surprising David says there isn't much rapport in the studio. Even if there wasn't you'd think they'd just be cagey about talking about it openly. Also bring it home just how likely the split was.
Everything around me has been pretty fucked up for a few weeks but when I start watching some Floyd videos I feel like a little happy kid and I love it!
The creative tension is apparent during the discussion regarding the report among members whether onstage or in studio. Was there a bit of deference or mutual consideration during that initial response? It's a pleasure to note there is a warrant for each opinion as well. The alchemy of this band is still amazing. Refreshing to hear statements from them all, especially Mr Wright about improvisation showing how integral he really was to PF. Tedious seems a bit off when patient or diligent is app.
Why does it matter if the majority of you think they look dirty? That doesn't change that I think Gilmour and Waters are some of the msot attractive men ever, and not to mention the band makes incredible music.
Two comments: Was Spinal Tap completely based on Pink Floyd interviews and, really, why focus the camera on anyone else besides David? They can all talk as much as they want, but why waste precious film on anyone else but him?
Every group needs a leader in the studio; yes, it creates tension but it is absolutely necessary. Pink Floyd was no different--Roger took the lead because it was necessary for him to do so. Without his vision, you would have had a string of albums like The Division Bell--very pleasant to listen but nothing to distinguish it from other pleasant albums--whereas Darkside of the Moon, The Wall, Animals are visionary. I doubt if any musicians look to A Momentary Lapse of Reason for inspiration.
Please read all 3 comments couldn’t fit in one: Great archival footage thanks for posting this classic. It is interesting to see that Richard Wright during this era of Floyd is seemingly acting as the band's front man. It is a shame that sometimes in life things just don't always end up as they were meant to be.
This is not to say that Mr. Wright didn’t enjoy a career that most of us can only dream of however I think if Roger didn't harbor such resentment towards Rick Wright nearing the time of The Wall that Rick Wright may have been able to flourish more during their final years together as a band. He was obviously very talented.
As Gilmour has stated so eloquently after Rick's passing stating that he was a cornerstone of Floyd's sound during their greatest work namely Dark Side of the Moon and often didn’t receive the recognition that he deserved often in the shadow of Waters and Gilmour. This video IMHO plays great homage to Richard Wright and his obvious influence during the golden age of Pink Floyd.
I was hoping to see and hear 4 geniuses of music by clicking this video, and what do I see on the first seconds ? An advertising on the new album of lady gaga... Shit is everywhere, this is scary.
Howdy, BrokenChair88 here, writing to you from one of my many backup accounts. Remember me? The Pink Floyd wrote "Dogs" guy? Oops, sorry for accidentally saying that Pink Floyd wrote...well you know, being that that's the reason why you blocked me. There seems to be something in those four harmless words that seems to drive you to the point where you will deny someone their freedom of speech. Fair, huh? Anyway, I hope you will come to realize the irrationality on your part in blocking me.
It's actually quite nice to see a band comprised of opinionated individuals. Nothing's more boring and fake than watching interviews where each member fellates other and they all agree on everything the other one says.
Pink Floyd always appear as if though they were great to interview. Their answers were direct and they always looked the interviewer right in the eye.
*Sigh* David Gilmour has the juiciest lips.....eat your heart out Mick Jagger.
My take from this interview and seeing Rick singing Echoes on Live at Pompeii tells me that early on he was very self confident and assertive of his talents. But perhaps those who wrote less than other band members got relegated to lesser status. And who knows what went on behind scenes? Maybe Roger belittled him enough to shake that confidence, and he no longer dominated interviews or felt he could really speak for the band. I'd like to hear from you if you've read the bios and know better.
1971 - A vintage year! (Okay, it's the year I was born)... I grew up with their music and now 40 years later, it still has the same effect on me! It's classic and, in my heart at least, will never grow old or outdated!
@Jayess007 Rhetorical question? If not: Yes, Roger Waters and David Gilmour both sang, and Rick Wright often did the background. Read the description to find out who is who.
why hate or judge a man cause of his hair. before u talk shit make albums that have sold millions, be influential in music and lives of millions, make tons of money, and be inducted both in the u.s. and u.k. hall of fame then talk shit especially about a mans hair u dumb shit.
@kalen486 Whoa. Who are your comments directed to? If myself, then you'll note that I am the one who has posted the video up here for your enjoyment, so obviously I don't "hate" him or them. Chill, Phil.
I was actually making an ironic comment on what seems to me a finnicky complaint (in light of their excellent output at the time) by those "judging" him for having unwashed hair. Bad scalp health can lead to premature baldness, but cannot be the cause of male pattern baldness as it is genetic.

@MrPinkZeppelin actually, i think that's Dave saying yes, but too quietly, hence him clearing his throat right after. but it does seem like Roger or someone is whispering it to him
Man ...hearing Nick saying we use to be not so sophisticated hahhha it is fine !!! Because in some years later they would become the most sophisticated band all times . Also Atom Heart mother ...they nor even knew how much it would be successful. And after , Dark side of the moon. It is strange to back to this time and see a calm and "Naîve " Richard Right speaking as a boy ....time !!!
You say 50Cent-I Say Led Zeppelin You say Miley Cyrus-I say AC/DC You say T-Pain-I say Deep Purple You say Flowers-I say Van Halen You say Pink-I say Pink Floyd You say Hip Hop-i say Jimi Hendrix You say R&B-I scream Classic Rock You say hannah montana-i hit you in the face 70% of teenagers have turned to Hip Hop and Rap.If you are part of the 30% that still listen to real music, copy and paste this message to another 5 videos. DON'T LET THE SPIRIT rock die
Poor Pink Floyd - they spent so much of their time defending the legitimacy of their human musical talent. So awesome. they could fart into a can and make it sound cool.
This is very interesting, and I am very glad I found it. However, the whole time I found myself thinking one thing over and over: interviews are freakin' strange.
It seems everyone has been influenced in some way or another by the freaking Rolling Stones. Amazes me how long they have been around. I wouldn't be surprised to one day find out that George Washington grew up listening to the Rolling Stones.
Seeing these PF interviews from the 1970-1972 era makes you realize that they were dealing with a lot of critical questioning because of their use of electronics. It seems like tapes, synthesizers and new musical technologies were viewed with a certain suspicion for whatever reason by the press/music critics. It's almost like they had to fight the skeptics prove that their talent was authentic and not just a bunch of expensive gear.
I knew it had to be MEDDLE based on the bands appearance with regard to photos on each album and the era. The choir with Ron Geesin for Atom Heart Mother had proved very difficult so they opted to streamline their approach. What's also very keen interest is the diverse individuals who make up FLOYD all worked on such experiments in unity of some sort!!
great interview, it shows that they were very capable of being a thoughtful democracy. obviously later waters asserted himself lyrically and compositionally, and gilmour and others eventually felt it got a little too personal and self serving. gilmour- roger ruined pink floyd, waters final cut lyric- the high command took my daddy from me, or something like that, i heard the final cut once in 1983,lol. very revealing, a tough call, no wonder they did solo careers.
This for once is rather a good interview. Rick show's with clarity how he brought forth his working method. He is a bit unsure about how he got there, but it illustrates well how he contributed the to the unique Pink Floyd sound If they had been relatively unsuccessful for longer, and worked toward this end as a band as seen here; who know's they would have had a longer creative career rather than stringing things out.Sadly it seems you do these things when you are young, unless you're a Jazzo

I doubt these people are capable of hate. Much less, hate for each other. All legal bullshit and human squabling aside.
jootube10 1 year ago

It's almost like they had to fight the skeptics prove that their talent was authentic and not just a bunch of expensive gear.
slevisman 1 year ago 3
@slevisman absolutely - you get the same sort of theme in some of the interview sections in "live at pompeii".

Of course decent young people hear decent rock n' roll bands... meaning: the old ones, mainly.
P.S.: And I have the ticket to the The Wall concert next 21st of March at Lisbon. First day of springtime - symbolic enogh.

I knew it had to be MEDDLE based on the bands appearance with regard to photos on each album and the era. The choir with Ron Geesin for Atom Heart Mother had proved very difficult so they opted to streamline their approach. What's also very keen interest is the diverse individuals who make up FLOYD all worked on such experiments in unity of some sort!!

great interview, it shows that they were very capable of being a thoughtful democracy. obviously later waters asserted himself lyrically and compositionally, and gilmour and others eventually felt it got a little too personal and self serving. gilmour- roger ruined pink floyd, waters final cut lyric- the high command took my daddy from me, or something like that, i heard the final cut once in 1983,lol. very revealing, a tough call, no wonder they did solo careers.
metalfiend124 1 year ago
Gosh Richard, sort out that hair. Not good! And at least Waters did something about his teeth later in life.
Gilmour was a true guitar hero, even in 1971.

but i prefer the mature Waters ^_^

This for once is rather a good interview. Rick show's with clarity how he brought forth his working method. He is a bit unsure about how he got there, but it illustrates well how he contributed the to the unique Pink Floyd sound If they had been relatively unsuccessful for longer, and worked toward this end as a band as seen here; who know's they would have had a longer creative career rather than stringing things out.Sadly it seems you do these things when you are young, unless you're a Jazzo

imagine if david looked like that now there would be massive armani blliboards of him in his undies like beckham an ronaldo. i can dream
Gdiz28 1 year ago
The Pink Floyd seem to be rather engaged with the interview. Usually they got bored and moaned about them in later biographies.
