The best athletes in the US play Football & Basketball. The best athletes around the world play Soccer & Rugby. I played rugby for 7 years & bottom line they R very different. In Football, athletes R more of an abomination, trained & built for a very specific purpose & short bursts (ie. Linebacker, Offensive Line, etc). In a FB tackle, you can leave your feet & you don't have to wrap. Pads are weapons. Rugby players play offensive & Def & have to be more rounded athletes & have better stamina.

I do know something about rugby because I play A grade and I have played representative football for the junior Cronulla Sharks.
Not all sports are about rivalrys and running at each other, some are about playing the game and winning it, and having fun.

I admit i've never played rugby, but i asked a linebacker in my football team (who plays both sports) and one of my football coach (who plays rugby as well) and they clearly told me football was more tactical than rugby... but as I said, i've never played rugby so i can't tell you by experience, but they know very well both football and rugby.

above the armpit, but in football you do. Makes you ask the question, why doesn't rugby allow hitting above the armpit? Because it's too dangerous, but American football allows it. Says something about who's tougher in my opinion. I'd say that rugby requires more technicality, but not more toughness. In football you fly in from 20-30 yards plus full speed hitting above the armpit. Ouch. Besides, if America camped on rugby the way NZ does, we'd be ruling the world in the sport. Peace!

actually, you cant hit someone in the head in american football. ts a 15 yard penalty, actually you cant even touch the guys face, that 15 more yards. in rugby you are allowed to hit above the armpit, all depending on how they go into the tackle. i dont think youve ever even play rugby before so you cant say anything about it. and you can come in from 20-30 meters in rugby. just to let you know

I failed to finish my point of coming in from 20-30 yards when hitting in football, that it can happen to anyone on the field whether running the ball or not. Not in rugby. Actually, you CAN hit someone in the head in American football. You can get a penalty for leading with your head to spear their head. However, even that is rarely called unless it is a QB being hit.
youtube "WR Ward" with your choice of "hits" "nails" "lays out", etc... You will see a typical big hits to the head that are legal. There are many more examples.

Contact is different.football is much more about impact and explosion. the tackler knows the carrier will not pass it. make the tackle and the game stops.
In rugby the contact has to be tempered by the continous play ,endurance is required . In rugby you aim to draw the tackle to create space,over commit and you expose the position,so a little bit more to think about
