Proven where, in court? Do review me what happened. I am open.
Oh btw, the several coups during Cory's time was also a direct result of Marcos' "bastardization" of the military and other law-enforcement agencies. It did take awhile for them to realize that in a democracy, the armed forces are under civilian rule.
gagothesith - Umm... A direct quote would require a specific printed source material in this particular case. For the life of me, I honestly have never come across such statement. Also: do fill in the blank please. But I'd appreciate it if you could site the vital source. Still questionable at this point - to me... But I'm open! :-)
All Filipinos should celebrate PEOPLE POWER, the movement that led to victory over tyranny. It should be our Filipino battlecry and NOT just a monopoly of the Aquino family.
What we need is a cohesive national pride and NOT more heroes because we have enough of those already.
But let's give a befitting honor to Cory as to what she was to the Filipinos, our ex-president.
Nearly every speech was a rant against Marcos, every failure in her administration was blamed on Marcos, even Cabinet meetings were described as tirahan-si-Marcos rallies which died down when it was time to make decisions.
The word back then was that "She will agree not to run again, IF Ramos succeeds her. If it is anyone else likely to win without her running, then she will run again."
Now tell everyone ON WHAT BASIS Aquino qualifies for the title "the greatest President"--what she actually achieved as Chief Executive (no, "being a symbol for six years" and more rallies don't count).
actually, cory was only pushed by Venerable Jaime Cardinal Sin, the true hero of the edsa 2 who urged the "filipinos" to take part in the rally. REQVIESCAT IN PACE, CORAZON though.
I didnt experience voting ever since dahil wala akong tiwala sa mga politiko natin lalo na ang present admisnstrasyon!! I was 5 years old during the people power but now after realizing what Ninoy and Cory has done i promised myself na banatyan ang laban na pinagsimulan ng mag asawa..kung kelangan kong mamatay sa kaka protesta para lang di maisulong ang cha cha gagawin ko dahil ako ay Pilipino.
on my FB i posted on my wall call for the NAtion to unite again (iwas surprise seing the next day the marcos to visit the burial) my call is for all of you Martial law babies turn Cory's CHildren and whatever coat you painted since then..
who grew up and molded your formative years seeing
and remembering only one President with fear, reverence of submission and dread to speak nothing but praise of a President known to be a war hero, bar top notcher and legislative maverick.
Erstwhile a leader that mesmerized the nation while enriching himself, assassinating foes, hunted the critic and silencing the media.
A gift of God for the Filipino people...Mrs. President Corazon C. Aquino and not to forget her beloved husband Senator Benigno 'Ninoy' Aquino may their souls rest in peace...and may they both remain in our hearts...as icons of democracy, equality, and peace....
akinglangtube- Ninoy and Cory galvanized a tepid populace to dismantle the Marcos distatorship. That's one reason among hundreds. Just look around you kid! At 46, I'm not looking like a grandpa and I am not. You surely look older than me - with your sick attitude. Hahah!!
GAGOTHESITH - The sentence is acceptable. But I'm open to your suggestions. The irony is - the lack of pause in this period of an ex-President's passing.
GAGOthesith - Translation: We can only wish that certain persons would be respectful to the dead (and the bereaved family) by temporarily withholding negative comments on a former President who just died. Decency and custom demands such. It's a period for mourning. Cory was not perfect. Criticisms will naturally come after and is acceptable in civil debate. That's democracy. Ultimately, nobody escapes history's judgement. I hope I answered your questions Irene...
Did we observe the same noble principles the last time another former President died--or do we apply those selectively-noble principles only to those we sympathize with.
Very good point! But I cannot answer that for others. Yet, this spontaneous outpouring by the people (inspite it not being sponsored as a State funeral) is a phenomena we cannot deny. Former and the late President Marcos, for example, will continue to be examined and dissected by History's unbiased and probing eye. When Pres. Marcos passed away, I was busy with my med studies. I kept quiet. My roots are from the Ilocos region too but I will stand by History's judgement of Pres. Marcos. Thanks.
TAKUMADEMONREBORN: If you are 16 yrs old, you would have been born around 1993--7yrs after she took office, and a year after she left.
What the hell do you know about the REALITIES of Corazon Aquino's term as President (never mind those of the noble men before her who actually made a difference in SUBSTANCE--including Ramon Magsaysay).
wow~ r u saying its her fault?! she said dat she didnt want to be a pres.. and her role as a pres is to just bring democracy back~ hav some respect...
1 The miserable state of the country at the point a President takes office is obviously not that person's fault.
2 But the country REMAINING miserable throughout and even until the end of one's term as President IS that person's fault.
3 If "her role as pres is to just bring democracy back" then she should have quit immediately after taking office, and left the other tasks to others willing and able to perform them--have some concern about vital matters beyond SYMBOLISM.
Yeah will it's not only the president at fault it's the people who vote them as presidents. Like who in the hell will give rein to an actor like Erap at the same time give him a grand prison at the same time when he was caught taking money and shit..
So freaking stupid. Nothing will ever change. It's cuz of all the people there voting for corrupt candidates. All of them are just waiting to be elected. None in the list will even make the country good. Corazon at least kept the country away from the corrupt but after she left Erap came and so does the corruption still remains.
Look at the President now. You don't see any nice changes in the streets of manila what so ever. Makes you wonder what has that Arroyo lady did.. Probably just gave food but no change in system. I am pretty much sure that she looks at OFWs as the saviors for the country.
have knowlege with history b4 u talk~ do u even know how much debt marcos left for cory's term to pay?! marcos got rich during his term.. not the country~~
Please do not be WILFULLY STUPID, nor IGNORANT IN YOUR STUPIDITY.
I know of the REALITIES of both the Marcos and Aquino eras--I was there, I voted, I marched. I know that the country remained poor even during Aquino's term--she herself didn't steal but tolerated the thieves who surrounded her; she marched and talked and vacillated, while the country went further adriftm everyone self-satisfied with their slogans and outstretched thumbs and forefingers, you ARROGANT IGNORANT IDIOT.
without tita cory, we and including you will not walk free until today.. she is not a good president but she and her family sacrificed a lot just to give us filipinos freedom..
imagine your husband/ wife was shot dead.. if im tita cory, (if she dont care for the filipino people) i will remain in america and forget this country (the hell with freedom my husband is dead)..
That is an argument for the removal of Marcos--not the point being discussed here (although not questioned either).
1 That has nothing to do with the question of the (IN)COMPETENCE of Aquino.
2 If the removal of Marcos was the sole purpose of Aquino, then she should have quit the moment that was achieved--since she was neither keen on nor competent in all the vital duties of a President anyway.
PEOPLE power (the filipino people) elected cory. they chose her over marcos.. why should she quit if that is the will of the filipino people? and that was the time of instability.. the filipino needs someone who can guide them to democracy..
if she quit then she we will have started all over again..
so what's your point? that she should have stepped down the presidency?
who do you think will be fit to become president that time? (inaasahan siya ng majority of pinoy that time)
imagine what the people will feel if cory had stepped down..
there will be unrest again.. people will feel na iniwan sila sa ere ni cory.. sya na nga ang naging "symbol of freedom" nila tapos iiwan pa nya.. i do hope you will appreciate what she did for our country someday.. FREEDOM hindi the way she governed.
REPEAT: (S)he who does not even want to perform the duties of the office of President should not even hold it--be a symbol all you want, but if that is all that you want then have someone else do the job of Chief Executive.
nah.. its either papansin ka lang dito (you were the one who replied to me and started a fight here) or you are a marcos loyalist..
your comment/ opinion means NOTHING here..
you are one of the maybe 1% of the filipino population who are anti-cory.. YOUR OPINION MEANS NOTHING.. hindi kayo pinapansin kasi lahat ng filipino eh saludo kay cory..
1 "If you do not worship Aquino, then you MUST be a Marcos loyalist"--IDIOTIC REASONING.
2 The goal is not to gain your sympathy--of what bloody value is it. The goal is to expose the IDIOCY of your argument and your idiocy when you are arrogant despite not having functional reading comprehension skills.
wow.. i did not even said that we WORSHIP aquino.. what i am doing is paying my respect to her for setting us free by posting my comments here and defending her.
and look who is talking? YOU were the one who is being ARROGANT.. all i did was explain the best that i can about aquino's good deeds.. you were the one being ARROGANT by replying to my SIMPLE comments with your words like - "IDIOTIC REASONING, not having functional reading comprehension skills.." hmmm.. maybe you are the one who NEEDS functional reading comprehension skills instead because you are the one who is being arrogant..
Evidently, you did not get the gist of the whole sentence.
Be arrogant all you want if you have the brains to comprehend what was written--what is laughable is arrogance DESPITE not having functional reading comprehension skills . . . passionately replying when you did not even grasp what it was you were supposed to have been replying to.
whatever you english carabao speaking, trying-hard-to-be smart, ignorant and arrogant mongrel.. you are a waste of time.. i thought i had an intellectual and clean debate with you but all you did was talk what you think without listening and understanding.. i'll get back at you when you can back up what you say..
you said i was being ignorant.. i just exposed you as an ignorant with the words you had used.. and you cant back it up.. and you still keep talking like a harmless little girl.. LOL !!! nobody cares about your opinion.. long live cory!!!
Gagothesith-To label the Aquino presidency as merely a "symbol" over-simplifies a deeply complex period in our history. In doing so, you become guilty of what you precisely are against : SELECTIVELY APPLYING political sympathies. Be objective. You're intelligent enough to know that you cannot simply brand any presidential tenure. I can tell you're not a rabid Cory fan and that's perfectly fine. But in fairness, an objective assessment and a deeper research will show Cory was not just a "symbol".
REVIEW: *I* pointed out how Aquino failed to perform the duties of President. *Her supporters* here countered that "she became President because she was a symbol of this and that, and it was important that she remained President despite this and that 'because she was a symbol of this and that', and that she remained great and shall always do so 'because she is a symbol of this and that'.
Gagothesith-Your argument is spotty and I still stand by my earlier comment. I read no commnet here to the effect of your reply. I see where you probably had a slip in comprehension: Aquino was a symbol for the opposition to unseat Marcos. But when she assumed the Presidency, being a rallying point ceased as she now became the lightning rod for government criticism. You have not come up with a strong argument that Aquino's presidency was a total failure. Care to expound? I'm interested and open.
That part is irrelevant at best, outright wrong at worst.
(1) She knew the fate of a President--every President before her was subjected to criticism whenever there was failure, and even when there was success but other people had other ideas (or were just jealous rivals); even she spent her post-Presidency criticising every successor except her annointed one.
(2) Never mind criticisms void of CREDIBILITY--her own failures in every duty as Chief Executive DESERVES criticism, as does the failure of any other person occupying the same office.
(3) The poor remained poor, debt continued to rise, OCWs continued to increase not because of choice but because of lack of choice, education remained poor, health remained neglected because she was more consumed by Sin's advice on contraception, the population remained unmanageable,
(4) She was no thief herself but she tolerated--and defended--the thieves who surrounded her.
(5) She vacillated on every national security and foreign defense issue--heeding activist advisers one day, pragmatist diplomats another day; offering to share power with NPP-CPA, reversing it when Munoz-Palma protested; vowing to drive out US bases WHILE letting her guard down against domestic insurgency.
No wonder there were SEVEN attempts to unseat her, instead of much fewer or none.
(6) She KNEW that she knew nothing about government, about managing anything beyond a household, about the economy, about law and order, about national security--which would have been solved by #1 having brilliant advisers and by #2 willingness to take advice.
(6)A - But she ignored her best advisers most of the time, dismissing the great minds first when they insisted that she was going in the wrong direction (Munoz-Palma on law and security, Monsod on the economy, etc
(6)B - She would listen to the most dramatic ones and always end up wrong--which she made worse by changing her mind, and made even worse by changing her mind again.
(6)C - When offered advice--not criticism--from outside or from dismissed-because-inaway-niya advisers who still cared about what happens to her administration and the country, her famous retort was a bitchy/"mataray"
(7) She spent her time rallying against Marcos (her old job), instead of making wise decisions and implementing them with firmness and consistency (her present job)--but as everyone both for and against her agree on, she was a "symbol"/an "icon" ... the problem is not that she is that, but that it is all she wanted to be BUT BE CHIEF EXECUTIVE AT THE SAME TIME.
4B - She annointed Ramos, who did not do too badly because of the things that he was and she was not/the things that he did and she did not. That is fine.
The only wise decision she made that will not be debated.
4C - She had contempt for Estrada who was elected by the masses and who was "uncouth"--but people chose Estrada because they felt free to choose as they please (the same freedom she said she valued and helped them win) ... why can't she accept the consequences.
Yup, agree. I also marched in EDSA DOS. Was that a mistake? Probably so... Let's wait and see how that will play out in the annals (or should I say ANALS :-D) of history.
Gagothesith- your points in (6) all show she performed! Thank you for supporting me on that point! You and I voted on 1986, we marched in People Power. You and I know that the president who suceeded Marcos was to inherit a mess of hell. We are first-hand witnesses. Any successor would never satisfy everyone. Ninoy knew that, Cory more so. We were certain it would be rocky. Yet, you are free to express your interesting views and they are well taken- by me at least. Thank you po-
gagothesith- I did. It shows Cory performed. Whether good or bad (with or against her advisers), that is the question. But Cory took charge. That simple :-)
Oh btw, I defintely do not recall Cory ever blaming Marcos for ALL the gov't's woes. The media then would never have let that go. That would also be a sweeping generalization and definitely an error in argumentation.
Gagothesith- Your 5-point arguments are very well taken. I do not agree with all - and they will be open to friendly debates. But be objective. Surely, we can also come up with some good points of her Presidency- which I need not expound on now unnecessarily. You need just casually scan the media coverage of Cory for such. (It is agreed today's media is free and therefore OBJECTIVE to a great extent). Today's journalism is tomorrow's history. Check the internet. Let's see how Cory fairs in time.
Yup, agree. Aquino's performance as a Chief Executive will be open to debate years to come. Yet... many first hand witness accounts, both friends and foes, international and national media, religious and lay groups, old and young- do attest she performed! Whether she did it well or not OVER-ALL, now THAT is probably still open to healthy debate - as with any past presidency. The answer may not come in our lifetime and only the test of time (and debating historians) will tell.
like i said your a waste of time.. you cant even back it up when you said that i was being arrogant when i just exposed you as the one being arrogant..
blah blah all you want.. your opinions dont matter.. cory is dead.. but long live cory !!! long live her legacy !!! as for you.. go have a debate with a "palengkera".. mas bagay ka dun putak lang ng putak without listening and understanding..
4 Your IDIOTIC REASONING has been read time and again--what else is there to understand when it is idiotic. Yet you keep talking, exposing your idiocy--"putak ka ng [sic] putak". Bobo ka pa--with the brains of a "palengkera".
haha you still cant defend what you had said.. you keep on answering the wrong topic. THE TOPIC IS BEING ARROGANT.. YOU SAID I WAS BEING ARROGANT WHEN YOU WERE THE ONE WHO USES ARROGANT WORDS.. you cant get over it.. and this is the first time you are using tagalog words.. bumigay ka din haha.. akala mo kung sinong english speaking mongrel..
hahaha!!! sakit ng tiyan ko.. you STILL CAN'T DEFEND what you had said.. iniiba mo usapan eto na lang sagutin mo para mas maintindihan mo.. i'll make it simple.. just answer this.. who is being arrogant you or me? ME - (who just commenting here without saying nasty words) or YOU - (who keeps on saying words like BOBO, IDIOTIC REASONING, etc..) can you answer that simple question?
then why cant you answer a simple question of an "idiot"? haha.. that is because you are the one who is an IDIOT besides also being the one who is ARROGANT (you STILL CANT answer me in this topic).. just because i cant answer in straight english means im an ARROGANT and IDIOT like you haha..
the big question here is why cant you back it up? the TOPIC here in the first place is WHO IS BEING ARROGANT.. and again and again and again you failed to understand and ANSWER it.. i got work to do.. send me a message again if you are ready to answer that simple question.. haha.. just what i needed.. you made my day..
Gagothesith - We value our democracy. Democracy in action allows free expression and beliefs. And I will defend anybody's right to express their views.
My personal analysis of your post - It's a RHETORICAL statement, not pertaining to any President in particular. It could be ANY president- past, current or future. Hence gagothesith writes "(S)he". A President who is amoral, corrupt, steals from gov't coffers, kills,etc.- these are Presidents not performing their sacred duty. They should RESIGN.
MARCBRILLIANT: correct. An argument must be applied consistently in order to gain CREDIBILITY.
To claim noble principles but SELECTIVELY APPLY it according to one's political sympathies is pure partisanship--precisely what we condemn our own self-serving politicians for. There is nothing noble in it.
like i said she didn't need to be president.. she didn't chose to be president.. and she didn't want to be president (she is a very private and ordinary citizen/ house wife)
but she sacrificed her privacy to set us free and lead us to democracy (even if she is not a good president)
mabuhay ang mga aquino..!!!!! dahil kay cory bumagsak ang peso, buti na lang nasa japan akew hahahehe sana bumaba pa nga ang value ng peso. para mas ok

caloysyu 2 years ago
> marcos is to blame if there is failure
> in my administration
Wrong--"she blamed Marcos for every failure DURING her administration".
Debt kept rising--"kasi nanghiram si Marcos at may interes na babayaran at walang ibang pera".
Education standards kept falling--"kasi bulok ang dating sistema at hindi trained ang teachers at bulok ang buildings at walang computers".
. . .
gagothesith 2 years ago
The economy kept sinking--"kasi walang confidence sa Pilipinas, dahil kay Marcos".
No new jobs created--"hindi dahil sa policies natin for the past 1~6yrs, but because of what happened in the 20yrs before that.
Insurgency gained strength--"because they hated Marcos and still do not trust government".
etc etc etc.

she stop rallying against marcos after she became president....wala na ang mga marcos ano pa ang reasons to rally against them
caloysyu 2 years ago

Correct. Which made her behaviour for six years BEWILDERING.
. . .
gagothesith 2 years ago
> she stop [sic] rallying against marcos
> after she became president
THE BEWILDERING REALITY: she did not stop.
Nearly every speech was a rant against Marcos, every failure in her administration was blamed on Marcos, even Cabinet meetings were described as tirahan-si-Marcos rallies which died down when it was time to make decisions.
gagothesith 2 years ago
even she spent her post presidency criticising every succesor except her anointed one..sino bang anointed one ang sinasabi mo?

Ramos, the immediate successor
The word back then was that "She will agree not to run again, IF Ramos succeeds her. If it is anyone else likely to win without her running, then she will run again."

marcbrillant 2 years ago
What "lack of pause in this period of an ex-President's passing"?
gagothesith 2 years ago
GAGOthesith - Translation: We can only wish that certain persons would be respectful to the dead (and the bereaved family) by temporarily withholding negative comments on a former President who just died. Decency and custom demands such. It's a period for mourning. Cory was not perfect. Criticisms will naturally come after and is acceptable in civil debate. That's democracy. Ultimately, nobody escapes history's judgement. I hope I answered your questions Irene...
marcbrillant 2 years ago
Did we observe the same noble principles the last time another former President died--or do we apply those selectively-noble principles only to those we sympathize with.
Thus the earlier rhetorical question.
gagothesith 2 years ago
Very good point! But I cannot answer that for others. Yet, this spontaneous outpouring by the people (inspite it not being sponsored as a State funeral) is a phenomena we cannot deny. Former and the late President Marcos, for example, will continue to be examined and dissected by History's unbiased and probing eye. When Pres. Marcos passed away, I was busy with my med studies. I kept quiet. My roots are from the Ilocos region too but I will stand by History's judgement of Pres. Marcos. Thanks.

redpacman45 2 years ago
besides, if marcos was not removed we will still live in poverty plus martial law.. with cory, there is still poverty but with freedom.
redpacman45 2 years ago
That is an argument for the removal of Marcos--not the point being discussed here (although not questioned either).
1 That has nothing to do with the question of the (IN)COMPETENCE of Aquino.
2 If the removal of Marcos was the sole purpose of Aquino, then she should have quit the moment that was achieved--since she was neither keen on nor competent in all the vital duties of a President anyway.
gagothesith 2 years ago
PEOPLE power (the filipino people) elected cory. they chose her over marcos.. why should she quit if that is the will of the filipino people? and that was the time of instability.. the filipino needs someone who can guide them to democracy..
if she quit then she we will have started all over again..
redpacman45 2 years ago
(S)he who has no intention of performing the duties of the office of President--beyond "being a symbol"--should not hold it.
She remained a "symbol of freedom" even after she left--which proves she does not need to be President for six years in order to be just that.
gagothesith 2 years ago
so what's your point? that she should have stepped down the presidency?
who do you think will be fit to become president that time? (inaasahan siya ng majority of pinoy that time)

there will be unrest again.. people will feel na iniwan sila sa ere ni cory.. sya na nga ang naging "symbol of freedom" nila tapos iiwan pa nya.. i do hope you will appreciate what she did for our country someday.. FREEDOM hindi the way she governed.

gagothesith 2 years ago
Gagothesith-To label the Aquino presidency as merely a "symbol" over-simplifies a deeply complex period in our history. In doing so, you become guilty of what you precisely are against : SELECTIVELY APPLYING political sympathies. Be objective. You're intelligent enough to know that you cannot simply brand any presidential tenure. I can tell you're not a rabid Cory fan and that's perfectly fine. But in fairness, an objective assessment and a deeper research will show Cory was not just a "symbol".
marcbrillant 2 years ago
MARCBRILLIANT: You are barking at the wrong tree.
Perhaps you should take up the issue with them.
gagothesith 2 years ago
Gagothesith-Your argument is spotty and I still stand by my earlier comment. I read no commnet here to the effect of your reply. I see where you probably had a slip in comprehension: Aquino was a symbol for the opposition to unseat Marcos. But when she assumed the Presidency, being a rallying point ceased as she now became the lightning rod for government criticism. You have not come up with a strong argument that Aquino's presidency was a total failure. Care to expound? I'm interested and open.
marcbrillant 2 years ago
1
> when she assumed the Presidency,
> being a rallying point ceased
THAT PART is correct--BECAUSE the job of "symbol" or "rally leader" ceased to be her job. Her new job was as Chief Executive--vital duties to perform.
. . .
gagothesith 2 years ago
2
> [because] she now became
> the lightning rod for government criticism
That part is irrelevant at best, outright wrong at worst.
(1) She knew the fate of a President--every President before her was subjected to criticism whenever there was failure, and even when there was success but other people had other ideas (or were just jealous rivals); even she spent her post-Presidency criticising every successor except her annointed one.
. . .
gagothesith 2 years ago
(2) Never mind criticisms void of CREDIBILITY--her own failures in every duty as Chief Executive DESERVES criticism, as does the failure of any other person occupying the same office.
(3) The poor remained poor, debt continued to rise, OCWs continued to increase not because of choice but because of lack of choice, education remained poor, health remained neglected because she was more consumed by Sin's advice on contraception, the population remained unmanageable,
. . .
gagothesith 2 years ago
(4) She was no thief herself but she tolerated--and defended--the thieves who surrounded her.
(5) She vacillated on every national security and foreign defense issue--heeding activist advisers one day, pragmatist diplomats another day; offering to share power with NPP-CPA, reversing it when Munoz-Palma protested; vowing to drive out US bases WHILE letting her guard down against domestic insurgency.
No wonder there were SEVEN attempts to unseat her, instead of much fewer or none.
. . .
gagothesith 2 years ago
(6) She KNEW that she knew nothing about government, about managing anything beyond a household, about the economy, about law and order, about national security--which would have been solved by #1 having brilliant advisers and by #2 willingness to take advice.
(6)A - But she ignored her best advisers most of the time, dismissing the great minds first when they insisted that she was going in the wrong direction (Munoz-Palma on law and security, Monsod on the economy, etc
. . .
gagothesith 2 years ago
(6)B - She would listen to the most dramatic ones and always end up wrong--which she made worse by changing her mind, and made even worse by changing her mind again.
(6)C - When offered advice--not criticism--from outside or from dismissed-because-inaway-niya advisers who still cared about what happens to her administration and the country, her famous retort was a bitchy/"mataray"
> I do not take unsolicited advice!
. . .
gagothesith 2 years ago
(7) She spent her time rallying against Marcos (her old job), instead of making wise decisions and implementing them with firmness and consistency (her present job)--but as everyone both for and against her agree on, she was a "symbol"/an "icon" ... the problem is not that she is that, but that it is all she wanted to be BUT BE CHIEF EXECUTIVE AT THE SAME TIME.
. . .
gagothesith 2 years ago
3 The consensus is that she "had an impact"/"she was an icon"--not that she "performed AS CHIEF EXECUTIVE.
Which only confirms all of the above.
4A - As said repeatedly, she herself was not a thief--but she tolerated the gluttonous thieves around her.
How is that different from saying "Macapagal-Arroyo's husband and her allies are thieves, but Gloria herself is not, so OK lang"?
. . .
gagothesith 2 years ago
4B - She annointed Ramos, who did not do too badly because of the things that he was and she was not/the things that he did and she did not. That is fine.
The only wise decision she made that will not be debated.
4C - She had contempt for Estrada who was elected by the masses and who was "uncouth"--but people chose Estrada because they felt free to choose as they please (the same freedom she said she valued and helped them win) ... why can't she accept the consequences.
. . .
gagothesith 2 years ago
There should be no contempt for the poor illiterate masses voting for Estrada based on non-intellectual reasons--
[] she herself was swept to power based on euphoria
[] she herself lived a life of unimaginable privilege
4D - She marched against Macapagal-Arroyo who,
(1) ironically, replaced the one she wanted to get rid of;
(2) ironically, was like her who was not a thief herself but tolerated thieves who were political allies;
. . .
gagothesith 2 years ago

gagothesith- I did. It shows Cory performed. Whether good or bad (with or against her advisers), that is the question. But Cory took charge. That simple :-)
Oh btw, I defintely do not recall Cory ever blaming Marcos for ALL the gov't's woes. The media then would never have let that go. That would also be a sweeping generalization and definitely an error in argumentation.
marcbrillant 2 years ago
Gagothesith- Your 5-point arguments are very well taken. I do not agree with all - and they will be open to friendly debates. But be objective. Surely, we can also come up with some good points of her Presidency- which I need not expound on now unnecessarily. You need just casually scan the media coverage of Cory for such. (It is agreed today's media is free and therefore OBJECTIVE to a great extent). Today's journalism is tomorrow's history. Check the internet. Let's see how Cory fairs in time.
marcbrillant 2 years ago
MARCBRILLIANT: The Devil is in the details.
Read the details of the media reports you wish to cite to support your argument--
