I don't know who he was, but for the time, that's a pretty good sounding or mastered sono !! I find Mr Kogan violin less interesting on the richness of timbre !!!!
Its a great recording, and Michaeel Rabin was remarkable, but i feel sorry that he was not able to Blossom into a violinists that had a child hood, and played because he had the natural liking. I wish people would start their children off so soon, no matter what they wont be a prodigy if they desire the dream or the natural ability, or they wont even make it in the violin world if they dont have the desire.
@4LX1M1K I think Kavakos is the greatest violinist before the public today and one of the greatest of all violinists, right up there with Heifetz and Rabin.
and remember that this is a true performance. NO splicing of any kind done in 1950. I'm sure he played it 2 or 3 times and simply chose the best take.
all hail michael rabin. it is such a shame that he passed so early in life. i bought this cd when you had to claw and scratch to find ANYONE that could order this for you (before the internet was here). you must truly listen to all of his work to appreciate what he had to offer!
Unbelievable. I personally prefer this to many others simply because of the clarity this kid gives each note.

Its improper to speak about other violinists when MR (at the age of 12-13!!!!!) is playing. This was a prodigy of prodigies. Show respect.

I think I read somewhere that he was actually 12 when he recorded these. If he WAS 12 then this is simply incredible. If 14, then STILL incredible!

Rabin was Galamian's best student. Galamian said that he had no weaknesses in his playing.

Muy bueno, pero prefiero una version más rápida, como la de Alexander Markov.
