It's actually safer than smaller particle colliders, because micro black holes are harmless (because they just vanish due to hawking radiation) and it's less likely to produce strangelets than a less powerful particle collider.

The concept of the God Particle is most probably correct but to assume that recreating the conditions for its detection will remain as science fiction. Generating Quantum conditions of time and space will not allow detection of the God Particle in designed precise locations. Unexpected forces under these conditions can easily be generated in other parts of the cyclotrone (Let the mathematicians give this some thought, if only to prevent further costs to the Project.

as i understand it, no collisions yet, even as late as July 4, 2009. the people gloating about not having re-created the Big Bang or black holes, apparently didnt even know that for any particle production from collisions, collisions are first necessary-- the startup tests have not included any collisions, as i understand it. one would think even pop science writers would make that point clear, but perhaps not making that clear was part of their job.

There are, although very rare, highly relavitivistic protons smashing into our upper atmosphere that have energies of 10^20 eV, far above those that can be produced by the LHC.
If these particles have never creeate a stable black hole or a vacuum bubble or some othewr 'dooms-day' until now, then we are quite safe with the LHC.

when it run's at full power. I believe that instead of a black hole forming, I believe it will be more like a gateway. Reformation of lay lines will occur creating a nexus. A hole yes. No black holes because this was only an initial test of the machine in which they spun individual proton particles in the SAME direction. The REAL experiment isn't scheduled until this spring when they will actually COLLIDE particles traveling in OPPOSITE direction. How stupid these people are that don't even understand what they are doing. Of course nothing will happen whenever you're merely testing the machine to make sure that it is capable of spinning the particles in the same direction.
