people are real idiots, unless you are a dog breeder and have had to tape years, you really should shut your mouths, I have been breeding dogs for years, Shelties, and Corgis and sometimes the ears need to be glued or taped to get the correct ear shape, it is not in humane to tape ears, as it does not hurt the dog.

my dogs ears were up no problem but 2 days ago for somereason his left ear the tip flopped and now one ear is floppy and one is straight up sometimes his left ear goes up but mostly flooppy hes 5 months old black gsd is this normal should i wait 1 month to see what happens???

another tip to try before taping is just a lot of massage. A week of massage to the ear getting the blood to the tips really helps I think. Once the blood starts to flow to the tips the ears figure out what to do. Gently pull them out with the index finger and thumb when your just sitting around together.

@gigglez2111 It is very unhealthy for a german shepherd to NOT have ears that are up, ear wax and other things like dirt can get trapped and cause severe infection, taping helps this natural process happen faster and almost all vets recommend it for growing german shepherds. You are a dumbass for opening your mouth without knowing what the fuck your talking about.

To those who dislike because it is "cruel" consider this. By allowing the ears to flop they get a buildup and require more cleaning. Both the buildup and the cleaning are stressful to the animal. Taping helps the cartilage form and hold the ear up allowing for better airflow making for a healthier dog.

Question, my pup had two huge ticks on one of her ear. Where she had the ticks its a bit swollen. The other ear is getting up there but the one where the ticks were at is not. She is barely 4 months old and I wanted to know if the swelling could affect her ears standing up.

i have been taping my gsd's ears up for a couple weeks now. (taking it off every few days to clean the ears) but its now working, its making them floppier and there are scabs and sores all over her ears.  and now when you go to pet near her ears she moans and shakes her head and moves away.

My GSD had that problem too but it got corrected in time. He was very aggressive due to genetic factors and it took us a while to get him to be nice to the doctor doing this procedure. Now he is a very good boy!

@lipglosscrazy09 there not in pain... if they were you would know they would be wrestling and squeeling. this is a natural way to get a dogs ear to stand up it doesnt hurt not harm them in anyway. most harm would be small cuts due to scratching... yeh its true you wouldnt like it.. but some people pay large amount of dollars for a dog hoping there ears will stick up... atleasts its not needles.. or drugs..

@teddybear4422 GSD have sometimes trouble getting theirs ears to be erect for many reasons 1. because of genes if the father or mother had this problem when young its going to show up in some of the puppies. 2. a bad Diet or Lack of nutrients. 3. Sometimes the cartilage in the ear is not strong enough to support the ear so you have to train it and that's why they have to post the ears. The posting method helps train the ear so that in a month or months they stand naturally erect.

@teddybear4422 well not exactly there is a possibility that the dog is a latte bloomer so maybe latter it will erect the ears naturally, but some need help specially GSD with massive bone structure like the GSD that are above breed standard i know of a guy that has a 6 month old GSD and is the size of a young adult I mean he is just huge results of a Back Yard Breeder well he was having trouble with his ears so i helped him glue them up but the dog is probably going to need some months.

the black thingy is a normal rubber pipe , they used the rubber pipe cuz its not heavy and it will hold the ears up

@Maul767 they didn't crop the pups ears but some GSD have trouble getting their ears up so you have to tape them up or glue them up every expert or reputable breeder of GSD will tell you how to post them up if the pup can get them to stand up by them selves they will help you.

@ZombieHouseFresnoCA a gsd ears will naturally go up with in time but if they are not up when he is 5 to 6 months talk to your vet or go to a gsd forum in the internet ask other gsd owners what they did to get your ears up, you can glue (with special glue) their ears up but not all pet stores sell this you might have to get it from a special supplier or the web i have experience in ear taping since i have Doberman Pinscher that had had ear crops if you have more Q: don't be afraid to ask me.

if your dog is very big, like mine, the ears will take time to go up because all the calcium is going to his/her bones, it won't hurt if you try but remember if it works if you taped them, they would have gotten up naturally but just have taken more time, some dogs take over 2 years for their ears to fully harden, my advice is try, it won't hurt

You both can try , we know of dogs in that age that worked for. It all depends how much of a help they need ... The good thing with our system is that you don't need to use glue or keep the tape for too long, give it 3-4 days and unwrape them , give another day and see if it is working any

But also I have one of my friend and he have an experience in dogs but Im not sure abut hem because he like and love a greatden dogs. Any how he told me just keep it as it is after 4 5 month it automatically will stand the ear by the days. So please I wont your experience of this cases what I have to do?

Look I have a GSD puppy also from my experience the ears suppose to stand while the puppy teething

and the teething process end @ 5 months

so don't worry

but as an advice

I guess u should tab his ear

don't take that risk to wait till it's too late

its funny cause this is the only video that works for both german shepherds and collies all the other videos on youtube or make just for breeds like boxers / dobermans/ great danes breeds like that this is almost the same thing that my husband and i used on our collie's and it works we taped them for the first 5 days then cleaned out her ears and rub them for a while then did it over again its just training the ears to stand right

Yea they can hear, you don't tape them all the way covering the ear hole. I have a german shepherd and she just turned 6 months old. we thought it was to late but we got them to work.
