I don't think Sonata, Camry, and Accord compares to Taurus. Fusion does. Fusion is a mid-size; Taurus is a full size. For a true comparison to the Ford Taurus -- try Hyundai Azera or Hyundai Genesis, Toyota Avalon, Nissan Maxima, and Chrysler 300/Dodge Charger.
Hmm, I don't know I thought a lot of people would buy the new Taurus but it's almost 3 years now and still I rarely see people driving it or it parked somewhere...
I am a Crown Vic owner right now and got to test drive one of these a couple of months ago. I liked the performance and it's a lot of car, and the trunk space was bigger than the CVPI. The one thing I didn't like was the way the AWD handled, where it reacted just a shred too late. The driver's seat can be confining if you are like me, 6'2", 250. The price is also a bit restrictive compared to an H6 Subaru. I am going to wait for the Interceptors to hit the auction block before buying though.
Definitely a car to consider. Compares well to Volvo S60 T6, and probably more than 10k less than BMW 335xi or Audi S4 for cars with similar power, but Taurus has more back seat and trunk, which is important for some folks. Audi A6 is even more $ as would be a BMW but I don't think they make an AWD 5 series for US market.
It's a bit pricey, but i think they did the SHO justice.
I just wish they offered it in a manual, having a twin-turbo V6 with AWD definitely has some sleeper potential.
I'm not sure how the internals are, but I'm sure the average owner could just up the boost slightly and install a catback true dual to give it ~400 all wheel hp.
However, I'm not sure how the drive train is, does it come with an LSD?
I love this new car, but to those of you who havent noticed, the new Taurus is no longer a midsize car, its gotten up to full size status, replacing the Crown Victoria.

@aydog yeah I know, the taurus is a great car, especially since i believe it weighs over 4000lbs. my dad has a 2010 sel, and the only problem with it is the torque steer. and every body has their opinions about what kind of car they want. i personally would prefer a smaller car because for performance driving they are so much better than a large heavy car. far more practical too. hahaha and its funny when people leave ignorant comments on other channels when they dont even have one themselves

@creamyfilling102 people buy cars based on what they individually want and need. im saying that IN GENERAL lighter cars are more practical, economic, and better performing. have you ever been out of america? I really don't like this car. It's way too big, its unnacceptably overweight, and for having 365 hp, it's not that fast either. I don't think this car deserves the letters SHO on it. lol I was just watching the 1989 Motorweek review of the first SHO, then I clicked on this video. I would just love to see the host's face in 1989 if I could travel back in time and show him this
@CrackinVTEC666 huh? dude its not necessary... but i didnt say i didnt like it... and i drive neither of those, and ride a street bike (929) that would blow this cars doors off, bro.
@Konamtbdjc1k twin turbo is the only way its going to get that kind of power from that small v6 and still keep good gas mileage. but the turbos work like an old 4 barrel carb. one turbo is spooled up for normal friving and the other dosent give full boost until you open the throttle. hes wrong about regular gas, they take premium.
@miniimoto95 supposed to be twin. im not sure on the boost. usually single turbos and superchargers run 6 psi but since this is a twin i dont know. both turbos run at the same time but the second one is what really helps it at top end. mabey the ford website has some info. you could contact a tech guy, if you can get in touch with one that isnt indian or something.
The amount of boost is not dependent on the number of turbos. My '87 Daytona Shelby Z's single turbo puts out 12.7 PSI stock. It's all dependent on the size of the turbo(s), and when the waste gate is set to open.
@ytykg yup, i looked everything up, the SHO runs 12 PSI off of a twin turbo set up(meaning they both are the same turbo and reach boost at the same time), not a compound turbo setup like GMCman82 was describing
@ytykg yea i know it has twin turbos, thats why i was saying i dont know how they have it boosted. 6 psi per turbo or 6 psi combined (thats just an example) i dont know how much psi the turbos push. i havent been able to find anything on it.
Make it cheaper, like Camry or Accord prices and you will have a best seller Ford. 25 grand for the base price puts me off of it, although it looks amazing!
@Bigmattster This car shouldnt be an SHO in my opinion. It's too big and overweight. If you dropped this engine in the Fusion and paired it with a 6-speed manual, then called it the Fusion SHO then that would be one hell of a car! That's just what I personally think though
The Taurus in general is stupid. The Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo would blow this away. Too bad they aren't bringing it here. Now they want to shove this down our throats.
@Konformation07 stop bitching and go to europe then, this is an amazing car, however i do agree with the Falcon line needing to be brought to the states, if anything, to diversify ford's lineup
@ADD8oi Before you tell someone to stop bitching, do research. The Falcon isn't sold in Europe, it's Australian and sold in Australasia. I rather drive a Falcon than a wide FWD/Front biased AWD pig without a manual transmission like the Taurus.
@dk4130bmx "think" and "facts" are two different things. IIRC this car puts out better numbers in EVERYTHING other than size than the Crown Vic. The Panther Platform needs to be killed off. It dates back to the 1970's and is just not that great. I like Crown Vics but I can admit when a vehicle is better. My only complaint about this new taurus is the cramped interior for the size of the car.
@tobythesandwich Actually the Crown Victoria brakes much better. Watch the 1991 Motor Weekly roadtest of the Crown Victoria And Grand Marquis and you will see that they take 17 feet less than a Taurus SHO to stop from 60 mph. That and the lack of a proper front seat make the Taurus look pretty awful considering that its 20 years newer than the CV tested. And I would bet any money that a CV would prove far mar reliable and durable over time.
@cortinamatt But the Crown Victoria doesn't come close to offering the safety that the Taurus does. Not to mention braking is still a relative term. The taurus probably weighs not much less than the Crown Victoria. After added safety features and what not. But nothing was said about the handling. and lack of a proper front seat? It's got front buckets. The demand for front bench seats these days is ultimately low. No one really wants column shifts or bench seats in today's market.
@tobythesandwich I'm sure the CV is as safe as a Taurus in real world crashes other than perhaps a side impact. But at least with the CV brakes you are far more likely to avoid an accident. Also a CV is a fine handling car & rides so much better than any harsh riding unibody car i've been in. I can't understand why someone wouldn't want a bench seat, it is so much more practical & comfortable. The new Taurus feels very claustrophobic inside & the lack of a column shifter gives a downmarket feel.
@cortinamatt Not really. They nearly got killed off when the police would crash them and there was a fire risk from the gas tank. Accidents will happen. The CV has horrible oversteer, an underpowered pig, and has a suspension as old as dirt. Bench seats are also unsafe in addition to looking cheap (because they are). And the new taurus DOES feel that way, but it's mostly because it's got a huge console and dash. Column shifters are also cheap too. Name one upmarket car featuring a column shifter
@tobythesandwich All upmarket cars like Lincoln Town Cars and high end Cadillac DTS's have column shift. And all cars hit from behind at those speeds would have a risk of fire. The Crown Victoria has passed higher speed rear impact tests than any other vehicle ever and the modifications police do to the vehicles was found to be at fault in causing fires from rear impacts at very high speed. There is nothing horrible about oversteer unless you don't enjoy driving or are an unskilled driver.
@cortinamatt You do realize the Town Car is used more for fleets and for people to be DRIVEN in than people buying them on their own right? And the DTS is dead. Other than those two now discontinued cars, there's no "luxury" model that offers a column shift. Except for Cadillac's Escalades which are from cost cutting.
As for the handling the Crown Victoria handles like a pig. It's suspension geometry is 25+ years old.
@cortinamatt Compared the reviews. 110ft vs 127ft. 17 feet IS substantial but the SHO is probably much heavier. And the Crown Victoria's nose dives horribly. But the SHO makes a ridiculous amount more HP and gets slightly better fuel economy. Nothing suggesting the handling on the CV is any better.
@tobythesandwich Saying a benchseat is unsafe is nonsense & I guess it is a matter of opinion as to if it is upmarket or not. I think it is upmarket as large luxury cars have always had them & they add comfort & a feel of spaciousness. You are right, the SHO is heavier. Just over 100kg heavier compared to a CV in LX spec. I personally dislike front wheel drive & all wheel drive, it makes for unpleasurable handling in my opinion. Also a poor turning circle, higher maintenance costs & a cheap feel
@cortinamatt No headrests? The seat will deform on one side causing your head to slam into the B-pillar. Yeah, real safe. Upmarket cars never really had bench seats. Mercedes, BMW, Audi, etc have all used Buckets for the last 30 years if not more.
As for FWD/AWD. You're just wrong about that. This isn't a 1980's Dodge Spirit. Higher maintenance cost? Not really. And cheap feel? How? FWD has nothing to do with anything being "cheap".
@tobythesandwich Have you not looked inside a car in the last 20 or more years? Bench seats do have headrests, my Crown Victoria does. I'm not wrong about FWD or AWD, its a matter of taste perhaps. It is fact that it is far more expensive to carry out repairs on FWD & AWD cars, the labour time is always longer due to everything being less accesible. Also CV joints on a steering axle are far less durable than on a fixed axle or a half shaft on a solid rear axle.
@cortinamatt Crown Vics equipped with the bench seat have headrests. But they aren't proper headrests and kinda defeat the purpose when your neck snaps back in an accident. And FWD cars are not more expensive lol. Labor time? Not really. You'd have the same troubles out of a V8 car usually. And CV joints are just as reliable as straight axles now. Your ignorance on this is surprising.
@tobythesandwich They are proper head rests you fool, don't just make stupid assumptions. If they allowed your neck to snap back in an accident they wouldn't achieve the highest rating possible in official head on crash tests. FWD cars are far more expensive to maintain, I work on Chicago Taxi's full time so I know what fails & what doesn't. Also I know how long it takes to carry out different repairs. The only reasons for FWD is to increase cabin space & to cut manufacturing costs.
@cortinamatt lol what kind of argument is that? The Toronado and Rivieras were both FWD. Cord, etc. Yes at first it was a way of cutting costs for some companies in the late 1970's. But it's not that way anymore and your point of view is just ignorant to say the least.
@tobythesandwich How many cylinders a car has has nothing to do with the differences between FWD & RWD maintenance costs so why you would bring V8's into it I don't know. Your ignorance isn't surprising, not at all.
@cortinamatt I didn't bring V8s into it. As for the "highest crash test" of crown vics. They received a "good" rating after 2003, but before 2003 it was only acceptable. And they are rated poor when not equipped with side airbags.
Also your entire view on FWD vehicles is skewed and wrong to say the least. It also costs more to manufacture FWD cars btw.
Ford must be smoking crack..you can get a BMW, Lexus, Acura, or infiniti for that price..and those cars will have far better rresale value down the road.
@tom11zz884 Acura RL isn't as safe neither previous Gen 5 series BMW and you have to step down to an ugly run of the mill 4 doors BMW 3 series at this price to match the performance. BMW has a lot of teething issues with it's twin turbo inline six (over heats easily). Lexus has had many many a recall as of late. Mainstream cars AREN'T investments most intelligent people realize that.
@5959512 Then don't get the standard version if its not enough horsepower for you. For most people buying the standard car 265 will be more then enough.
@vix121 I don't know which would be as quick. If your Grand Prix has rear wheel drive (I know my neighbors Grand Am has front) then I'd stick with the Prix.
I like the styling of this new car although I don't think it suits the Taurus name. I think the mid size fusion would of been better suited to the Taurus name. I also think it should be available with a proper front seat and column shift because that is really putting me off buying one. I just watched a Motor Weekly test on a '91 Crown Victoria and find it incredible that the '91 non performance orientated car stops 17 feet quicker from 60mph than this Taurus. That's hardly progression.
This car is plain and simple the best out there for the money. Best looking full-size sedan by far. All it needs for absolute perfection is the new 5.0 and rear wheel drive. Wow make it like that and it's game over for the competition.
Ford has become hot lately and I do like the new Taurus because Ford has finally made this car exciting again just like the original in 1986 . For those guys who criticize the new Taurus for being to big and expensive, I think Ford made a smart move making the Taurus more upmarket to compete against cars like the Toyota Avalon and the Nissan Maxima and leaving the Fusion as it's mainstream sedan. Besides, it's not the only popular nameplate to move upmarket. The Accord is an example of that.
@highfencejumper Agreed, this car just begs for manual. It will fail without it. Maybe not there are enough idiotic Americans who know nothing about driving.
@waterkeeper03 The 500 IS the Taurus (slightly refreshed design).... and BOTH of the cars (including the Lincolns). READ: "The Ford D3 platform (called P2 by Volvo) is a Ford global full-size car automobile platform. It was designed by Volvo before the Ford purchase and debuted with the Volvo S80 sedan in early 1999.[1] The platform is designed for either front- or all wheel drive with an extended wheelbase option." courtesy of Wikipedia.
@ADD8oi Ford can't seem to do anything on their own these days except pump out the marketing dollars...... most of their tech, with the exception of their F-series trucks comes directly from their former affiliates' (Mazda, Volvo)
@OverlyExcitedNewJack why wouldnt you use tech that you developed? volvo is no longer with ford however mazda still is...in part, but ford mostly designed or oversaw the developement on the tech used in their lineup today
@ADD8oi Simply not true. Ford had ZERO engineering involvement in the Mazda G-series chassis, which underpins the Fusion, and which Ford has used in Mazda-plant built rebadged 626's, 323's, Probe etc for their intl lineup since the 70s!!! The Duratec 4 cylinders are 100% Mazda engineered. Ford has rights to cast and use the Dtec I4s by supplying MAZDA with OEM components like ignition systems, TBs, and other ancillaries. Ford invested MONEY in Mazda engineers, but that's paid them back 1000 fold
@ADD8oi Also, now that Ford has the Mazda L and Z engines to develop (old tech to Mazda, who's moved onto the HCCI P-engine aka Skyactiv), Ford cut Mazda loose, they hold less <2% stake atm. Soon as Ford lost controlling interest (less than 33% in Japanese law), Mazda's engineers quickly manifested Skyactiv tech, which simply BLOWS ANYTHING FORD HAS out of the water. Mazda is not a sales wizard, never have been, but they've always been an engineering powerhouse, and Ford knew it.
@buzman1985 "And why would it matter if it did"...asking the same question right after allegedly answering it? Here's some definitive facts: Yes, it uses a Volvo chassis, which Volvo designed before Ford bought them. You can find this fact easily on google. Secondly, why does it matter? It matters because Ford is a lazy fucking company. For the amount of money they profit, and amount of resources they have to play with, they do relatively jack shit but fiddle and redress others' engineering.
@teamlaguna the base model has a v6 which in my opinion should not even be an option when the name of the car is Pontiac G8. and its not even an american car. made by Holden
It will continue to SHO out on its competitors. I think this car will get a boost in 2012 to give it more grunt but it is a awsome car. Great job FORD with your cars and trucks.
Love this car. But the rear is just ass-ugly. No pun intended. The rest is very handsome inside and out. Not a fan of the 300C proportions though. You feel like you're 4' tall sitting in this car because of the high belt line. Otherwise I really like this new Taurus.
so the sho 3.5L gives the power of a v8 as well as the same gas mileage as a v8?

@Konamtbdjc1k twin turbo is the only way its going to get that kind of power from that small v6 and still keep good gas mileage. but the turbos work like an old 4 barrel carb. one turbo is spooled up for normal friving and the other dosent give full boost until you open the throttle. hes wrong about regular gas, they take premium.
GMCman82 11 months ago
@GMCman82 yea its cool
Konamtbdjc1k 11 months ago
@GMCman82 wait so it's twin or compound turbo? what you're describing is a compound turbo set up
what boost are these pushing stock?
miniimoto95 11 months ago
@miniimoto95 supposed to be twin. im not sure on the boost. usually single turbos and superchargers run 6 psi but since this is a twin i dont know. both turbos run at the same time but the second one is what really helps it at top end. mabey the ford website has some info. you could contact a tech guy, if you can get in touch with one that isnt indian or something.
GMCman82 11 months ago
@GMCman82
The amount of boost is not dependent on the number of turbos. My '87 Daytona Shelby Z's single turbo puts out 12.7 PSI stock. It's all dependent on the size of the turbo(s), and when the waste gate is set to open.
The SHO has twin turbos.
ytykg 11 months ago
@ytykg yup, i looked everything up, the SHO runs 12 PSI off of a twin turbo set up(meaning they both are the same turbo and reach boost at the same time), not a compound turbo setup like GMCman82 was describing
miniimoto95 11 months ago
@ytykg yea i know it has twin turbos, thats why i was saying i dont know how they have it boosted. 6 psi per turbo or 6 psi combined (thats just an example) i dont know how much psi the turbos push. i havent been able to find anything on it.

Bigmattster 1 year ago
@Bigmattster This car shouldnt be an SHO in my opinion. It's too big and overweight. If you dropped this engine in the Fusion and paired it with a 6-speed manual, then called it the Fusion SHO then that would be one hell of a car! That's just what I personally think though
97I30T 9 months ago
The Taurus in general is stupid. The Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo would blow this away. Too bad they aren't bringing it here. Now they want to shove this down our throats.
Konformation07 1 year ago
@Konformation07 stop bitching and go to europe then, this is an amazing car, however i do agree with the Falcon line needing to be brought to the states, if anything, to diversify ford's lineup
ADD8oi 1 year ago
@ADD8oi Before you tell someone to stop bitching, do research. The Falcon isn't sold in Europe, it's Australian and sold in Australasia. I rather drive a Falcon than a wide FWD/Front biased AWD pig without a manual transmission like the Taurus.

Cars are sure getting uglier. And I thinkt he P2 Panther Crown Vic handles and brakes better.
dk4130bmx 1 year ago
@dk4130bmx "think" and "facts" are two different things. IIRC this car puts out better numbers in EVERYTHING other than size than the Crown Vic. The Panther Platform needs to be killed off. It dates back to the 1970's and is just not that great. I like Crown Vics but I can admit when a vehicle is better. My only complaint about this new taurus is the cramped interior for the size of the car.
tobythesandwich 1 year ago
@tobythesandwich Actually the Crown Victoria brakes much better. Watch the 1991 Motor Weekly roadtest of the Crown Victoria And Grand Marquis and you will see that they take 17 feet less than a Taurus SHO to stop from 60 mph. That and the lack of a proper front seat make the Taurus look pretty awful considering that its 20 years newer than the CV tested. And I would bet any money that a CV would prove far mar reliable and durable over time.
cortinamatt 1 year ago
@cortinamatt But the Crown Victoria doesn't come close to offering the safety that the Taurus does. Not to mention braking is still a relative term. The taurus probably weighs not much less than the Crown Victoria. After added safety features and what not. But nothing was said about the handling. and lack of a proper front seat? It's got front buckets. The demand for front bench seats these days is ultimately low. No one really wants column shifts or bench seats in today's market.
tobythesandwich 1 year ago
@tobythesandwich I'm sure the CV is as safe as a Taurus in real world crashes other than perhaps a side impact. But at least with the CV brakes you are far more likely to avoid an accident. Also a CV is a fine handling car & rides so much better than any harsh riding unibody car i've been in. I can't understand why someone wouldn't want a bench seat, it is so much more practical & comfortable. The new Taurus feels very claustrophobic inside & the lack of a column shifter gives a downmarket feel.
cortinamatt 1 year ago
@cortinamatt Not really. They nearly got killed off when the police would crash them and there was a fire risk from the gas tank. Accidents will happen. The CV has horrible oversteer, an underpowered pig, and has a suspension as old as dirt. Bench seats are also unsafe in addition to looking cheap (because they are). And the new taurus DOES feel that way, but it's mostly because it's got a huge console and dash. Column shifters are also cheap too. Name one upmarket car featuring a column shifter
tobythesandwich 1 year ago
@tobythesandwich All upmarket cars like Lincoln Town Cars and high end Cadillac DTS's have column shift. And all cars hit from behind at those speeds would have a risk of fire. The Crown Victoria has passed higher speed rear impact tests than any other vehicle ever and the modifications police do to the vehicles was found to be at fault in causing fires from rear impacts at very high speed. There is nothing horrible about oversteer unless you don't enjoy driving or are an unskilled driver.
cortinamatt 1 year ago
@cortinamatt You do realize the Town Car is used more for fleets and for people to be DRIVEN in than people buying them on their own right? And the DTS is dead. Other than those two now discontinued cars, there's no "luxury" model that offers a column shift. Except for Cadillac's Escalades which are from cost cutting.
As for the handling the Crown Victoria handles like a pig. It's suspension geometry is 25+ years old.
tobythesandwich 1 year ago
@cortinamatt Compared the reviews. 110ft vs 127ft. 17 feet IS substantial but the SHO is probably much heavier. And the Crown Victoria's nose dives horribly. But the SHO makes a ridiculous amount more HP and gets slightly better fuel economy. Nothing suggesting the handling on the CV is any better.
tobythesandwich 1 year ago
@tobythesandwich Saying a benchseat is unsafe is nonsense & I guess it is a matter of opinion as to if it is upmarket or not. I think it is upmarket as large luxury cars have always had them & they add comfort & a feel of spaciousness. You are right, the SHO is heavier. Just over 100kg heavier compared to a CV in LX spec. I personally dislike front wheel drive & all wheel drive, it makes for unpleasurable handling in my opinion. Also a poor turning circle, higher maintenance costs & a cheap feel
cortinamatt 1 year ago
@cortinamatt No headrests? The seat will deform on one side causing your head to slam into the B-pillar. Yeah, real safe. Upmarket cars never really had bench seats. Mercedes, BMW, Audi, etc have all used Buckets for the last 30 years if not more.
As for FWD/AWD. You're just wrong about that. This isn't a 1980's Dodge Spirit. Higher maintenance cost? Not really. And cheap feel? How? FWD has nothing to do with anything being "cheap".
tobythesandwich 1 year ago
@tobythesandwich Have you not looked inside a car in the last 20 or more years? Bench seats do have headrests, my Crown Victoria does. I'm not wrong about FWD or AWD, its a matter of taste perhaps. It is fact that it is far more expensive to carry out repairs on FWD & AWD cars, the labour time is always longer due to everything being less accesible. Also CV joints on a steering axle are far less durable than on a fixed axle or a half shaft on a solid rear axle.
cortinamatt 1 year ago
@cortinamatt Crown Vics equipped with the bench seat have headrests. But they aren't proper headrests and kinda defeat the purpose when your neck snaps back in an accident. And FWD cars are not more expensive lol. Labor time? Not really. You'd have the same troubles out of a V8 car usually. And CV joints are just as reliable as straight axles now. Your ignorance on this is surprising.
tobythesandwich 1 year ago
@tobythesandwich They are proper head rests you fool, don't just make stupid assumptions. If they allowed your neck to snap back in an accident they wouldn't achieve the highest rating possible in official head on crash tests. FWD cars are far more expensive to maintain, I work on Chicago Taxi's full time so I know what fails & what doesn't. Also I know how long it takes to carry out different repairs. The only reasons for FWD is to increase cabin space & to cut manufacturing costs.
cortinamatt 1 year ago
@tobythesandwich FWD does feel cheap, its always used on cheap compact cars to make up interior space.
cortinamatt 1 year ago
@cortinamatt lol what kind of argument is that? The Toronado and Rivieras were both FWD. Cord, etc. Yes at first it was a way of cutting costs for some companies in the late 1970's. But it's not that way anymore and your point of view is just ignorant to say the least.
tobythesandwich 1 year ago
@tobythesandwich How many cylinders a car has has nothing to do with the differences between FWD & RWD maintenance costs so why you would bring V8's into it I don't know. Your ignorance isn't surprising, not at all.
cortinamatt 1 year ago
@cortinamatt I didn't bring V8s into it. As for the "highest crash test" of crown vics. They received a "good" rating after 2003, but before 2003 it was only acceptable. And they are rated poor when not equipped with side airbags.
Also your entire view on FWD vehicles is skewed and wrong to say the least. It also costs more to manufacture FWD cars btw.

Roushfan5 10 months ago
I like the styling of this new car although I don't think it suits the Taurus name. I think the mid size fusion would of been better suited to the Taurus name. I also think it should be available with a proper front seat and column shift because that is really putting me off buying one. I just watched a Motor Weekly test on a '91 Crown Victoria and find it incredible that the '91 non performance orientated car stops 17 feet quicker from 60mph than this Taurus. That's hardly progression.

@ADD8oi Ford can't seem to do anything on their own these days except pump out the marketing dollars...... most of their tech, with the exception of their F-series trucks comes directly from their former affiliates' (Mazda, Volvo)
OverlyExcitedNewJack 10 months ago
@OverlyExcitedNewJack why wouldnt you use tech that you developed? volvo is no longer with ford however mazda still is...in part, but ford mostly designed or oversaw the developement on the tech used in their lineup today
ADD8oi 10 months ago
OverlyExcitedNewJack 10 months ago
