Justin; I fucking salute you. Seriously. So much respect for how he stand alone was an innovator of grindcore, industrial, and post-metal....probably more to come...
holy SHIT justin looks skinny in this video... he wasn't doing heroin or anything back then was he? probably just poor and couldn't afford to eat, eh?
@HammarHeart Justin did not like his image around when he was doing Godflesh.. He himself said he thought he was really frail and did not fit in the scene. -The eye Justin Broadrick interview.
this is screwballamped .Just showing a sign of life. check out napalm death with godflesh sometime song is "avalanche master song"from noise for music sake.not as good but an interesting mix of industrial and grindcore
@gsnake666 Man you speak like they just sold out.In this case the term of experimentation is valid.Listen to "Hymns" for instance. There's not much synth work on that record. They still maintained their guitars within their music overall even if they added drum 'n bass influences.Comparing to today's bag of thrash Godflesh were incredibly good
@bloodyrockfire I find it funny when people say metal bands "sold out". No matter what they do they're not making any money off of it, it's usually just the band adding some new elements to their sound. I don't expect scene kids to start buying Godflesh v-necks from Hot Topic any time soon lol.
@Beholdthesharktopus In fact some bands really traded their integrity for the greenies. There are quite a few examples but Godflesh has always remained sincere all the way around by Broadrick reflecting his exact sentimental edge into the music he produces.Jesu for insatnce is another side of his ego
I seriously miss these guys. Man I wish I liked air travel, otherwise I'd be at their reunion this year. Just gotta wait for the inevitable DVD I suppose...
This is just...incredible. I can't really put into words just what this does to me physically and emotionally. I look at all the 'haircut' bands in Kerrang and weep for them.
Remember hearing "Streetcleaner" for the first time in 1990...wow...and, to incorporate a drummachine in a "metal" - band was almost blasphemy then! Real free spirits, brilliant music.
Guys, got somethin to share - just discovered the best way to approach dark and crushing music such as these to have fun and joy with it.
Pointers from bluesman John Lee Hooker (correct me if I'm wrong) - "Blues maybe abt feeling low, but you gotta feel good playin' it" Hmmm maybe we can ask more about this from Justin himself?
bwhitmer, fear factory are great fans of godflesh, they were inspired by G. Burton often wears godflesh t-shirts and speaks about their godflesh influences. Just like mike patton during the angel dust era. Anyway, no need to mention poor fear factory here, what happened to them now?... So, think again who's the copy. Don't f**k with the biggest. This video is a killer!
This album is pure fucking nihilistic destruction. They need to make a special re-release like they did with the Carcass records. I think the Flesh deserves it. A classic from beginning to end.
fuckin 'A'. Christbait rising. This is so fucking brutally heavy, and back in 1990 when this was done nobody sounded like this in the field of extreme metal, other bands were grinding away at 1000 mph,Godflesh's drones were were just as heavy as those riff thrashers. And this also had another ingredient that made it even darker: Authentic Industrial. Thanks for the upload!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Fuckin Assholes both times I went to see them there fucking drum machine broke down...Just get a fucking drummer, the beats are simple enough. None the less I'm still amazed at how heavy they sound. Street Cleaner was a fucking awesome cd. Everything else after that? I dont know what the fuck that shit was...but it sucked.
JK looks scrawny but weilds one mean guitar. In fact his playing remind me of electric Neil Young (one-note solos power!) in Black Sabbath-meets-Swans context. Ben Green striked me with a John Entwisthle presence too. Though not dexterous, his basslines were huge, powerful and crushing.
just magic! saw them in Brixton about 1988, mad gig. this is just two guys and a drum machine remember! the missing link between metal and punk (with a good kick up the arse from Napalm Death admittedly).
Fucking hell, the quality of the footage/ audio is so good.... But I rather remember them like this. Just one clip that blows everything away. Too scrared that other footage will disapoint....... Godflesh = God
theez guys were the fkn heaviest thing i heard back in 91-92, corroding/atmospheric! dark and introspective. would also request to see this whole show uploaded. i never got to see them come to my part of the world. fkn brutal. their self titled debut "Godflesh" & Streetcleaner - nothing heavier, and very unique at a time when industrial music was faster tempo, these guys hit ya with the brickload. cheers.
I saw them 20.3.-92 at tullikamari,Tampere. I have not washed my ears since then. This is a band to remember. Anyone seen them live should be considered a lucky bastard. This vid has remarkable sound compared to its age. Thank you for this!
One of the greatest bands, like, ever. And I'm not even a metal fan. They just embody the spirit of the dark and the dense...
