That's no Basking Shark. Basking Sharks do not have a white underbelly, their are brownish all around. Great White Sharks on the other hand are dark on the top and white at the bottom. This is used for camouflage in order to blend in with the sunlight shining in from above the water so they are harder to spot by prey under them. It also works the other way around so as to hide the shark from prey above them. The shark will blend with the darkness below the water.

It's a great white because, really, there's nothing else it could be, given the area. The snout is too round for it to be a tiger shark, it's way too big to be a whaler (which are probably the most common sharks around the northern beaches), obviously it's not a hammerhead, it's only got one dorsal so it's not a grey nurse.

Looking at the video it only looks to be 3-4m long to me (I don't believe it was 5m as someone estimated). they're lucky it wasn't a "normal" sized pointer LOL.
