My brother has a new WRX....in white. He had an SER for years. I own an '09 Accent SE hatchback, which he likes. He calls it a "badass little buggy" He says my Accent is nicer than his SER was, and it's more fun to drive in the twisties.
How about you compare a 09 SER to your 09 Accent. And when it come to the VW, Hyundai accident is no where close to the build quality. I can tell you 100% that even your 09 can't be compared to an MK2 or MK3 VW golf.
You have never been in an Accent SE. The reviewer has, and so have I. The build quality is excellent. You have no real basis for comparison. I never made a comparison to the SER, my brother did. You said the Accent shouldn't be "mentioned in the same sentence", as though those cars were entirely different. The Accent SE is a subcompact, in a different price range, but the only substantial difference is raw horsepower. It does everything these other cars do, just more slowly.
Dude, i know you are defending your ride, and you have all rights to do so. and yes, all cars are transports in the end. But don't get it twisted. If you ever been in VW 09 rabbit for example, you will quickly realize the difference is more than just raw power. The Accent does not even have anything on the Honda fit, so I don't see how it is at all possible for it to be mentioned with the likes of MINI, SIR, SER, GTI or WRX. what's next, they gonna add a turbo and compare it to Nissan GTR?
the VW gti starts at 7k higher than the accent. and the golf starts at almost 4k higher. you get what you pay for.
also, the build quality is pretty nice. hyundai ranked third in initial quality a few years back i know, right behind lexus, which was behind porshe. (vw) so its basically the same quality per dollar spent.
I'm sorry, but there is no way the Accent SE is nicer than the Sentra SER. I love the Accent, but the interior is totally inferior as is the performance. You're comparing a 1.6L to a 2.5L. I do think the Accent SE is much better looking though.
This review sucks. He names it's attributes being the warranty, safety, and fuel economy. Here's the problem, Hyundai doesn't like honoring its warranty, so it's pretty much pointless that it's 10yrs/100k miles. It got the lowest safety rating of all subcompact cars. As far as fuel economy, after visiting my local Hyundai dealer I noticed the Accent is rated 1mpg LESS highway at 32mpg than the larger Elantra at 33mpg. This review also sucks because he compares a $15k Accent to $20k cars.
Wrong. He give props to the car for handling "this car really sticks" he said. No one "likes" honoring warranties, but I have two Hyundai and I have no warranty complaints. It depends on the factory rep and the dealership. It isn't true that the Accent get the lowest safety rating either, it depends on which institute is rating, and what kind of test it is. The Yaris and others have gotten bad ratings in some crash simulations, just like the Accent. The Accent gets 35 mpg freeway.
The particular Accent I looked at in 2009 was rated 32mpg highway according to the window sticker. I looked at an Elantra same day, which was rated 33mpg highway. This is right off the window sticker, not my imagination. The ratings on the 2009 models are higher I noticed. As far as the warranty, Hyundai/Kia have a lot of complaints from owners about not honoring their warranty. I havn't had this issue with my Kia, but I've read so many complaints online that it's obviosuly a problem.
