  • Shawn, How should the head tilt at address and is this important at all? In this left sided sequence your head was tilted with your left ear leaning towards your left shoulder - so your chin was pointing in the direction of the target. In the 'take better divot' video your head is positioned back of the ball and chin is pointing away from the target - ie; the opposite of what I observe in this video. I was wondering if you have a preference and does eye dominance play into it? Thank you.

  • Shawn,

This is a very important tip. I have heard a tip from a friend that has helped me so I wanted to share.

At setup, look down at your feet. If your head is in the middle you are balanced. If your head is favored left or right your shoulders and balance are out of sync.

I have found with this tip I can stay centered and in balance enough to keep the head steady.

  • Great Tip! I teach this all the time combined with the feet together drill: When feet are together, head stays on top of the feet; when feet are apart, head stay between the feet and you are right by saying that the peripheral vision is what you want to use to monitor the situation! Awesome dude! Thanks for posting! Shawn

  • This is a very important lesson. It helps maintain the tilted spiral, something that I have struggled with. Thanks... I'm going to check out "eye ball".

  • hi shawn, a friend of mine just introduced me to your videos. your lessons just make sence.

    thanks for helping.

  • Shawn, this lesson is the glue that holds everything, that you teach, together.

  • hello there shawn,

for a while now i have had big problems with moving my eyes away from the ball and too the right for the first part of the takeway in my swing, i do this more with the shorter clubs than i do with my driver. Doing this gets the club inside too much in my backwsing.

How can i solve this bad habbit/ problem?

    thanks in advance!

  • Very common issue and one I deal with on a daily basis! I have a section in my dvd on this specifically and a you tube video too;

Go to my website on the "you tube Shawn" page and check out the "Eye Ball" video...

    Thanks for the comment, Shawn

  • What Hdcap is Savy? Pure Tempo swing, vey nice!!

  • hi shawn,

i know it doesnt really have any relevance to this video but is it possible you could post a video on how to stop shanking my driver or give me some tips.

    thanks

  • I notice your daughters head takes off up/fwd in the follow-through. I wanted to ask about that because i happen to do the same thing. Watching video of my swing, my head stays well centered until about 1/4 into my follow through, and then it stops looking..well, good. Trying to hold it back too long just hurts - my back doesnt like to bend that far. Obviously i can improve that through stretching - but would you say that late in the follow through has much affect on ball flight?

  • Great Observation!

What you want to look at are the following videos: "Golf Pro Lesson Braced Tilt" "Golf Pro Lesson on the slopes" and look at the downhill lie and the uphill lie; The brace inside the left ankle and the support of the tilt coming from the right foot staying down through impact will allow your head to turn through the ball (very important for momentum) in it's own axis without your centre getting ahead of the ball...Let me know how you do!

  • this is one of the most annoying things in golf instruction. so many teachers tell us are head must stay perfectly still and stay down. i believe the singular focus on this can be very detrimental to the swing. not saying your video is bad, very good point made, but not a focus point, IMO

  • The purpose of this video is to help place more emphasis on the swivel of the butt towards the target so that the head can remain steady inside the feet...and yes, agreed that the worst tip that you can give a golfer is to keep the head STILL...noticed I said STEADY and turning in it's axis and making sure it stays inside the feet...Great comment, thanks! Shawn

  • this little girl is gonna be a pro 1 day cause her dad is the best teacher i ever saw . you see bHarman and Dleddbetter thare for pros and thare to hard to understand thare in it to make money clemshaw you make it easy

  • Many thanks for the tips. Your video has been added to GOLF LESSONS TV.

  • Shawn,

Your instructional videos are so good I am addicted to watching all of them. I am having a real tough time keeping both my head and body from getting offsides at the moment of impact. Do you have any additional drills I can do in my backyard or living room to prevent this?

    Keep up the good work!

  • In the backyard with the sun at your back so you can see the shadow of your body staying centered; and using your patio door or a full length mirror with a dry erase marker to make a mark to keep your head behind...Let me know how that goes!

And thanks for the kind words...Shawn

  • Hi Shawn, I think this is one of my problems, keeping the head still specially on the downswing, I think my head keeps getting ahead of the ball...I want to keep it behind the ball, its so hard! Maybe because I'm trying so hard to weight shift? When I do keep my head steady, I get a reverse "C" finish I feel my weight has not shifted to the left...Is this okay? is this reverse pivot? my resulting shots are nice, straight and long.

  • Have a look at my "Golf Pro Lesson Weight Shift" Video and you will understand how you are perceiving the weight shift...and if you look at the swings of Scott Verplank and Kenny Perry you will see that they keep the right foot down well into the follow through...

  • Thanks Shawn, Yes I saw your weight shift video, I was thinking that, maybe, I have indeed shifted my weight correctly because my arms "swung around" me correctly are already above my body or almost behind it at finish creating that "no weight shift sensation" or reverse "c" position...Its just that I am not in that "weight on the left foot and right leg hanging" finish position you are talking about...I feel I have my weight distributed 60/40 at finish.

  • I think I resolved my problem of the head moving ahead of the ball... after the left leg plants, the left shoulder is still under the chin.. so I let the body unwind and let the right shoulder go under the chin... this helped keeping the head behind the ball and I was able to release the club much more freely.

  • Super! Way to go man!

    Shawn

  • how far can she hit

  • She hits driver average 175; with the occasional one going to the base of the 200 yard marker...proud dad!:)

  • Once again Clemshaw provides a great instructional video!!! Thanks!

  • This is what I've been trying to ingrain in my swing. At the same tame I've been told not to get too far inside on my backswing. I'm working on the punch back example from one of your earlier videos.

  • Very Good Drill; helps move the body fluidly around the axis without pushing it to the side; You are on the right track! Shawn

  • Good to see the talent runs in the family. The kid is lucky to have a golf pro for a dad.

  • so, when your friend puts his hand on your head, do you want to focus on your normal backswing, or just make sure your head doesnt put pressure on his hand?

  • The later; make sure that your body turns in a way that does not put upward or side to side pressure on the hand; nor should it drop out from under it;

    Shawn

  • Great work again Shawn thanks

  • dude your videos are so helpful for me thaks alot your awesome

  • Thanx Shawn. Gold tips as always. Jay

  • Hi Shawn, all your tips are very useful Thanks a tone, I just got back from the driving range, my irons and hybrids are straight, but when I get to my taylormade burner driver, I'm not constant at all, either slice or something else goes wrong, I don't feel it, it's so long and the club face is not flat, it's like I need to put my arms higher so the clubface is flat?.. Is that normal? What is a good tip to be well placed with a driver? I need to hit more straight drives

  • Have a look at the "Golf Pro Lesson Driver Tip 2" and the "Golf Pro Lesson Set Up for Taut arms" Videos, they will illuminate the situation for you; Shawn

  • What do you mean she's a new golfer...lol...She has a better swing than most people I know.

  • Great tip. I have learned through lots of trial and error that head movement up/down, left/right is not good. I have got away with it going back some as long as it goes back to its original spot.

  • Clemshaw once again shows why he's the best!

  • Good lesson - I wish I had that swing!
