the small opening of the back of that bottle will greatly throttle your suction flow making that setup suck horribly badly... I'm surprised if that setup works at all. A 6" tubing flow is minimum and that little vacuum hose will make the suction even less... Also the longer the hose the less suction you get
foam board is a bit better then card board u get it at arts an craft stores also the white reflects the light making it easier to see. since u cant use wood
@ArtofModeling Definitely a more solid and sturdy idea, sadly I have neither the tools nor the space to build something a bit more elaborate. Thanks for the suggestion though.
There's a fantastic thread on GundamEclipse concerning the specifics behind making your own spray booth, where the user Sunsanvil makes a few INCREDIBLE posts about the subject. He's big into safety and such, so I think it might be worth reading them, as it seems those kitchen fans aren't the safest things in the world for a spray booth.
He has diagrams and everything.
Like Ihasarus said, the exit might be too narrow, but should be an easy fix.
Are you going to get a screen or filter for the front of the fan? Because it is going to get caked with a bad mixture of dust and paint really quick from experience. Besides that awesome setup like the clear roof to allow light in .
@halfmumi The filter is for a common oven fan. Its a cut to fit roll. Thinner odour is also a problem for me. The spray booth helps, but I also mask it with an aroma therapy fan. Helps keep the complaints down to a minimum.
Looks pretty well done! And definitely a nice alternative with the use of that coke bottle and plastic tube. Though, I hope there wont be any freak accidents to where the box catches on fire.

Looks good. I did the same with a translucent plastic box (should be another ~700 yen) to have it a bit sturdier.
Maybe the coke bottle's exit is a bit narrow. If the air stream isn't strong enough one could make the hole wider by cutting the bottle neck.
Good luck for the contest!
