  • Karen is my favorite Gidget!

  • Personly, I was rather dissapointed with the fact that they didn't use James Darren as Moondoggie! He was perfect and besides that, when they keep on changing the actor or actress for a certain character...it's just wrong! :(

  • @kpdysart Maybe James didn't want to play the part again?

  • Aired on the ABC Movie Of The Week 12/30/69. haqve not seen this in years.

  • The music is a high point...I like Shorty Rogers' work. He did the incidental music for the first season of THE PARTRIDGE FAMILY, and I prefer it to the subsequent compositions by Hugo Montenegro. He was also requested personally by legendary Warner Bros. animator Friz Freleng to do the jazz music for his 1957 cartoon THREE LITTLE BOPS--he didn't trust resident composer Carl Stalling to be hip enough.

  • I hate the way they make Valentine look like Sally Field in the beach scene here....pigtails and push-up bra.

  • who could possibly resist these terrific movies!?

  • Cute waiter Arnold!!!

  • Oh, God!!!

I miss the 1970's so much!!!

  • Thanks so much for posting this...I am so very curious...How did you ever manage to save this?...Did they have video tapes when this came out...Please excuse my ignorance...Thanks :)

  • I agree with you MagicMaureen46. Now that I've reached my late 40s, I realize now that cursing is like eating a pb&j...as a person matures, tastes change, and cursing doesn't fit an adult taste, any more than pb&j, chocolate milk and a bag of Fritos would for lunch. Maybe the F-word had a tough look and thrill to it when I was in elementary school, but with maturity comes the realization that cursing is just not acceptable. It is the refuge for those who aren't educated, and don't care to be.

  • @RichHartley19671 Well, it can denote a lack of class in certain situations, .. however, I do think there is a proper time for profanity. Anyway, she didn't have to react in THAT manner. I'd say Maureen46 should use some of her magic to thicken her skinn and toughen her sensibilities some.

  • LOVE IT...LOVE the classics and Karen Valentine...thanks for sharing this Gem.

  • They did this again the 80's The New Gidget show.

  • I'm sorry, but that song comes off sounding like a karoake performance. A REALLY BAD

one. Has its moments, though, thanks to Paul Lynde. Does she raise her voice three octives higher trying to come off sounding like a teenager? Still, I would rather watch this than the idiotic teenage slasher movies where you root for the monster???

  • Has anyone been able to track down "The Girl Who Came Gift-Wrapped?"

  • Thank you for posting this! How fun to see this again after all these years!

  • Either she reminds me of Mila Kunis or Mila Kunis reminds me of her.

  • @raymondr612001 I was watching an episode of Room 222 recently after not having watched it for a while, and that's immediately what struck me...how much her and Mila Kunis sound alike. It's like they were twins separated by a generation.

  • Thanks for posting this Gidget out of all the Gidget's this one I like the bests! Thanks again.

  • my nickkname is Gidgit thatss so so cool.!(:well this isnt my chcannel im on:p

  • Thank you so much for posting this favorite from my past. I haven't been able to find it anywhere until now. Altho I was hoping for a DVD this is the next best thing.

  • "Gidget Goes to New York" was Fredrick Kohner's last Gidget book. Their reunion takes place in a movie theater where they both watching "The Endless Summer" (the best ever surfing movie) and bump into each other during intermission. They did it themselves; they didn't need dad to run interference. It's a great reunion scene and one of the few I remember from the book (except that they get married in Greenland in the end nd then call dad).

Still, this is a silly, fun movie.

  • This also doubled as a pilot for a new "GIDGET" series, which the network ultimately passed on. Caryn Richman, the 1985-'87 "Gidget", was also a brunette.

  • She's all growed up!

  • Loved this movie and always had a crush on Paul Peterson. And love this theme song. this brings back such wonderful memories.

  • I like what she says when she gets off the bus.............."Well there it is - The United Nations, one of humanities noblest achievments"......................LMAO!! That`s like saying "Well there it is, the bubonic plague...One of humanities noblest achievments!"

  • Am I mistaken? Didn't Sally Fields play as Gidget too.

  • Yes she did, She played gidget on the TV series.

  • I remember that. I was kind of young but remember those good t.v. shows. Not like todays where kids are brats. Parents are to blame for that though.

  • @iscrca Sandra Dee played her originaly.

  • If someone dropped an F bomb contact the moderator. IT will be removed or dealt with internally. I only watch a few moments.

  • christmasfellow2008 - thank you thank you thank you!! I loved this movie oh so many years ago and been wanting to watch it again. Thank you thank you thank you!

  • Haven't seen this in over 30 years. WABC used to show this as the fourth movie in Gidget Week on the 4:30 Movie. Karen was okay, but to me, the best and cutest Gidget was Deborah Walley in Gidget Goes Hawaiian.

Another romantic comedy I remember them playing on the 4:30 Movie every once in a while was "The Feminist and the Fuzz," starring Barbara Eden and David Hartman.

  • Nothing beats the ABC MOVIE OF THE WEEK! No mistaking the music, yellow titles and of course Karen Valentine.

  • I am such of fan of all the Gidget movies, but this is my fav!! Thanks!!!

  • This makes me so mad! Here I sign in to watch an innocent, wholesome film and see the f-word. Why did you have to use such a crude, offensive word? And to describe a woman??? Is this how you talk in real life??? I just hate the Internet. People think nothing of using terrible language.

  • I agree with you 100 % It's nice to know there are others that feel the way I do... It makes me maddest when someone uses bad language on vids where you know children will be seeing it!!

  • you can send a message to the person who posted the video and they have the ability to delete the offending comment. depending on the type of video they may do that. if its a family-friendly video they more likely than not will do it, if its not a family-friendly video to begin with, no.

  • @MagicMaureen46 Ya know, if you react THAT way and they see it, then they'll likely just do it even MORE just to spite ya. I'd therefore advise you to just disregard it and avoid commenting on it if posible. Just a suggestion.

  • Arnold is Michael Lembeck, the son of Harvey Lembeck.

Harvey was in Sgt Bilko TV show and Harvey was also the motorcycle finger snapping guy in the Frankie and Annette beach movies.

  • Paul Peterson dated Sally Field (TV series Gidget) in the mid-60's for a while.

She and Karen were the only brunette Gidgets.

  • Dee and Carol-blonde, Walley-redhead, Valentine and Field-brunette. Gidget has been every hair colour. I think it was the spirit of the girl that was more important. I guess that's why I didn't care for Carol too much.

  • Caryn Richman was a brunette too.

  • I remember watching this TV movie when it first aired, since I was a Gidget fan. Then when Room 222 came on the following year, I recognized her as one of the teachers. This movie helped to sort of introduced her to ABC viewers. She was also a Miss Teen America or something like that before doing this movie .

  • Remember another TV movie she did a little after this, "The Girl Who Came Gift Wrapped"? I think her first appearance in that was a swimsuit scene.

  • I hope she went out with Arnold, otherwise she would just be using the besotted sap. I notice how Gidget has gotten even better at manipulating people. Wish I could be that good!

  • Shown on the ABC movie of the week on December 30 1969.

  • This is a long time childhood favorite of mine! Thanks for the post, wish it was on DVD!

  • So refreshing to find something fun to

watch. i usually write and just listen to

    the shows. That's fun too!

    Thank you my friend!

    Cathy

    Bobby's Girl

  • All I can say is a super thank you for posting one of my old faves!

  • You're welcome. I had forgotten I even had this until I ran across it recently.

  • The beautiful theme song is by Jean King of the Blossoms.

  • Thank you for solving that mystery. It certainly plays a prominent part in this film.
