial expressions are almost perfect except for graphics but within 2 or 3 years its perfect.

  • Most of her body looks human, but her face just doesn't line up quite right. It's close, but the human eye can pick out the "wrongness" of her expressions.

  • She looks more disturbing than any motion capture cartoon I have ever seen.
