"What if you were really old, and really kind, and alone? Your whole race dead and no future. What could you do then? If you were that old, and that kind...and the very last of your kind, you couldn't just stand there and watch children cry."
@karljohnson92 Yeah, it's kind of annoying how they don't too. I mean they're children, no need to crush their creativity and innocence just because yours is dust.
omg, he is soooooo cute with a baby. they need to have more of that on the show (not in a pervertid way). babies are cool. i think the Doctor would make a great dad. wish he was my dad. :(
@DOWSOE Oh it's so horrible when people are honest. Why can't he just mention everything is fine and dandy like other parents? Who needs the truth when we have lies?
@DOWSOE To a baby? The baby probably doesn't know what any of those are anyway, so they don't know how negative the things are. It's pretty neutral for him.
I really hope his next companion is a kid, this, young Amy and both of his Christmas episodes just agree so well with me, I don't like Matt's doctor unless a kid is on screen. To adult companions he's eccentric, to kids he's magic
This matches something William Hartnell could have said as the Doctor, this is definitive proof that anyone who tells me they think Matt Smith is unsuitable for the part or a bad actor, I can show them this, look into their eye and tell them flat out that they are wrong, why do people hate Matt again?
This scene....when i first saw it I was close to tears because it was so beautiful, and now that I see it again, I am the same way. Truly a touching scene.
@TheZutara101 at first, I also thought that the Doctor and River would have a child, and the child would take on the Doctor's title and be the next Doctor. But now I realize that cannot happen. Even if there is an offspring to continue the timelord dynasty, killing off the doctor would upset many fans, no matter how similiar the offspring would be to the doctor.
@kaizoisevil The doctor (10 and 9 and others) have said that he 'The Doctor' has had many children. There is even an episode with David Tennant and his 'daughter'
I love the 11th doctor. He deals with so many goodbyes and so many heartbreaks and so many moments that make me cry into my pillow. He could regenerate into the 10000th doctor, i dont care. The Eleventh Doctor will always be my doctor.
I think in each episode this season each character gets to shine... The girl who waited you really saw Amy take the limelight. In a God Man Goes To War you see the lengths Rory would go to show his wife he loves her (Not to mention waiting 2000 years!) But this episode I thought was really emotional for the doctor. The adventure before the doctor dies, there were a lot of scenes when you saw the true sadness of our mad man in a box. Eleven...You'll always be my doctor.
And this is why Matt does so well as the Doctor. He is so good at embodying the near-youthful playfulness as the Doctor, but in those moments where he shows just how old he truly id, Smith pulls it off to near perfection.
@hothotheat3000 That Stormy, at least. There was a positive army of babies playing him. Well, seven, actually. But then, that is still a lot of babies, relatively speaking.
adding on to my previous comment: I also love how the Doctor initially comes in a bit bewildered and afraid, unsure of what to do to comfort the baby. But then he picks up the bunny i can almost see a shift, like he's thinking 'oh, i know how to do this!' from his long ago experiences with his own children. like a parent never really forgets how to comfort a child.
Matt is an excellent actor, and this scene shows just why.

The hilarious part is trying to imagine Matt Smith speaking baby talk to Stormageddon. Just the idea of it cracks me up.
