  • Good information without rambling on about talking points.

  • @tklandess M&P puts glocks to shame. I've owned a glock and these guns are muck better. Feels better holding it and shooting accuracy. Don't get me wrong Glocks are ok guns but I just prefer M&P.

  • great weapon, terrible review. i give you a thumbs down sir. (by the way, what a terrible drawing)

  • The guy, at Smith, that was running the machine that day, must have let one slip by.

I have 3500rds through my 1st M&P 40, and about 2200rds through my other one. Other than the normal usage wear and tear that you expect from normal shooting, my guns look & run great. Picking up my 40c next week. Will take a look at it before I buy, but I have 4 M&P guns... No issues yet. I like them so much, that I rarely shoot my Glock 22 anymore.

  • My M&P .45 doesn't have this issue, nor does the .40 M&P I also own. Contact the factory, they'll be more than happy to remedy the issue free of charge on your weapon.

  • Fuck that thing. Go Glock!

  • my M&P Does not have this problem I wonder if you bought yours earlier than me mine was purchased in 2011. and BTW when you do a close up shot please please please do not use a flash light because cameras always get washed out so basically I couldn't see anything you were trying to show! It just looked white. if you hadn't used the light I could have seen it.

  • Remember, as you said they ARE mass produced but they also have a LIFETIME WARRANTY. I suggest you take advantage of it and I'm sure they will make it right

  • ive got an m&p40 the slide is uniform on both sides but i did get some minto tiny scuffing on the inside of the polmer frame in the same spot you refer ro during the first 100-200 rounds. no big deal the parts just have to mate. after that it has not occured. not a deffect just life

  • Instead of talking to people at the range you probably should talk to people at Smith&Wesson.

  • i have had my m&p 40 for 3years...1500 rounds....the firing pin suddenly broke with no warnings...

  • i have had my m&p 40 for 3years...1500 rounds....the firing suddenly broke with no warnings...

  • I have had my M&P .45 ACP for 1 year, and shot over 1000 rounds as well as dry fire pracice and no issues.

  • This is a non-issue. The slide rides on the 4 guides only.

  • I have the M&P (mm and have fired over 1500 rounds out of if and have had no problems with the weapon system....ever. Must just be a defect in that particular weapon idk.

  • 9,000 rounds and counting... absolutely no problems what so ever! Love the gun (M&P 9mm with APEX trigger/sear kit and RAM since around 6,000 rounds) I'll be buying the .40 S&W next!

  • My .45c has these little ridges on either side. They are very much uniform and identical on either side. They almost look intentional. My pistol only has 100 rounds fired through it but I see no signs of it grooving the polymer frame so far. I would agree that this shouldn't be a catastrophic problem. As far as the rental pistols are concerned, 50,000 rounds would probably cause polymer wear on any commercial pistol out there. I do appreciate the videos concerning this issue. I may not have not

  • my M&P9 does not have any signs this issue. It's been flawless so far

  • Comment removed

  • I've got an M&P .40 with the grooving also. It's not a big deal, it won't affect the performance. Seen some slo mo vids of polymer frames and they flex quite a bit when firing. So the slide is actually making contact with the fore end of the frame. Not to worry though about impeding performance since the slide, slides on the guide rails and not the frame. I'd does suck knowing that it's shaving a groove and you want your piece to be perfect but the gun gets more accurate and smoother every time

  • Recently picked up a M&P 9c March 2011.....no groove issue here? Maybe that was fixed?

  • I like this video, i just ordered the m&p 9 L and this show clearly were to look for problems, you dont se it on the video but People get the idea.

  • just got my M&P 9 today and I do indeed have this problem. doesn't seem too serious though. I think i'll just take my dremmel and file that corner down with a polish or fine grain stone or something. thanks for the info though

  • I am beginning to think all these video about smith and wesson and ruger that say how bad they are all PROPAGANDA FROM GLOCK.

  • 6 minutes and 45 seconds to cover 30 seconds worth of explanation.

  • @evanthemack or a Glock XDs are not bad at all but i like the XDMs better hehe

  • S&W pistol= junk there revolvers are very nice though

  • @masterofnotmuch clearly has never had any experience with the SW 1911. one of the best sears/ disconectors I've ever felt on a 1911, amazing magazines, and over all great gun. Smith and wesson definitely makes great auto and revolver hand guns.

This just happens to not be one of them, the M&P itself is junk.

  • @VivaLaDann ok I'll have to see if i can shot a 1911 one but i worked in a gun shop and fixed a lot more S&W pistol then any thing

  • i also have an M&P 40 and i look at it and i see no problem like the one your experiencing. i have had this gun for about two years and ran about 1500 rounds thru it and have yet to have FTE or FTF great sturdy gun. hope it all works out for ya!

  • @elmajiko420 you are a lucky one then i have seen 3 S&W pistols that work correctly i got fired from the gun store i was working at a few years ago because i refused to sell them and now they don't carry them anymore because of all the returns of them lol

  • I couldn't see the problem, focusing wasn't great and that flashlight just made a large white blob and couldn't see anything. Maybe it's my computer, but its a new dell, but not High Def. Wish I could have seen what you were talking about.

  • I have a M&P 40 and I don't see the problem you are showing.

  • I have a M&P that has the same "problem" but if I wouldnt have watched this video I would never have known.... Not a video worthy "problem" in my books.

  • The Machine doesn't cut the direction you are pointing out on the part. The spot you are pointing out is the problem though. Not the entire high spot just the inside edge. If you would stone A radius on the edge of the high spot ,It probably stop the wear you are having. That is a finish pass of that area of the slide.I have the same problem and my son's pistol also. dmstrmac1

  • I checked mine which now has close to 1,000 rounds through it and I cannot detect the problem you are showing here.

  • Man that was lame. All polymer frame handguns experience some degree of wear and tear, and an M&P is not exactly a showcase gun.

  • dude, first of all your video sucks. lol. and it's CNC, not c&c - computer numerical control, im a machinist and your video blows. Next time do a review were you shoot yourself in the face :P

  • @jeffrp9 dude, first of all your comment sucks. lol. and it's "where", not were - im a normal person and you blow. Next time make a comment that's positive or don't comment at all :P

  • dude, first of all your video sucks. lol. and it's CNC, not c&c - computer numerical control, im a machinist and your video blows. Next time do a review were you shoot yourself in the face :P

  • Can't you just file it down?

  • I had the same problem with mine.. Its one of those things that should just be fixed by S&W and for me its just something that drives me crazy especially on a new firearm. What did you do about your?

  • my only problem is the fact that the extracting shells hit the slide, and wear off the coating a little bit... anyone else have that problem?

  • Same thing on my M&P40.. But no biggie.

  • The slide rides on STEEL which in turn rides in a steel cradle embedded in the plastic frame. The plastic your complaining about has nothing to do with function. My M&P 9C has well over 5000 rounds through it and it still looks and shoots like its new. Don't worry about petty things. Go shoot it and have fun.

  • Its a defect... I would have sent it back first think... im sure S&W would have set you up with a new slide. This is why products have a warranty! keep the good vids coming

  • I have the Smith & Wesson M&P40 and it doesn't have the issue you've described in this video. The slide rides on 4 all metal rails so any rubbing against the polymer would only be cosmetic not a functional issue to worry about anyway. I have over 1,000 rounds through mine without a single function issue either. The M&P is the best polymer pistol series in the world today and in many ways is a much more advanced and up to date design than the competition.

  • @patriotsnfl1 Well said Patriot. The M&P rocks! I have had the same flawless operation as you. about 1,000 rounds no problem, period.

  • @1StepTooFar My M&P 9c is great, no problems whatsoever. Sounds to me like you got a dud that got past quality control, it happens. Stop saying you've heard several people at the range with the same problem. People are like cattle, they fall in line and say whatever they think will allow them to fit in. Stop your bitchin, boy.

  • @1StepTooFar same here...i have put 30,000 rounds in mine...."i love this weapon"...not a single hiccup...i need a new barrel though as it is basicly a smoothbore pistol now as thier is no rifling left in the barrel....

  • @patriotsnfl1 well said but if i spent around $600 on a S&W (i own a glock 17) i would want it to be pristine functionality wise and well as cosmetic, i would not want a problem where a manufacturing hiccup would drive a groove in the gun its self.... it would personally bug me.. great point though.

  • Now if there was a crack in the ejector or extractor or the firing pin was pitting then yes then you have an issue. But looking at this from a Armorers standpoint understand that the MP series application is Offensive/Defensive combat pistol. Function out weighs cosmetics.

  • @TheSquirrel1986 Very true. That's why I haven't sent it back in to S&W. I can deal with it. It's a tool, a duty weapon, and very mass produced.

  • Its a combat defensive/offensive pistol. Were not talking about an expensive 1911, if you want attention to detail go buy a kimber 1911. Understand that when making these firearms in mass production the biggest concern is function. Cosmetics is important but not a huge priority. My Xd and MP and FNH FNP-9 have all had cosmetic issues. My FN take down lever actually gouged my slide within the first 100 rounds. FN makes 90 percent of US small arms.

  • Was that a fluke or a bad batch? I have the 9mm pro with about 700rds so far with only 1 jam but that was crappy ammo. Im looking for a XD sub or Glock sub or a M&P sub 9. leaning to Glock right now

  • @dirtball91 I think it was a fluke on a certain run of them. I haven't noticed it on every M&P and only about 1 in 20 people are commenting that they have the same problem. I highly recommend the sub compact M&P. Wish my full size was just that...

  • Mine did the same thing

  • @Nicho2177 I don't think it's going to cause any problems. Especially not with the polymer frame... But I am concerned that the milling process did not cut the metal slide evenly. There is an obvious spot that was missed when shaving down the curve. I might send it in at some point. What about you?

  • @1StepTooFar Sold it already.. Not that I didnt like the pistol or what was going on with it because S&W told me they would take care of it, but I just didnt need another 9mm sub compact. If I find a good deal on a full size 9mm or 40 I would buy it because I like the grip and recoil and I believe the trigger pull was nice but it could get smoother.

  • Dude, first of all, your video sucks, I can’t see anything you are talking about. Nice touch with the drawing however. I own one of these and I have fired several other M&Ps without this problem. You should send it back to Smith, as it has a lifetime warranty. In past years have found their customer service to be excellent. Turn around time is like 2 or 3 weeks.

  • @GRdeveny Don't get me wrong, I love my M&P and you're right that I should probably send it back to the factory... But don't be all stupid saying my video sucks. Keeping in mind that it was only my second video that I've ever made I'd say it's pretty damn good. And it's funny how you don't even have any videos of your own. Thanks for watching though. My M&P runs flawlessly.

  • jesus christ, these comments need to shoot 10,000 rounds and then inspect the weapon, not 500 hahaha

  • My doesn't have it but that's very unfortunate, thank you for the head up man.

  • how reliable is this gun?

  • @eamonher Works like a charm! It's made as a "duty" gun so cops bet their lives on this weapon every day. It's very reliable. I've yet to have any failures, jams, etc.

  • I just checked mine and after about 500 rounds I don't see anything. The only thing I noticed was there was a slit almost like a crack about 1/2 inch from where the frame thickens. It is on both sides, so I guess it is supposed to be there?

  • I dont think it would be a problem and if it makes cracks or brakes then yes(duh! i know)

  • Did you send your pistol back? Mine is that way also and I dont like it. these pistols to me have issues. Update me on your situation

  • Sand or grind it off? I wouldn't really sit around waiting on the Mnftr for it. Or a gunsmith maybe.

    Not cool, but not huge...

  • Problem with that is if you do anything to your gun or have someone other then S&W or one of the gun smiths on their lists. Do anything to the gun you lose your life time warranty on the firearm. It's not on all of them. I own a Fullsize M&P 40 and a Compact 9 M&P and both of mine do not have this problem. It's not a problem at all police departments across the country are using the M&P with little to no problems.

  • And which company do you like?

  • Just looked at the slide and the frame (M+P40 full size), the two rails look the same, yes it has the slide notches like your video shows. I have been using it at the range approximately every couple weeks since Oct.2009, don't notice any grinding down or wearing down, I clean/oil it approx. every 100 rds.

  • To all: I have shot about 1000 rounds through my gun and have not seen any problems come from this. The groove that was cut in the polymer frame is still the same (has not gotten bigger). However, I am still disappointed in the C&C machining of the slide. There is a definite lip that was not cut down all the way. I have spoke to S&W and informed them about this but without sending in my gun they can't do much. They told me to call back about it later & that they would look into it.

  • Thanks for posting... I am glad issues of this natural are publicly posted. Has Smith and Wesson gotten back with you about this issues?

  • I posted a comment above about what I know. Thanks for asking. If I find out more I'll do an update.

  • Non-issue on my M&P 9mm. Did you ever hear back from S&W?

  • I need to send in my gun to have it checked out by S&W. I contacted them so they know about the problem. However, they couldn't do anything about it at the time. They said to call them back later and that they would try to talk to the engineers. The only way it will get fixed is if I send it in.

  • the company i work for makes the frames for s/w the only thing smith does is put the slide on the farme

  • I have the L model of this gun. It has a 5 inch barrel. I have over 10,000 rounds over my gun and it is still going strong.

  • I checked out my M&P and it does not have this problem, I have fired well over 1000 rounds.

  • Yeah, the same with my M&P. I`ve fired almost 6000 rounds and this is not an issue on my gun.

  • whats up bro, i was pretty concernd when i watched your clip about the grove in your gun, i stripped mine down seconds after watching to see if i had the same problem, and i didnt. I dont know if its from lack of firing "ive gone through about 400-500 rounds". just thought id let you know.

  • I noticed the groove on mine within a few times racking the slide (without firing) and then breaking down the gun so I think you would have seen it by now. Once the groove got cut, however, it seems that repeated firing of the gun actually polished down the mark that it leaves. To be honest it's hard to even see the groove at this point. I can still see the poor milling job left on the metal slide though. Something I'd have to send in to get looked at.

  • Have you contacted S&W on this potential problem? I'll check mine when I do my next field strip tomorrow to see if there is that lip. To me, if it does scrape off material from the frame, it is or will cause a problem further down the line. I got my pistol about 2 months ago too and I really love it. I've put about 300 rounds through it thus far with no problems.

  • Thanks for bringing this up. I'll check my M&P 9 later and see if I have the same issue.

  • Yeah, let me know what you find. I'm curious to see how this affects other people. Seems that it's not isolated to just one or two guns though. Anyone else? Feel free to comment.

  • Sure enough, mine is exactly like yours! I have that lip on the right side of the slide, but not on the left. The left side of the slide has some swirl marks, like it has been machined smooth, but the right side doesn't have those swirls and has the lip. Mine has about 600-700 rounds through it with numerous slide racks while dry firing, and the mark in the plastic is very minor. It's not too deep at all, and only goes for about 3/4" starting at the muzzle end of the frame.

  • Thanks for the info. Like you said, the groove is minor. However, I'd still like to find out why this is happening and hopefully we can help Smith & Wesson resolve it. I'm going to call them and I'll post a video response if I find out anything substantial.

  • @1StepTooFar Did S&W ever rectify that problem? Just saw your vid and noticed the issue on my M&P9
