This LP was a gift - Christmas 1985. I had just turned 18. While I knew a few tracks from my college radio station - I heard the album all the way through for the first time that night. After a day with family, it was nice to escape to my room for an hour and give it a spin. Combined with the warmth of the holiday and loved ones a few rooms away it was a listening experience that I'll always remember. It's also one of the few 80's pop albums I go back too. Wonderful!
@stanpnepa, what a great memory! Mine's similar---I was back in England visiting friends and ended up in their sitting room, gas fire roaring against the cold, spinning this vinyl over and over again. I loved Langley Park, too. Paddy MacAloon had this quirky writing talent---it sounded just like candy pop at first, but you found yourself sucked in, remembering riffs thirty years later and hunting them down on youtube!
The 80's was a decade of much outstanding pop music. It's great to be able to go back to that time and see and hear them all here. And, for me, to discover a whole bunch of them I never heard or new about back then - like these guys.
What's the name of the piano player? I think he wasn't an official band-member although he can be seen playing keyboards with PS on several live videos.
Yet another of the great, overlooked GENIUS bands of the 80s...alternative pop music with intelligence. This song is a.k.a. "Goodbye Lucille #1." Paddy McAloon: one of the great voices of the 80s, too.
Hello, would like to say that this is a top record. Very well written. A great voice, top 80s tune. If only music of today was still this great!!! A band that can play, their own music and therir own songs too!!!. Top draw end of story!!!!!! Thanx!!!...............
Poetic, beautiful sound and harmonies - so evocative. Takes me back to the best of the 80's: Annie Nightingale's Sunday radio show, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Human League's Dare, Heaven 17, The Chameleons (from Manchester) etc. Good old days.
Because "number 1" is meaningless. it's just sales, sometimes the public makes a great song number one, "Fairytale of new york" for example, mostly crap is number one.
This reminds me of the eighties... Yeah but it is stlll a great song. The years have past since then. Fifteen years and now fourty years. Still a child but also grown up. Fiction Factory so to say. Stay alive!
De longe mas mesmo de muito longe, este é o verddadeiro e unico album dos Prefab Sprout. 5 estrelas!!!!
Intemporal, magnifico, Tem tanto a ver com eles e nada com ninguem que me faz lembrar Sade Adu, pois soa me a qualidade de 1ª águae inimaginavel ver ou ouvir outra pessoa a interpretar estes temas.
AND YOU NEVER MAKE IT UP. OR TURN BACK THE CLOCK. NO YOU WONT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think it's sick that this (and other songs from Steve McQueen/Two Wheels) WEREN'T on the radio, instead of all that other tuneless top forty crap of the day. It's not too often that I hear music that really stirs my soul, and Two Wheels Good is one of those rare albums that did, and still does, too. "Swoon" is also fantastic.
¡Qué hermoso!!!, siempre guardé esta canción en mi memoria y en mi corazón!!!! y esta es la primera vez, después de 23 años, que puedo conocer el video!!!!...... ¡preciosa canción!!!!......
I was dumped once in 1985, I was very broken hearted. Then I discovered PF and this song. You can imagine the impact! Especially the part about "why don't you join the foreign legion"! This album is fantastic. I always thought they should have done more with Thomas Dolby. (BYW, I got me a wife now who beats the crap out of the one who dumped me.)

I think it may be Alan Bates and Hayley Mills. Check out a film called wild is the wind. Hayley Mills is in it, it's about some kids who find a murderer hiding in a barn...yhey think he is Jesus. It's a classic

I first listened to this song circa 1987. Many years went by since then until I've been able to listen to it again thanks to YouTube. Now I can do it time and time again! It's a simple song yet it's got something special, its bass line helped me create a couple of songs of mine. Can somebody kindly tell me what film those scenes were taken from?

Embarassed to admit that I somehow missed this in the 80's (though I was very much into alternative stuff then).
Only recently discovered how good this band was/is and wonder how they slipped under my radar.
And this didn't make number 1 because it didn't suck (sucking was almost a prereq back then).
