Health Care Reform: Setting Doctors Free (part 1 of 2)

I have just heard the news that Dr. John David Lewis has died from an extended battle with cancer. I wish there were a good secular alternative for the "Rest In Peace" platitude; I salute his work and admire his dedication to his ideals.

When you see in the UK (or anywhere else in Europe) people lining up by the dozens outside a barn to be treated by a veterinarian because they can't afford a real doctor, as I saw in the US, please let me know.

Oh, and another thing... no one is preventing those people in NHS waiting lists to pay for private surgery. The real difference is that in a private system (like the US) they would not have that choice.

Many people think of a hero as a leader of a group, or a fireman rushing into a burning building, or an army private saving foreign children from oppression. I don't have that kind of hero. Instead, I have John David Lewis. Thank you, Mr. Lewis, for your fight for the individual's mind and life.

When a good or service is claimed by right by the masses, and the providers are already being demonized as being "greedy" and "making too much money," it is pretty clear where the situation is headed.
