It was charging. 2 on 1 is wrong also, but he went in to break it up also, and the third Reign play that got involved was trying to break it up also. It's a chain of events. Ontario Reign were ahead 5-1 in a game that they dominated. With 2 minutes to go, Reign about to score and no hope for Bakersfield Condors, the extreme hit occurred. The question was whether the hit was intended to injure. All of these players play to win and they have a tendency to fight otherwise they would not be in hockey. The hit did not generate a penalty, but McKenzie expected a fight so you can assume that his hit was intended to produce the result that it did.

Secondly, Just because Canada is a hockey nation doesnt mean it endorses fighting. Its tolerated cuz the game is so fast and physical. Players are from all over the world. There are professional leagues all over the world where players fight. did you know the NHLs commissioner Gary Bettman is American?!?

I have nothing against Canada, just think of it as a Canadian sport. I don't know ice hockey too well (to me hockey is what you would call 'Field Hockey'). When I say that fighting is endorsed, I'm talking specifically of the videos of fights between 2 guys in the middle of the rink, with referees standing there looking at them. To me, that's an endorsement of violence that it's tolerated and shown on TV. I'm not complaining, as a guy I find the violence fascinating :)

Berube didn't "attack" a guy with a mask on. He grabbed him, asked if he wanted to go, and then the jawwed back and forth. As I noted above the first punch was Pitton's. Pitton could have said "no" but instead he threw a punch.
