before making a comment please  understand what an IED really is. It dosent have to be harmful or really big. It's any thing that is impervised and blows up.

it is sandstone in a fire. Sandstone is porous and absorbs water - when it's hot enough, it explode from the steam buildup.

Did you just put an egg under some hot coals? because it actually had a decent reaction for an egg.

while yes this might look or sound weak, its a lot better doing it yourself. the blast blew the coals 10ft out from the pit. at the same time the noise made was louder than a firecracker and could be heard a good distance. sounds like a gun being fired.

Gee, this looks like you buried a green pinecone in some coals. When the sap boils inside it explodes. It is nowhere near as loud as a gunshot or a firecracker (maybe a small one) but it will throw hot coals in all the nearby campers' faces and clothes. What a great way to camp. . .
