A change will come and we will one day reflect on this time as we now do segregation and wonder what we were thinking. Im proud to live in a country that recognizes same sex marriages and hope one day the world will follow suit.
sexy guy =D. very touching speech, its time for LGBT respect. this is ridiculous. theres nothng wrong wiht being ''gay'', ''god'' made you ''gay'', it is proven. genetics y'all. time for ppl to read to get informed about other things than themselves and stupid materialistic things.
To add another point..What about a single mother that had active help from a close friend or relative of the same sex? Isn't that technically being raised by 2 people of the same gender? That is quite a common occurance in today's world isn't it. All a child really needs to grow into a great person is love and compassion. Who cares where that comes from?
@revjepp70 You sin too. Do you think God looks at you in any different light than a homosexual just because you are a "man of the cloth?" You don't know who will go to Heaven. It doesn't say anything about homosexuality in the ten most important rules God laid down for us, those being the Ten Commandments. We should focus on getting those right before we follow any other "rule" God has given us.
@philbegas I was referring to the "laws," or "rules" as I stated, in a religious sense. And, in that case, the Ten Commandments could certainly be considered laws laid down by God. Obviously, men have created the laws we abide by in today's society.
I dont know if agree with what he said, but he spoke eloquently. I had to listen to it twice, and twice i was highly impressed. I'm not for or against gay marriage. It nothing to doing with me. There is a lot of things i dont was to see in the "straight" community. Marriage is between two people and the God they serve and "NO ONE ELSE".
@Mrnmayse I understand your point of view however I have come to realize that in order to protect our own freedoms and rights, we must support those of others whose beliefs we might not hold as dear. I have no inclinations toward homosexual relationship personally, but I find it abhorrent and dangerous to see codification and exclusion applied to the union of two people in a legal sense, because its the first step in a long and slippery slope.
@RevJepp70 With all due respect, your teachings are hateful and exclusionary. Tell me, Reverend, do you enjoy eating shellfish or borrow a loan on interest? Why pick and choose from the 613 mitzvot? Your bronze-age, tribal dogma preaches to hate the sin and love the sinner - that their essence is hateful. You should drop the Bible, discuss and contemplate ethics, and find a new moral compass.
@James87Stephen That is preposterous. So because their beliefs differ from yours means that they cannot practice them in their own daily lives? Quit playing victim, you are losing no rights over this. Nobody is trampling over YOU. Nobody is saying that when same marriage becomes legal you must marry someone of the same sex. Who do you think you are trying to deny somebody else the right to devote themselves to an individual they truly love for the rest of your life?
this is amazing :) i am lesbian and hope to raise kids one day farrrrrrrr from now but i hope to have it so my kid turns out that well-rounded, educated, and simple realize that maybe God and the bible says its wrong, but that doesn't change the fact that JESUS wants us to love all and not judge anyone by what they do or how they live, that's His job. especially since this has to do with love...love just is. thats it...perhaps the need to re-evaluate this term more?
The ignorance from some people still shocks me. By saying that YOUR belief system says marriage is between a man and a womenane that these people should not be wed, it is in fact YOU who is trampling the rights of these americans.
I'm not dissing on America, but for a country so economically advanced and wants to solve the words problems -- well, it appalls me their clarity of thinking still exists in primitive times.
I clapped too! That was incredible! I honestly hadn't given much consideration to voting in favor of gay marriage, just because that was the way I was raised and that's what I believe, though I would never discriminate, because that's what I believe as well (I have 3 gay friends and love them very much), but this speech was so remarkable in it's power and honesty I may have to consider a little more carefully next time I vote. It was beautiful.
This is an absolutely incredible and eloquent speech with so much power. Made me cry ;') Thank god for people like you that are willing to stand up and speak the truth of these situations. Light needs to be shed in the hope to dispel this horrible prejudice.
Incredible speaker. He's nervous, you can tell but he speaks with definite poetry. Im in love with this, glad to see a fellow eagle scout doing good.

That this speech had to be made at all says nothing good about the State of Iowa, or the state of same-sex marriage rights in the U.S. in general.
