  • I know there are allot of people who think the SMG Is garbage. But iv been on many forums with people who Like the SMG Much better then the Manual. Just drive them both

  • Owner must have been rough on the interior. I've had my 2001 330i since 2002 and the interior is still immaculate. I'd imagine the m3's are even higher quality material.

  • These have been my favorite cars for a long time. Still want a 2004 M3.

  • that smg transmission is s***, no offence

  • The interior isn't due to the material being cheap, its due to the negligence of the owner. I have an 01 Laguna seca 120k miles, and it looks nothing like that, brand new...these "car guys" should know that a lot of the upkeep is dependent upon the owner..

  • I will be buying one these cars in a few months, but not sure if I should opt for convertible with a hard top, will it handle better with hard top or will it still be a bit Woolley.

  • @MrStickyfingers22 Still a bit Woolley. There is more flex occurring with the vert vs the coupe. Go for a test drive in the vert, the vert hardtop, and the coupe... then see which you like better.

  • yeah but come on its still not as much fun as the m3 evo

  • gotta love this e46 M3. I have the same car like the one in this video. You have to drive this m3 first before you make any remarks about the car. You will be surprised!!

  • T-shirt in the pants?? ohh come on man :)

  • I've always loved the M3 with a passion, I was lucky enough to purchase a 2003 68k miles 6 speed manual M3 coupe in Mystic Blue, light grey leather and very loaded for £13,000. What a beautifully engineered car. Perfect drive, incredibly comfortable and very powerful. A good friend of mine was trying to talk me into an E39 M5 or a Porsche 911 Carrera, he then purchased an M3 "granted it was a CSL" and then apologised to me for totally underestimating the M3. His words were and I quote "it just

  • Thinking about trading my 2000 M5 in for an 06 M3. I'd figure the smaller car would be more fun to drive being that I have useless back seats.

  • Really have enjoyed all of your videos so far. The reviews are accurate, unbiased, and paint a clear picture for viewers. The quality of the videos are great...everything from the angle of the cameras to the crisp, defined sounds of the cars themselves. As an E46 M3 owner (6 SPD), I can relate to most of the experience you have described here and this is has to be one of, if not, the best review of an E46 M3 for folks curious about jumping into one of these cars.

  • Just got an 03 E46 6MT and I'm digging it. Laguna blue

  • great review, great scenery too!

  • the old M3 looks like a joke compared to the new M3. cheapo bumpers and pillars, ugly wheels, outdated front fascia, etc.

  • this video is brilliant! i just sold my 54 silver grey m3 coupe and will be buying another end of 2012! love these cars!

  • i find it said that my 54 year old mother cant drive a stick and i can and now that i think of it i only know 3 other people that can drive a stick

  • Finally this is something that is comparable to Top Gear.

  • One thing to remember when driving an SMGII M3 is not to drive it with the AC on or the computer will send false codes to the system believing is over heating and making the *!* light come up n also making the transmission 10-15 seconds neutral.

Thats why I sold mines for a 6-Speed Manual =)

  • If I were to buy a used M3 in the near future, it would be an E90. Supposedly they are more reliable than other M3s, and the V8 is too good to describe. I probably would move to Germany first. There is just nowhere in the USA to properly enjoy an M.

  • The best option is to drive the SMG in manual mode and you have no trouble. You can use the paddles or the lever and change up and down like a normal gear box just without the clutch. It even blips the revs either downshifting or up. Personally I think its a brilliant gear box, you have up to 6 options for the speed of the changes and the launch control will have you spinning the back wheels right through to second gear.

  • Oh wow I just saw you guys have uploaded a bunch of videos! Yeah, YT really sux with this new layout and it's causing me to miss many of my favorite subscriptions.

Are you guys part of the new DRIVE thing coming out next year?

  • My only problem with the M3 is the sheer amount of douche bags who drive them. While M3's are respectably great cars, the owners just act like they're the best fucking thing since sliced bread. Always running their mouths about the "quality" and "German Engineering". But even then, it isn't the cars fault that it's mostly owned by arrogant douche holes that runs that hole in their face. M3's are not bad cars, but I wouldn't own one do to (NOT ALL) but some of the owners who drive them.

  • @krocialblack I feel like more Audi driver's are doing that nowadays. Not trying to hate on Audi's or anything, but they keep saying how it's the underdog German car, and how it beats up the rest. I do agree though, some BMW driver's can be douchebags.

  • Where is part 2? Did they take the car back?

  • I wanna say thank you to you guys this was a great review this is my dream car it has been since i was 11 years old and since i saw it the first time i just purchased mine in alpine white with black leather interior i also took it in a manuel on yours trully recommendation and i have no regret so thank you for the info it was very appreciated keep up the great review :)

  • Brilliant review wish my one was as good as yours

  • Good job on this video guys!

  • Love the reviews guys! Just incase you need suggestions: how about a generational comparison on used Corvettes? I'd love to see you guys do a "bang for the buck" used Sports cars under $25k also... C5, 3000gt, Supra... and so forth.

  • Best ///M3 IMO,...

Will become a true classic, specially the 2006 Comp. Package with 6 speed manual transmission!

  • I've been watching this show for well over a year now and I've never thought to ask you: What cars do you guys own? Not your commuter cars, your fun cars.

  • This was the most Epic review i have ever watched on youtube. I think its becuase i own a E46 M3 but god it made me feel epic !!!!!

Honestly, Everyday driver the respect and love i have for you guys is astronomical !!

  • top geat uk is way better than this.

  • @V1T4L1 - Well, of course it is! Top Gear UK is in a class by themselves and operates with an enormous budget and staff.

We aren't trying to compete with TGUK in any way. But thanks for watching and we hope you see more of what we do.

  • @V1T4L1 meant Top Gear....sorry about the spelling

  • "The M3 the is UNQUESTIONABLY an enthusiasts car."

    "No question..."

    LOL you guys are great!

  • love this car. and thats steel grey btw...

  • Only thing I got about this review is it takes a LONG time to fully understand and master how the SMG transmission works. It takes a lot of patience to master up shifts below 4k rpm without terrible sounding clunk, but once you do, it's amazing.

  • ED, have you driven the previous M3 (the boxy one)? I like it better, the e46 seems too twitchy to me. The old M3 felt more like a genuine M car (think original M5)

  • phils camera was either off focused or the car shook a lot, which one was it guys?

  • @5bishop5 - You mean Paul's in car camera? Sadly we did have a focus drift issue during a portion of his interview. There's always something to improve on!

  • @EverydayDriver yeah i noticed, but its alright the video was still good. great reviews guys!! keep up the good work!!

  • I have a BMW 325XI E46 and I love my car :) okay, i will buy a M3 but I need more money haha :) The video is beautiful ! respect. BMW ///M Power. Grezz from Switzerland

  • I'm not sure if buying a used BMW is a good thing. The maintenance is very expensive even if nothing breaks down. If I lived in America and I wanted to buy used, I'd just buy American as domestic cars are so cheap to fix there, it's incredble.

  • @sspope who told you that? domestics in this price range are just as costly as a bmw if you do your maintenance with the dealership.

  • cant wait for part2 of this video

  • @igaryy

Next part would be about the e92 which to me is where it became less of a drivers car therefore not soo special

  • @TheVtieg6 i really like the e92, im actually thinking about getting it certified pre-owned. the only thing i really dont like about it, is that it basically looks like any other 3 series

  • @igaryy

Ive not driven the e92 m3 but from what i heard its too soft which makes it less of a drivers car

  • completely disagree about the color. That grey is astonishing.

  • I think E46 M3 is just sooo classic.

  • E46 M3 has been my Dream car since 2001 and 2 weeks ago i picked up my 2002 Imola E46 M3 manual <3 my prayers have been finally answered i LOVE these cars

  • Where was this shot? The scenery is beautiful! I'd love to drive there.

  • buying an 11 grand used m3 is a task best left to the idiotic i see nice e46s in the mid to low 20s all the time. definitly worth it this car is a furture classic and will probably be highly collectable as it is the last of the square boxy m3s.

  • Love the gauge cluster, better than my 335.

  • EveryDayDriver you guys do the best reviews, with your honest opinion after the wow effect other car reviews have. I enjoy watching your reviews and feel as if I have driven the car. Keep the videos coming please. Thanks.

  • @GrenEggz - Thanks very much, we're flattered. We definitely want to give a sense of what it's like to drive these cars, so it's great to hear that's working for you.

  • In the E46, how is the reliability as far as anything else besides the transmission???

  • Boring interior: yes. Porsche woke up recently about that.Cant you just leave this smg in D?

  • @Krycek2008 - Yes, you can leave the SMG in D. And it really doesn't help - odd clunky shifts one moment, perfectly normal the next. The owner of this particular M3 told us he still fights with his SMG.

  • @EverydayDriver - I own an e46 M3 smg, and I'd say "D" or actually "A" is terrible, The SMG (accelerator) needs to be driven like it's a manual. "A" makes this harder. There's a learning curve on an SMG just like a manual, it's just not as obvious it needs to occur so people winding up slamming the SMG before mastering this curve. (not that it's perfect, nor is the manual though)

  • @EverydayDriver I wonder if this particular SMG needs servicing or if thats normal to clunk.

  • @bramblecino

It's pretty standard for it to act like that.

The problem is in the way you drive it. When you are high in the rpm you can and should change gear without lifting but down low you have to lift the gas when shifting just like a manual. (the SMG is a manual, only the clutch is automatic)

At low rpm it takes more time to change because the rpm drop slowly so if you don't lift the gas when shifting the SMG has to cut the power for longer and the change won't be smooth.

  • Good review. no one reviews old car that still is good, sadly

  • Nice! E46s and E30s are my favoriteee :)

  • This is my dream comparo. Can't wait for the 92. You guys are terrific and define what the real world driver is looking for. Thank you so much!

  • Looking forward to the next video in 2012 (:

  • @mazda6tuner99 - Nope. You'll see it before Christmas.

  • 11k for a E46 M3? Only a POS one. I see them typically in the 18 to 25k range still. As for the SMG, yes it has its issues. I recall 6 settings for the tranny. Good car and it can get mid to high 20s if driven on freeway.

  • I see a hair cut coming

  • You could have a ZO6 Vette instead. More reliable, cheaper to fix, better performance.

  • @ndyt

The Z06 has a rubbish interior and only 2 seats

  • @TheVtieg6 The M3 is horribly expensive to maintain, the interior isn't great for the price (look at how this one was falling apart!) and the back seat of the tudor is cruel for anyone more than 6 years old. Used German luxury sport cars arent cheap because the owners want to get rid of them because they are bad, they are cheap because they are out of warranty.

  • @EatmyDust1311

All high performance engines that rev to 8k+ rpm are expensive to maintain except Honda. As for interior my friend bought a 2002 e46 model with cream leathers and everything was in perfect condition except slight wear on the seats because it done 90k on the clock. Sports coupe usually lack rear leg room but for adults the m3 is fine for short journeys unless your fat. All cars that are expensive to run lose value really quicker

  • @TheVtieg6, Yes, it does. Would still take it over the BMW.

  • Needs NFS Most Wanted Livery ;)

  • I had a 1995 325is. The car felt, drove, and handled like a riding lawn mower at regular speeds. But on the highway it tightened up and I felt confident to go fast. It impressed the ladies because it was red with black leather interior with walnut trim and looked very high class yet very sporty. What almost the same feeling but want to spend 10K to 20K less? Buy a Maxima. :-) LOL Only if it were a rear wheel drive car though.

  • this place looks stunning! What city is that?

  • I agree about the styling. It's my favorite M3 as well. And I actually like it in grey.

  • Every month driver!

  • Real fans watch in 1080p

  • 7:14 Next Month*

  • I meant E90 ok...

  • Damn cool video of a damn cool car! Can't wait for the E92 M3 review!

  • In my opinion the E46 was the best 3 series model ever made. I have just bought one and I can tell you it is superbly well balanced and drives like a dream. A real enthusiast's car. I hope to own an M3 one day in a manual gearbox.

  • Comment removed

  • what is he talking about??? gunmetal gray looks bad ass

  • E36 is my favorite M3, you guys should do a review on one!!

  • Nice work guys!

  • E46, the best one made so far

  • I'm not much of a BMW fan but i loved the M3 and was about to buy one but price wasn't right.

  • No E30 or E36 ? :(

  • I have no idea what numb steering feels like, most all my cars have been bmws

  • I think this was Bangle's finest design. Though that's not saying much.

  • That is seriously a beautiful place to take a car for a spin. Great video as always, guys.

  • best car reviews on the net

  • @kingalias - That's a huge compliment. Thank you!

  • You should put next month at the end of videos instead of next time, it gives me the false hope that the next episode is coming soon.

  • It's sad that the E46 can be had for 11k, those kind of prices are going to ruin the car. You need at least that amount just for upkeep.

  • OH yes. That was my first car obsession aside from the Evo VI.

  • Yes, a review for m3

  • thank u soooo much for this review i love the e46 m3 and i will be owning one soon in the future just wish i could get smg oh well stick shift is fine too

  • can never go wrong with an M3 :)

  • can you get your hands on the earlier generation, the E30?

  • @touge242 If you wanna fight some teenagers for one, have at it. I'd rather have this or the E36 coupe. So much better looking.

  • As of right now, the E46 is my favorite M3

  • The newer is too soft

  • "It feels expensive" LOL all that dasboard and centre console is plastic with mediocre audio controls.

  • Great reviews

  • Such a sweet car. Great review, would watch again.

  • e46 m3 is supercool. manual ofc

  • EveryTwoMonths Driver.

  • @Buli0n Cant blame em dude. I'm pretty sure they are on a tight budget, and its pretty amazing how they got hook ups for M3's

  • @Buli0n way to be original commenter.

  • @Buli0n gotta wait another month for part 2

  • @Buli0n - Don't worry... part 2 will be up before Christmas!

  • steering feel is good though.

  • I am not digging the chrome rims on that car

  • !!

  • In which state did you film all this?

  • My favorite M3 of all time.

  • this is your best video to date. i looooooooooooove the E46 M3 :) thank you for doing it justice

  • sinapses.**

  • Other than the transmission errors, how is the reliability of it? From what I've heard BMW's are really unreliable and break very often

  • @Ericbuyslunch BMW sensors and window motors go out after 100k miles, engines and transmissions are bullet proof. I purchased a 1998 BMW 740iL in 2003 with 41k miles. It now has over 242k miles and is still going strong, the only things I have replaced are sensors and window motors. BMW's are built with something called "limp home mode", so if something goes wrong you won't get stranded. BMW's are addicting, once you own one you won't replace it with anything else, but another BMW

  • @pelepihuamo Huh, yeah an m3 would probably be a car in my realistic dream garage (cars I can actually buy) I guess it's just lucky and getting a car that has good parts, my experience with bmws is that they break (never owned one but some friends of mine have)

  • love that M3 one day i hope to own one

  • MY BABY <3

Seriously. The name of this car is like my password to everything....

    o.O ...whoops.

  • Fifth! Fantastic car indeed.

  • lovely car

  • third

  • SECOND.
