  • 1:58 Was that Leonard Nimoy?

  • now i saw and double checked it but they got a clip from twlight zone the movie in there, at 2:44 with that guy from 3rd rock from the sun. now i know they would never play that movie on nick so........why would they place that shot in there?

  • Why did you want to make some of these commercials loud?

  • I first started watching nickelodeon in 1983 when my family first got more than 13 channels. Seeing these commercials brings me back to those days in Albany, NY, the 80s was a great decade!

  • @Albanynyer84 I miss it too.

  • I rember watching concerts on Nickelodeon! Adam Ant, Duran Duran, Split Enz....wow!

  • @cassiepalmer yeah... now the only singing on nickelodeon (its not even concerts anymore) is the stars of the crappy shows.

  • The 90s were the best times to grow up, but the 80s nickelodeon is still better than the nickelodeon today

  • :11 Mr. Wizard made her pants disappear!

  • WTF!! the fuckin kid at 0:11 is in underwear !?!?!?

  • @DoktorRick ??? you can't wear that on television!?

  • @unknownartiste1 Yeah, I prefer older televsion shows instead of this "jersey shore" crap!

  • @unknownartiste1 Im 25, but im i know mr. wizard was doing shows back when tv was in black and white!!!

  • Oh wow I remember that episode of Standby…Lights! Camera! Action! Would loved to have seen the one’s that got cut off but I LOVE THESE THANK YOU!

Anyway I’m hosting a Classic (80’s) Nickelodeon Fan Meet on October 1-3, 2010 and hopefully many more years to come as well. E-mail me here and I’ll send you the link to the official website. I need at least 10 people to buy tickets from me so that I don’t have to cancel it again. Please help me to get this off the ground!!! Thanks!

  • 0:37 - Shorter version of the 1983 Nickelodeon Pinball ID.

  • I bet that Mr.Wizard's world was the Bill Nye of the 90s

  • @chec2002 better than bill nye, mr. wizard was around since the 1950's

  • 1984!?!?!?! Thats the year mai sister was born- I had no idea Nick was THAT OLD! O_O I wonder what it was like back then??

  • Comment removed

  • Hope that nick turns out to be better this new upcoming decade. I hope that nick goes back to being it's original self.

  • Hilarious - an episode of Going Great featuring Jennifer Beals in a film ( Flashdance ) restricted from most of Nickelodeon's young demographic at the time. Unless you had cool parents and they sat with you watching R-rated films ^_^ I've have had cable for well over 27 years and remember most of this stuff. Its great to see some people kept recordings of daily broadcasts from these networks. Filled with nostalgia! Thanks for the memories ^_^

  • I wish they had a Nick 80's and Nick 90's channel. that would be on Basic cable without needing the cable box.

  • @Eric9233 I'd give you ten thumbs if i could for that.

  • Its a swimsuit... Get over it

  • Everything on Nick and Disney and any channel in the 80's looks the same! It's like it was the same 10 people doing everything! I miss the simplistic but genuine feel. I'm amazed Nick cared about Mountain time.

My mom says "No shit, Mr. Wizard" a lot. Does this have something to do with it. I'm pretty sure she wasn't watching Nick in the 80's. Did he have a show in the 60's too?

  • They wouldn't let Mr. Wizard on modern TV. Can't have kids playing with fire, can we? Jeez. I miss these days.

  • Makes you realize how simple minded they think kids are these days. I feel blessed to have grown up in the 80's. Today's kids have no idea how badly they're being shortchanged.

  • two years before my birth. awesome!

  • I remember watching that Ep of "Going Great."

  • What was Going Great about?

  • @Eric9233 It was mainly about empowering teens by showing examples of young people who made it in their profession of choice. If I remember right, and that's a big if...a teen would be featured with a particular interest, and they would meet someone in that field who made it. Kind of, "if they can do it, I can do it too."

  • i was born in the 90's

  • OMG 25 years ago. :(

  • nick was "really happenin in a far out kinda way" back then. what's "going great"??

  • Back during the Silver Ball era the channel's sign off had the National Education Association endorsement. today, not so much. not even Nick Jr can get such an Endorsement

  • No wounder I wanted to play with fire growing up Thanks Mr Wizard

  • Nickelodoen totally changed 100%

  • good times

  • BAHAHAHA...computers...*cough*sry.

  • why was that girl in her underwear at 0:11?

  • Mr. Wizard told her to get into something more comfortable.

  • LOL... that's just not right. Ah God rest Mr. Wizard, we miss your science experiments.

  • Shorts like that were in, in the 80's.

  • lol maybe it was those lil shorts...lol

  • Make your computer burst into color?! Oooooooh...

  • Haha! I was just gonna write the same thing! Why the hell was that kid in her underware anyways?

  • 27:01

  • What's the song at 0:18-0:22?

  • Wow Nickelodoen was so different back than.

  • It's almost over. they should have a Nick rock 80's Block and a Nick rewind channel on a Nick Rewind channel. 6:00 The Smurfs 6:30. DangerMouse 7:00 YCDTOT 7:30 Dusty's Treehouse 8:00 Going Great 8:30 Tomorroe's People 9:00 Mr. Wizard's World 9:0 Third Eye 10:00 Out of Control 10:30 Livewire 11:00 standby.
  • There should also be a '90s Nick Rock channel too. Both '80s and '90s Nick were equally good IMO.

  • @Eric9233 Hey if you’re interested in seeing several classic (80’s) Nick shows I’m hosting a Classic Nickelodeon Fan Meet on October 1-3, 2010 and hopefully many more years to come as well. • The Orange Splat logo debuted in 1985. I don't know what month though.

  • august 16th, 2007 was a Thursday

  • I would give anything for these days back I hate being 30!!!

  • i like the silver ball Nickelodeon logo.

  • I wasn't born yet when these commericals aired. I was born in 1986.

  • Bummer. You missed some good times, kid.

  • Woah...flashdance on nick?

  • Have 1 question, since I wasn't born at this year, how come the title is "You Can't Do That on Television" when they're showing it at TV already,

  • "You Can't.....Television" was basically the first kid show that "crossed the line" with their style of humor. Hence the name.....naughty naughty. Many parents, like mine, did not let their children watch it.

  • Why is the girl at 11 sec in her underwear?

  • They were shorts, actually. Daisy Dukes I think they called them. Those buttcrawlers were actually quite popular then.

  • geez why did i miss these commercials? anyone happen to know what year the classic cartoons on nick premeired?

  • Thanks for making me fee old.

  • Mr. Wizard was cool! He showed you how to burn things and blow stuff up.

  • From what I've read, before 1984, Nickelodeon was known as "Pinwheel T.V." and was not yet availible as a cable network. in '84, MTV brought the network and changed it name.

  • Nickelodeon was launched in 1977 as the Pinwheel channel in Columbus, Ohio on the QUBE cable system (now Time Warner Cable).

During its broadcast day, it would air shows such as Pinwheel, Video Comic Book, America Goes Bananaz, Nickel Flicks and By the Way.

On April 1, 1979, the channel went national when they expanded to another QUBE system in Buffalo, New York.

In 1981, the channel expanded nationwide and was renamed Nickelodeon.

  • Ahhh...Chris Makepeace from "My Bodyguard" fame...R.I.P. Mr. Wizard!! Is there anymore Nick commercials that feature the orange logo?

  • This looks like it could have been like Teen Nick or something :)

  • mr wizards world would NOT happen these days. Fire= lawsuit

  • Why was thet girl in her underwear in th begining??

  • You Know That Episode??

  • NO NO NO

  • Hell, yeah...I remember ALL the shows here, complete w/the old logo and the coming up next bumpers w/the "but first, this!" tagline, not to mention how they used to show airtimes for all 4 time zones in the US during their promos. Talk about a trip down memory lane! :-)

  • lol short shorts at 0:11

  • By The Way.... What Episode was that show & will you Upload it Please??

  • I'm not old enough to have watched any of Mr. Wizard's show, if I did, I don't remember any of it, but who doesn't love blowing things up with Chemicals! By the Way, the part with Leonard Nemoy was odd.... ah well.

  • How much more 80s-cheese can you get than Krull? Seriously, I know "Standby...Lights, Camera, Action" covered E.T., Return of the Jedi, WarGames...but Krull?! Only in the 80s...

  • Were children back then really into the movie "Flashdance"? It seems a little ridiculous that Nickelodeon would air that on a semi-regular basis in the early 80s. I mean, "E.T."...sure..."Star Wars"...fine...but "Flashdance"?

  • Can you measure something without climbing to the top.

  • OMGOSH does that ever bring up some good memories!!! Thank you SOOOO much for posting them! Ya know, I really with that Nickelodeon would just wise up and give us a TRULY CLASSIC (1980s) Nickelodeon channel of our very own. And INCLUDE the retro-mercials like these you have just posted.

And btw, I really hope you post more Classic Nick videos on here, I know a lot of people who would be interested in seeing them!

  • did you actually tape them in the early 1980s when nickeloden still had the pinball logo?

  • so you have tapes at your house of these? How do you get them on the computer?

  • Yes, there are tapes at my house. I have some kind of DVD maker where I connect the gadget to the player and then to the computer and transfers it.
