  • It is ironic that Clough's poem should have been appropriated for an advertisement by a bank, and a Swiss-based bank at that, given that it was originally intended to give inspiration to the reformists, liberals and revolutionaries who had suffered numerous setbacks in the years up to 1849, when it was first published.

  • A truly superb rendering of exquisite verse by one of the very greatest exponents of the art. What a marvellous voice. Sublime.

  • I love the crescendoing Elgar "Enigma" Nimrod in the background!!!

  • @eponinelee Thanks. I shall be listening to that soon, I hope.

    Here's another soliloquy:

  • Alguien puede decirme qué pieza musical suena de fondo?

    Elgar?

  • @ICHGROLLENICHT2 Hello. Yes, it is by Elgar. The piece is called "Nimrod," and it comes from the suite "Enigma Variations."

  • dude thank you so much, love scofield's voice

  • The UBS adverts are a treasure. Good on them for doing them and to you for posting them.

  • Could someone please explain to me what it means?

  • @globescape "Say not the struggle naught availeth" don't think

effort does not matter..."the sun climbs slowly but westward..look the land is bright "..

things take time and we cannot always see how a cause becomes an effect ...

the sun rising in the east and slowly we look westward and see the bright sun gleaming..... . have faith..strive...we cannot see the result in an instant but it will come!

  • @sunnyrosegarden Thank you very much!

  • Fantastic, although it would have been awesome if they had included the second verse.

  • What a wonderful momento of Paul Scofield and that astonishing voice.

  • Oh!, I never knew that Scofiel made advertisings.

    Thank you for this.
