  • 1966 HAMMY

COULD YOU TELL ME WHAT IS THE NAME OF MUSIC IN THIS FILM PS THANK YOU

  • @Elberiver11 the "British murder of 600,000 women men and children" doesn't quite equate to the 6.5million Jews, 2.5million Poles, 13.7million Soviets, 275,000 Disabled people, 200,000 Freemasons, 2,000 Jehovahs Witnesses, 5,600 Catholic Clergy, all to name just a few groups who were murdered by the hands of the Nazi Regime... Just saying... no murder is justified... However its clear to me that the Nazi's killed more people than the British. And I think you will find that Germany Started it...

  • The strength that the Brits displayed during this conflict was incredible. It takes a lot to get up the next day and carry on with life as before despite the nightly barrages of destruction.

  • Imagine the equivalent of 911 every night for over 5 weeks.

  • Interestingly, it was during World War II that the American voice and speech pattern became prominent in broadcasting.

  • God Bless Great Britain!

  • This is why videos like this shouldn't allow commenting as a bunch of trolls with the mentality of a 12yr old and a Discovery channel education come and start biching.

  • @benitofinito HERO

  • y yu guys complaining? these guys saved your sorry ass. If it wasnt for them half the people reading this wouldnt even be alive. *sighs*

  • why is one of the related videos, kesha take it off, this pains me..

  • ps it was Tottenham court road !!!! LOL

  • dear old London , they suffered so much during the war !!!! my mum was 4 1/2 in the uk when the war started , my grandmother went down to see if she could take in a evacuee , but because they had a small child already they did not let her take a child in , my mum lived in Northampton , my mums sister did take in a couple from London , mr and mrs foster , they called them the lord and lord mayoress of Topham court road , they talked posh but brought bed bugs with them , my aunt went mad LOL ,

  • We need another good war

  • this shows the true spirit of england no matter what other people think.

  • very scary

  • im glad i found this need to write about it for media!

  • P R O P A G A N D A

  • @suutari13

Of course it is we were at war you dope.

  • Funny thing is Germans made the same kind of news reels waaaay before this one on the British bombing Berlin at night. If your english or American then ofcoarse if you dont speak or understand German you would be more sensetive to this video...everyone used propaganda. Whatever, its Churchills fault!! Drunk Bastard.

  • Thanks for uploading this to YouTube! There was a brief mention of this in the Channel 4 (U.K.) series, "Blitz Street", I wanted to see the whole thing, and here it is!

  • Elberiver11 is quite funny. He is a troll dont feed him dont argue he uses his half history and selective quoteing to make a wrong statement seem true. Food for though Dresden dead 25-30k not 200k. Poland was a line in the sand after appeasment failed not an excuse for war. The first civilian bombing was done by germans. And you complain about our firestorms. I think your upset we were just abit better than you at it. Didnt ur best mate Göring say no allied bombers would fly over germany?

  • @Elberiver11 Good. If only we'd had more bombers we could have done more. Get over it. You can try to deny the Holcaust and re-write history all you like (although that's a crime in Germany of course). You lost the war. Tough titty. As for Poland and the events of 1919 - that was of course the result of ANOTHER lost war by the "Fatherland" (Ha! Ha!) So learn your own history moron. Anyway - who gives a toss after 65 years?

  • @Elberiver11 lol you are a dumbass Hitler killed innocent people over nothing he was a coward who took his own life yeah some leader Hitler was he was a pussy end of and go read a history book on WW2 you dumbass

  • @Popo111603 i'm english and elberiver11 is right. germans offered peace on agreeable peace terms to the british, the germans were still no threat to the british empire...and it's not history books you should read, it is first hand documents from the archives. there are plenty of them to prove that churchill had personal gains by engineering a german attack, he wanted germany to attack. elberivers figures on dresden are true, do you not think the british used propaganda as well!

  • @garfrain you know so dam little friend, it wasnt all about protecting this island it was also about liberating the oppressed and freeing them from the tyrant hitler ... you also should read about the bombing of london coventry liverpool etc read about the v1 and v11 the night raids on london that went on night after night.the sinking of merchant navy ships to stop our supplies.read about YOUR country YOUR country men to get a balanced view.war is never simple it is barbaric and distructive

  • @kitkat6026 *destructive

  • @garfrain wow thanks.it warms my heart to know your on the ball.

  • @kitkat6026 *you're

  • @garfrain clever you are, it will serve you well as you progress e noho ra........

  • @garfrain elberiver11 is a nazi and spews his bigoted views all over these pages ,the words[ elberiver11 is right,] is an affront ....................

  • London can take it? Well, London has chosen to!

You British gangsters killed our children first - we bombed you back.

You could have stopped the "Blitz" any time, Churchill received exactly 24 peace offes from Germany, one of them even brought to him by the Pope in Rome.

But your fat racist warmonger Churchill thought he stands higher than god - he chose war. You British people should stop lying about your history.

  • @Elberiver11 God man, do you just go around video's dedicated to the British during the war, and then vomit your pointless half arsed moronic drivel, hoping to bait people into arguing with you and trying to convert them. Can't you see your just a pest, no one is listening to you and no one cares what white supremacy rubbish you have to spout. And don't message me again cause I will delete them unread.

  • @Elberiver11 why stop a war we was going to win? its funny the language you speak to me in though, oh how very funny indeed =D

  • If they could have seen the future state of the country and how it was decimated by it's own treasonous Governments they wouldn't have bothered fighting.

  • @aeronuk1 i completely agree. the government has been systematically dismantling the social structure of england for too long now when willl it stop .a once great and noble peoples turned into what we now know today as hoodies and delinquents ie cocks

  • what a luck for the engelish that the bombing war from the germans not was the same like the engelish! What a luck for the germans that they don´t have do what the engelish did!!

  • @nachtschattenuser it was hitler who said for every 100 bonbs england dropped germany wouuld drop 1000

  • @Elberiver11 germany reaped the rewards of electing someone like hitler as commander in chief. you talk about british atrocities that are debatable and with exagerated numbers but the nazis wanted the wholesale slaughter of anyone who was deemed of a lesser standard than germans and that would have been allot of people. and we did fight on the ground heavily where do you think we had such big losses of men. you keep talking bollocks

  • germany reaped the rewards of electing someone like hitler as commander in chief.

    ----

    LOL! Good one, mate!

You Britishers have elected your Satanist commander-in chief of the criminal RAF-gang, Arthur Harris. If we judge the evil British by their own satanist standards, we should throw 600 000 British children and women into the fire.

Are you sure you want to reap what you sow? lol Careful - you will be judged by your own sick satanist standards yourself.

  • @Elberiver11 yeh answer the other point rather than talking bollocks . what would the nazis have done if they won and if they had the air superiority that the allies had oh i wonder

  • @goj09dale

it was hitler who said for every 100 bonbs england dropped germany wouuld drop 1000

    ______

.....after the evil British Empire had started bombing Germany.....read history, you uneducated dumb fat American. lol

  • 1)

    Berlin Blitz = June 1940

    London Blitz = Sep 1940

    ____________

    2)

First English bombs on Germany: same day they started war on Germany

First German retaliation on England: ONE month later.

You tell me, who started! hahaha Fucking English morons, you are liars and you cover up your criminal history. Be ashamed to be British - country of liars.

  • @Elberiver11 yeh the nazis bombed london the day before its all there written in stone. the german government wont deny this so why the fuck do you. ur so blatantly not german its funny

  • The Britis Empire was a racist murderous superpower, an aggressive global bully who started 10 times more wars than Germany did. The British invaded Ireland and killed 5.2 Million innocent Irish, while the world would not bat an eyelid. Research: IRISIH HOLOCAUST. The evil British also invaded North America, started war on countless indian nations e.g. Sioux, Lakota, Cherokee etc. and exterminated them all in the NATIVE AMERICAN HOLOCAUST.

Evil British Empire = not victim, put perpetrator.

  • @Elberiver11 what would the nazis have done if they had won oh i wonder.

  • This British childkiller Major Harris killed 10 times as many innocent women and childrens in Germany. than Hitler ever killed in England. Learn history, moron.

Who elected Harris and Churchill, the two satanist Massmurderers who deliberately threw half a million children and women into gigantic furnaces, one of them 12 square miles wide and several miles high? Burning over 7 days, melting asphalt and turning streets into glowing rivers of Lava?

That was you evil British racists, wasn't it?

  • @Elberiver11 why are you talking about brits as if it was me or the next man who went to war. the past is fine to learn from, not to live in....get over it =D

  • @goj09dale

I saw a lot of newsreels of London directly after the "Blitz" - e.g. the "victory" parade 1945 in Colour (lol the Brits, too coward to fight man-to-man on the ground, celebrate the Yank's victory).

All of Downton London like Picadilly Cs., Regent St. etc. looks completely undestroyed! Can you tell me please why? Nearly all houses standing, happy people.

In Dresden you didn't see a single house over 12 Square miles, but a moonscape. And no human beings.

    Who was the criminal?

  • @Elberiver11 what rubbish the brits were too cowardly to fight on the ground thats complete bollocks.

yeh as i said allied air superiority. the nazis would have done worse if they could have

  • A truly amazing film. 5 Stars

  • This is an historic document. It's wonderful to see it on a free, public service like Youtube.

  • One could say the Socialists, or the EU but I don't think it is as simple as all that. And we know that if the Conservatives or LibDems got in, little would really change. There seems to be a concentrated effort to subjugate the population through fear.

  • My family went to the theater one night, they came home to no house. I wonder could it be one I saw in this video. Really makes me understand the stories my grandparents told. This is best watched at night, near a window where you can contemplate and imagine what it must have been like... will it be your house tonight? ?Your shop? Your friends? ... Amazing video

  • @Bigredgumball . You pointed out something lost in the foul mouthed arguments on this page - the human aspect of the bombings. What is it like to go out for the evening and come back to a blackened shell, or nothing at all? If only people would look outside of themselves and their political arguments to see the human view and cost of these actions. Perhaps they wouldn't be so quick to spew venom at each other in these postings. Thanks for your sharing and sensitivity.

  • thanks for postihng this! very helpful, was just trying to write a paper from memory of only one viewing! yikes

  • The British won the propaganda war against the Germans with amazing films like this. While the Germans were talking to their own people, the British were talking to the world.

  • Every british city took a beating, night after night for 5 years, especially Coventry (almost bombed out of existence). Virtually every UK family lost someone during this time, and many are still trying to trace their lost relatives. The UK is now only a shadow of it's former self. Was the cost worth it?

  • better than having to speak German now - if we'd been allowed to be around at all!!

of course, that's easier for me to say, since I didn't go through it myself - but they must have thought so then, cos if they'd have fought just a tad less hard that's what would have happened.

    They saved the world.

  • I take your point, and we (British) could never have accepted such a regime. British history is littered with the fallen in defence of freedom. Lets face it, we have spent most of our history battling, mostly with each other. One reason for Hitler not invading Britain when he had the opportunity is that Britain would be a hell hole to control, no matter what measures he took. So why invite trouble? Maybe we should have withdrawn after the Battle of Britain and left Europe to get on with it!

  • that might have been fine - if we could have been sure that Hitler would have stopped at the Channel! But people like that never know when to stop - it would have been our turn sooner or later.

  • I thin "ealth 'n' Safety, and Political Corectness are partly responsible for Britain's present malady.

  • @ampersandtay

yes, but who is responsible for those things?

  • I love the music at the start of this clip. Does anyone know what it is called?

  • It is the last movement of the "London" Symphony by Ralph Vaughn-Williams, one of the greatest of 20th century British composers.

  • @stickershomeplus Thank You :)

  • We will never forget about this.

  • Amazing! Thanks for posting.

  • experience it befor you make an observation

  • It is a shame that folks of today have forgotten about this. We're so into ourselves and our "rights" that we've forgotten what our grandparents went through, and the daily sacrifices that they made. We're not nearly as resilient today, as they were then. It's easier today to point fingers and blame others for what is wrong, then to face problems head on. We complain about war but forget about those who are suffering in Arab nations, like what happened with Germany. Sad. Very, VERY sad.

  • sadly, I have to agree. Can you see this "gimme" generation, this "me first" generation, suffering such deprivation? and i'm not being bolier-than-thou - I live in the east end, and i sometimes wonder how much use I'd have been. I'm so glad that I don't have to find out

  • Of course this is propaganda. The reality was different. Not everyone was pulling in the same direction. You had riots in the East End because all the bombs seemed to be falling on working class districts. There were murders, rapes and looting. Even Britain's old friends the IRA were active in London during the War. There was prostitution thriving. In the London Underground conditions were bad with people breaking wind and having sex. Non of this reality is included in this "information"!

  • Yes, of course you are right, but I think that to emphasise what was not the most predominant mood of the time would have been pointless. Somewhere in the middle of all of that there was a spirit of defiance and resolve, if only because they had no real option. Reynolds and Ed Murrow were also trying to convince the Americans that Britain and its people were worth coming to the aid of. I think it is unfair to diminish the contribution of the many because of the failings of the few.

  • what a feeling it is to watch this. how proud i am of londoners.

  • I can't imagine living through this as a nightly occurence.

  • Its D-Day, and I just watched this on TCM (Turner Classic Movies), after Mrs. Miniver. Very powerful.

If you haven't seen Mrs. Miniver, watch the ending 1/2 hr at least. Amazing speech at the end by the pastor.

  • Coverage of the Blitz, judged crap by a Miley Cyrus fan.

Words fail me. Its almost poetic.

Ah, enjoy your sheltered years, little one, these years of candy, giggling and handbags. War will come for you soon enough.

  • London = almost undestroyed, except a few buildings broken in the slums of the East End and around St. Paul's.

Pforzheim = a city completely wiped off the map by the criminal RAF-gangsters, who brutally slaughtered 20 000 people in Pforzheim in only one night - a whole THIRD of the whole population.

Sweenemunda = overcrowded with refugees, women and children. Attacked by the RAF, 20 000 killed. Survivor reports how girls and women stumbled through heads, arms, legs, torn off.

  • Two small unknown cities, 40 000 killed: more than the whole death toll of London during the entire war.

And yet, this was only a fraction of what the RAF massmurdered. None of these cities receive any media attention by the perpetrators. Why is none of your warcrimes shown on TV or taught to your children?

  • war crimes? The germans pounded our great cities like an iron fist. kileld our people. killed a generation of our men in the great war, My great uncle,Great grandad, grandad are al ldead in war graves in belgium, because they would not let the germans kill millions and not be punished. What do you expect britian to do when they killed so many of our people?

  • If someone came into your house, were trying to set fire to it,with your family inside. Of course you are going to fight, you will fight with fury, you wil lfight to every last inch, for as long as there is a breath in your body you will fight. it was no war crimes, it was what britian did to survive the war

  • @Elberiver11 If the RAF were 'mass murderers' what does that make the SS? Auschwitz, Bergen Belsen, Chelmno, Dachau, Flossenberg, Maidenek, Ravensbruck, Sobibor and Treblinka to name but a few are by far the blackest pages in European History. Dresden? Pffft. You started the war and you lost. I suggest you deal with it.

  • Auschwitz, Bergen Belsen, Chelmno, Dachau, Flossenberg, Maidenek, Ravensbruck, Sobibor and Treblinka

----bla bla bla. Shove your silly Hollywood-shows where the sun does not shine. Its getting old.

You British criminals did not suck German children, babies and women into a gigantic Firestorm-furnace created with Napalm-bomb which raged over 12 square miles, in order to "save the Jews". You try to link the war to the SHOA - this is Hollywood-fiction.

  • @Elberiver11

Good god man, how can you accuse my country of such things? Your country was the one to make the first move.

  • @Elberiver11 Tell that to the people of Warsaw, Rotterdam, London, Moscow and Leningrad you Nazi scum.

  • The racist British Apartheid-Empire started war officially to "save Poland", not to "save the Jews", you moron. Learn your own evil Empire's history, mate.

The Jewish Genocide was not even known in 1939, thus had nothing to do with you British criminals starting war. In truth, your evil British Empire tried to destroy a competitor - nothing else.

"We do not merely fight the Nazis - but the whole German nation'".

Lord Robert Vansittart to Lord Halifax (British Foreign Minister) in 1941.

  • @brit1955

"We" started the war? LOL Have you ever been to school, mate? Britain started war on Germany - not the other round. Read history, moron. And please dont give me your silly "invading Poland"-fraud: Poland had stolen and occupied German land, Germany was right to retrieve what was theirs.

By the way: this German land was stolen by Poles and British thieves together in 1919. Makes you wonder, who started war. You have a short memory, dont you, mate? lol

  • @Elberiver11 NAZI SCUM

  • @Elberiver11 Our children are taught about the EU and how and why it came into being. The original European Coal and Steel Community Treaty of 1951 was expressly designed to limit and control German access to the materials of war. The Common Agricultural Policy is war reparation to France by another name. You were rather naughty and are still paying for it. Bail out for Greece next please!

  • @Elberiver11 Hitler made a non aggression pact with Denmark and Norway, only to invade a year later. Did the same with Russia, only to invade a year later. Then in December 1941, one day after Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour, Hitler declared war on the USA. You should read a History Book about WWII !

  • PS: Your country lies about the number of innocents she murdered, too. Why cant you Britsih people become honest ? The warcriminal Churchill said, it was 20 000 people. The International Red Cross (indepent and impartial Doctor's organisation ) said it was 202 040. Who is lying?

    You Brits dropped an "0"......

Also note that London was fully defended, and not overcrowded with 500 000 refugees, mainly women and children. They all perished in the devilish Firestorm, created by human hand.

  • @Elberiver11 Oh shut up and get a life you bloody Nazi piece of shit-we're not the country that lost two wars in a row and were dumb enough to worship a xrazed dictator who WASN'T EVEN FROM GERMANY. DU SCHEISSEN!!!

  • @FatihAkyelsRevenge SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Elberiver11 We have nothing to be ashamed about, we had every right to defend our country and freedom and the freedom of the rest of the world at all cost, the only way we could win the war was to fight back. and we didn't accept germany peace offers, because it would be false. They would just be getting ready for their troops to invade

  • @H215 You didnt read the comment well..unless you were there... I was as I was a kid ..watching the planes with mates ..my dads in the RAF..we'll get the buggers ... mates Dad in the RN on board. HMS Rodney... dad wont let them get here..no not..crap just pride

  • @michaeal053 Thank you for sharing that, Michaeal. That moment in time, that attitude - you conveyed it so well. I'll remember this.

I thought MileyCyrusFan was calling the film itself "crap." (Miley Cyrus is a light and fluffy, young American pop star. Her fans are generally about 10-12 years old and have a reputation for often being naive, sheltered and very emotional.)

  • @H215 PROPHETIC!!!!

  • @mileycyrusfan313 -wow, an important historical document judged crap by a thick bint who likes Miley Cyrus.....anyone else see the irony?

  • @mileycyrusfan313 When my mother was your age, she didnt "watch this crap". She and my uncle were already underground, fighting the occupiers, blowing up railway lines and factories working for the nazis, sending intelligence back to London.

You see: Till she was 12, she had had a totally normal life. Until one morning in 1940, when the planes appeared and tens of thousands of Nazis came from all over.

From that day her life changed. Forever.

  • My Dad, who's now 83, lived at No.19 and tells me about dodging falling shrapnel, watching the flying bombs, hearing explosions. The bomb crater shown at 8:32 seconds into the video was the 2nd of three in a row..the first went one side of the flats, onto the shelter, the other this side as shown, and the third about 100 yds up the road, which you can also see. The road surface from that 3rd one has only recently been properly repaired !.

  • Amazing. There is a lot of stuff still recognisable. Love to your father, well done him!

  • The flats shown at 5:39secs into the video, is in Frampton St. London NW8. They are still there and you can see where the damage has been repaired. I was born in 1950 on this Estate, a plaque on the wall under the window of the room where I was born marks where a bomb went into the shelter killing many.

An aeroplane factory just down the road was the intended target. The scene at 8:32 seconds in was taken on the balcony outside my family's front door, N.19 Stanfield House.

  • what did it feel like to see it again?

did you know this footage existed? Have you seen it before?

  • this is the sort of thing they should show you in school .

i know it's tacky to say but it does make you think.

  • No Gingerbill128, it's most certainly NOT a tacky remark to make. We ALL need reminding from time to time of the sacrifices a previous generation made so that we could live in freedom. Indeed, it does give one pause to think.

  • it should be taught in school indeed! old saying that to forget what happened before is one way to make sure it happens again ... so long as, nowadays, they teach about German cities and German civilians killed as well - and learn that it's abuse of power that causes wars

  • God I hate the sound of the air raid sirens its so eerie. They were so brave to live through the blitz.

  • Never get tired of watching this one 5 stars

  • 2:29 How poetic and well said.

  • Inspiring

  • Wat een mooi filmpje. Thanks!

  • inbetweeners

  • I'm from London, but - rather unfortunately - I can't take it. Bombs are one thing. Idiots are another.

  • Ignorant..

  • No, seriously. Londoners don't suffer idiots lightly.

  • I know mate. But show some bloody respect for those who died because of these bombs.

  • What makes you think I'm being disrespectful? I was berating the cunts that were coming in here and saying it was a boring video.

  • Ok, well sorry mate I misinterpreted what you were saying

  • Will you two stop bickering?

  • We had.. Till you brought it up again

  • Oh....so it's all my fault then?

  • Yep :)

  • Unfair blaming me for all the argueing!

  • do all you people come back to check your coments? im not going to, so feel free to heckle all you..... fucking british

  • @happyman286

"Fucking British" jeez when did you start hating us :L You helped us during the war and now are country's can barley be civil to each other.

  • @happyman286 yeah, all us "fucking British" who GAVE you America. You're Welcome :)

  • @boltoniangirl Does "American War of Independence" mean anything to you? I don't think "gave" and "you're welcome" would be the right words to use if it did.

  • @Yuushoku England put America on the map, as well as helped populate it. Queen Elizabeth was the only person looney enough in Europe to actually fund and ship the journey to help America. My ancestors (and yes I do mean my relatives) were on the Mayflower. If it wasn't for the intervention of the English, the American history would look a lot different.

  • Comment removed

  • @boltoniangirl The intent was to colonize and capitalize, not to help make a new country. They wanted British citizens, not Americans. So while England may have colonized a good portion of the eastern coast and contributed in that respect to present American history, it's important to realize that when the colonists began to identify themselves as Americans (no longer British citizens) and decided that they wanted to break, they were not GIVEN that territory, they FOUGHT for it.

  • @boltoniangirl Yeah, you`d all be speaking French.

  • ricky sent me here

  • me 2

  • me too! i watch anything he tells me to lol

  • Hardcore... thanks to Ricky and NationalArchives08

  • It's not the most thrilling viewing. But it is an important part of our history that people should be aware of.

  • Good morale video

  • 2 World Wars and one World Cup doo dah doo dah

  • you know, we really need to get over that word cup-we won ONE nearly 50 years ago-of all the things to beat people with, being massive underachievers at football really isnt it-its embarrassing that people think its a source of pride that they can use to mock others-we have won ONE poxy cup

  • @bulked lol, the germans dont even really remember that world cup

  • @al28283 very true

  • ricky brought me here!

  • me too

  • And me! :D

  • I hate to contradict you but this is an American film in a series of newsreels called "The March of Time" Made by Time magazine and perhaps one of the first cross-media concepts ever.

It did indeed have a massive impact on American public opinion.

  • Sorry but that's not quite right. It was made by Humphrey Jennings and produced by the GPO (General Post Office) Film unit, shortly before it became know as the Crown film unit. This was governed by the British MOI. The American voice over was most likely designed to encourage America to join the war. Perhaps later it was shown in a series of newsreels for Time magazine? It is however a British Film.

  • jennings is a legend.

  • Look the fascist straight in the eye, and pull the trigger...

  • History will always rightly question the politics of war but I will always by proud of my parents generation for how they faced those times.

  • is this the original version?
