@Noshirm Thank you for sharing it Noshi san,now I really feel anew that the piano is an orchestra :-o ! A sonorous and a masterful playing indeed.Thank you for posting it.(sorry my wrong English, despite your English is excellent ! )
@morinoroba Welcome, Lady Ai! (:-D) Yeah, Annie Fischer's approach to playing is vigorous, dynamic. She plays with feeling, with great nobility of emotion, and yes, her sound is magnificent. By the way, I would GLADLY rid myself of my ostensible skills in the English language if I could create the beautiful art you do - or play the piano as marvelously as you do! Hai, Ai!! (:-0)
I only know because I have a Phillips piano roll of Ella Rafelson from C.1920 playing an identical arrangement of this Chaconne - on the label it says "Handel - D'Albert". Annie Fischer was from a generation which no doubt was hugely influenced by D'Albert's reputation.
Isn't it wonderful that Fischer's measured, yet personally expressive, purity contrasts so strongly with Murray Perahia's splendid rendition -- or indeed Andreas Staier's ravishing version on the harpsichord -- without one in any way cancelling-out the other?
Absolutely fantastic, she is one of greatest musicians ever lived, and it is crime against music that fillips haven't included her in the series "Great pianists of 20 century".She is 100000000000 better than 95% pianists who are in .
I love Annie Fischer! She was an incredible virtuosa. She is also the only female pianist represented in Dubal's book where he lists complete recordings of Beethoven's 32 piano sonatas. This piece is a great recital opener. Perahia plays it well, too.
Well, yes Chaconne and Passacaglia are two different terms for the same type of piece of music. But so far I haven't seen anyone else name this piece Passacaglia. But who knows what they did back in 1920 or so...
What a great unique artist!
Wonderful!!

BRAVA, Annie! A dynamic, brilliant, powerful, yet magnificently controlled performance paying equal homage to Handel and to D'Albert!

What a great performance! This is in fact the original version by Handel and not an arrangement by D'Albert.

This is in fact, an arrangement of the Chaconne by Eugen D'Albert, hence the "beefing up" of the left hand part.

@RollaArtis ha, i was wondering if she had arranged it herself or not :) i'll put it in the info box

Annie Fischer

That's perhaps a bit of an exaggeration, but surely they could have given her even ONE of schlockmeister Alfred Brendel's THREE discs!
