  • The Lakeerie90s comment is nonsense. Linda Keen was simply doing her job, imposing existing safety regulations. There is now a list of people who Harper has fired because those people spoke the truth and caused embarrassment to the government. Other public servants have been intimidated and had silence imposed. All Canadians suffer for that loss.

  • she should have been appointed to that post in the first place! To me this is not Liberal vs Tory, if anything, its Canada vs Europe. She was indirectly promoting European reactor technology by trying to impose regulations that would effectively disqualify the Canadian CANDU technology in favour of European PWR technology. TRAITOR!!

  • What a courageous lady! She stood up to the bully and followed the dictates of her conscience. She lost her job. Her wisdom proved spot on. If this were any other country but Canada there`d be a movement to have her nominated for sainthood. But what do we do? ??? nothing . Not a comment in her favour. Well let me be the first on this board . Ms. Keen, I have the highest regard for your wisdom, and courage. YOU are a true Canadian hero. Steven Harper... SHAME ON YOU!!!

  • Of course the media is Liberal biased, they always have been. This is a country that has always had a natural governing party, which has always been the Liberals; most of the population are Liberal thinkers, which means, in all likelihood those within the media are Liberal thinkers, as well. It's only human nature that they would be biased, and overcoming that isn't as simple as saying "Okay, we must neutral." Their bias will come out subtly, and in some cases, completely evidently.

  • Or, as it's often said, "Reality has a well-known liberal bias."

  • That it does. Unfortunately there are a great deal in this world that live partially outside of reality. The only true way to be is Liberal, in my opinion. And I don't mean liberal as it is defined by government, the media, and society as a whole these days. I mean liberal as in the TRUE meaning of the word. These days we only seem to have Neo Conservative and Neo Liberal political parties to choose from. Hell, most people aren't even aware that true conservatism is about conserving LIBERTY.

  • Conservatism in it's truest form IS liberalism. Some may doubt this, but all one has to do is look up Canada's past political parties. The very first party to form a government in Canada after Confederation was the Liberal-Conservative Party, and in the States, one of their first parties was the DemocraticRepublican Party.

  • Ah yes, the foundations of classical liberalism, "liberte, fraternite, egalite." Noble and certainly worth conservation. Sadly, modern conservatives, whether Tories or Republicans, appear to be more concerned with the conservation of wealth than liberty.

  • And as is the case in the States, conserving many bigoted ideals left over from a certain ancient text (the Bible, of course), and DECIDING what their citizen's "family values" should be and then trying to conserve those ideals that supposedly nearly everybody holds before dismissing all the ideals they don't come up with themselves. But I really shouldn't go into that... He he. I really do despise Neo Liberals and Neo Conservatives. :S

  • Completely true. Classic liberalism is very similar to Canadian Conservatism. Alternatively, our Liberal party is merely a party of power with no discernible political philosophy. They merely take the path of least resistance on a consistent basis.

This is probably the one issue that I can actually respect the NDP for: they have a political philosophy that presents itself in their policy. The Liberals do not. That is why they act arbitrarily and without apparent pattern.

  • Hmmmmm. Well, I've got to say I support the Conservative government, though of course not on every issue. I think they would do well to tone down their overbearingness. If they were to stop needing to have such power and hold on EVERYTHING they would go up in the polls.

Lets remember though, we Canadians are used to Liberal rule by default, the Conservatives are really different than what we've known for a while, so obviously many people are not going to be a bit weary of them.

  • They have good reason, Conservatives have a hidden agenda, it's not the the who are currently speaking out and are visible that scare, though some do. It's the crazy, far-right extremists that Mr. Harper has muzzled for the moment that scares me.

  • Don't kid yourself, they ALL have a secret agenda, it doesn't matter if they're Conservative or Liberal, and I highly doubt that the Conservatives have any huge, terrible, wicked plots in mind that are going to absolutely destroy the country; that's just what their opponents and the Liberal biased media what's wants people to think. The fact of the matter is, Canadians are used to Liberal EVERYTHING so much it's gotten to the point they're basically not open to anything BUT the Liberal party.

  • That's not true. As fot the Liberal biased, it's bullshit, this is not the US, where you're either left-wing or right-wing. And if you knew about Haper's Reform and Alliance days, you'd question Harpers motives too.

  • maybe when canada abolishes state media (hello, CBC is on par with Iranian TV, or even Aljazeera), then they might have some kind of ground to stand on with their BS (canadians, err, communists broadcasting crap AKA the CBC) reporting.

  • The CBC is a Crown Corporation. They receive government funds but they are independent of the government. The government in no way controls what they report. If you compare the news that CTV and CBC report, there's virtually no difference between the news that they both report except for the format in which they do so. Comparing the CBC to state run media in Iran is just ignorant.

  • Indeed, a far better parallel is the oft-lauded BBC, in terms of breadth of discussion, journalistic rigour, and success as a public service. I'm honestly proud of the portion of my taxes that are allocated to the CBC.
