The sound of the player comes first from his finger or the player tonal approach. If you give this guy the ugliest sounding bass , he will still get the same tone.Yeah! the magic of fingers
Hilarious. At 1:37, Richard is saying to the audience, "Maybe you'd be better suited to a red neck bar where the musicians play behind chicken wire and play C-D and G all night."
Freakin' jerks! I saw this show live at Catalina's in Hollywood and it was the most amazing thing I had ever seen. This audience has no respect. No respect at all. I totally think Richard stopped this one early.
Yes, in fact, the face of Zawinul shows, that people are too noisy for such a nice song, and Bona's probably fed up ...stops, and starts with a fast solo, trying to change the situation. That's what it seems.....
ahahah! I don't know what this is supposed to be, but it's good and it's funny. He has the miller bass, and he's even dressed up like Miller. Then he seems to get pissed of by the audience, who is just chatting while he's performing this expressive, sentimental tune. Then it seems as he would react by stopping the tune and by starting jsut playing fast runs on the neck. as in "You just want fast solos. i'll deliver that crap then! Foch youuu!"
Do you have any information about the year this clip was made? I must say his singing has become sooooooooo much better, but his musicality was always stunning.
nose que le habran gritado del publico pero despues de el solo las risas se dejaron de escuchar y los aplausos le dieron la razon al señor richard bona, una gran leccion!!!!!!!!!!

this is exactly the same model as marcus's bass before he(marcus) modified his.
grazer770 2 years ago
thats a fender '75 and not a marcus miller model(for details look at the potentiometer)
hallunath 2 years ago 3
Right. Marcus's model is replica from '77...not '75 :)

Joe's face at 1:10 says it all. Such a shame truly great artists can be so under appreciated.

Bona, really very good. I think he was upset by the audience.
Some stupid audience didn't know what they listen...
The late Joe Zawinul knew it, maybe...

That's the Marcus Miller signature bass, maybe he was trying to dress like Marcus for fun.

I was wondering, in fact. So thanks for the info. Is this tune on a recording anywhere?
DrShrinker 4 years ago
yup, it's in Bona's album called 'Munia: The Tale'
m0rtem 4 years ago
Thanks. I've loved this tune since I first saw Richard perform it in '96. Can't wait to check out the "album version."
