I emailed the USCF and asked them for any scientific evidence that Armageddon produces equal chances for both players. The reply from a person called Browne [THE Walter Browne - I am not surre] was evasive: there are different rules for armageddon. It is worth adding, I think, that Armageddon is not a rated chess format [unlike lightning or even bullet] so to me the answer is clear: declare the event a tie.
