Hi, we just uploaded a 3D video, which is very interesting and well done, on our official komball channel. Come take a look at it. Click on my username to check it out. We are waiting for your opinions and your suggestions on our video. Thanks.
And if I worked for Microsoft/Yahoo, then why am I posting suggestions to help improve Google's product? Google Earth is still amazing, but I feel that this new feature is an overall downgrade in quality of the 3D cities. MS Virtual Earth/Bing Maps/whatever they call it is practically unusable when it comes to 3D city viewing, and I've hardly used Yahoo Maps, but both are vastly inferior compared to Google Earth.
dang buckykatt - this is just a new roll-out that's free - I would imagine that Google will have an option to turn the 3D off. They haven't ruined anything. You sure you don't work for Microsoft....or Yahoo Maps?
I'm just saying, there should be an option to turn them on or off, because there isn't one currently. If Google doesn't do that, then they should at least touch up the auto-generated images before they are released.
Look at downtown San Francisco or Los Angeles. The new facades look horrible on the tall buildings. and there are many errors (eg. sky is in the image) in the smaller buildings as well.
This new feature is terrible, and has ruined parts of these Californian cities.
While some buildings do look better with these Street View images added on to them, many others look glitchy and unpolished. The new facades don't always match the lighting of the original buildings either, which gives the taller buildings an odd and unrealistic look. Google should at least give us the option to turn these facades on and off if they're not going to go in and fix these glitches.
It's too bad that Google doesn't discuss in the blog post how these images are generated. Obviously they didn't pay a bunch of people to draw everything in SketchUp... although, obviously, they could. Instead they paid them to be f'ing brilliant. It's crazy how many cool technologies Google casually releases without fanfare.
That was an amazing job!!! Congrats!

Would be cool if they made an animated traffic system, to make the city look "lively".
Anyway, awesome. I am using the Google Building Maker to help speed of a 3D world :)

Uhhh. From the blog post linked in the description over there to the left....
We've constructed these models by using imagery from Street View, similar to the way that users can make photo-textured models in SketchUp 7.1.
