This is such a good documentary.Its so short yet it manages to pull us into their world and understand their troubles. I don't understand why society would reject these people. @mymarkis666 If the Genes were common amoung Europeans then Albinism would be common amoung Europeans. Albinism is all or nothing, you can't be half Albino, or a quater Albino. You can either produce a pigment or you can't, no middle ground. Europeans can produce pigments, many Europeans have Brown eyes, brown hair, freckles and can tan. These are all a result of Melanin. Blue eyes are also caused by melanin, just less of it.

oh my god, these video clips leave me filled with sympathy. i´ve made video art with albinos as a subject of my art for years, and there is something about them that just fascinates me. i have described the albinos in my work as crystals, because in fact they are not white, they are transparent (from an aesthetic point of view maybe, their hair is transparent though). and you know that when a light shines through a crystal, it reflects all colors of the spectrum!
As far as african countries go, the people in this video are relatively lucky to be living in Ghana.
In some countries in central-to-southern Africa, albinos get a real raw deal. A lot of them have been murdered because people think that they have magical powers, and that wearing their body parts etc. will give you magic powers. Another thing that has happened in the same area is the spread of an urban myth that sex with an albino will cure AIDS. Many albino women have been raped as a result.

@EquusFerrarius Well I've found out that every time I look up the Cradle of life(for Humans), (and after searching past the Lara Croft Movie(Cradle of Laugh)) The Mesopotamia keeps popping up. Because of the unique climate and because of the fertile land. Because of the Euphrates and Tigris. However the first Humanoid was found in North-South Africa, dubbed cradle of Humankind.

@map0915 Mesopotamia is the Cradle of Civilisation (wikipedia. Cradle_of_civilization) for the exact reason you said, it's climate was well suited to farming so humans could move beyond subsistence. I have never heard it referred to as the cradle of life. The first modern humans were from Ethiopia.

@TheKingShakaZulu We are not albinos. Albino is total lack we actually do have pigment. Also Albinos would still have black children because of dormant black pigment genes. There has been Albino white children however. We call them gingers......

From an outside perspective, I can't wrap my head around the discrimination and violence that Albinos face in some cultures. They're just PEOPLE, like everyone else! I have a very good friend who happens to be an albino, and aside from the fact that her skin is extraordinarily beautiful her albinism isn't seen as any more significant than having an unusual hair color- at least around here. It's one small trait of a complete person. We are all one human family.

In Ghana albinos are not persecuted like I've heard in other African nations. In Uganda they are being muerderd to be used for rituals. That is sad and horrible a thing for people to do. Of course kids may call them names on the street so that shows more sensitization should be put in place to stop this kind of behavior.

It is not surprise the mutation to gene caused all current european people lighter skin tone , that they could more absorb the d vitamine in less sun exposure then due time trait survived in non tropical climate.

@guesswhatist Yes but Europeans still produce Melenin, and the Albino Genes are rare amoung Europeans, so it is likely that Europeans lightened gradually over time through a process of natural selection, due to vitamin d as you say.

We have a alot of Albinos in my school in Nigeria and everyone wanted to hand out with them. I can believe people actually shun them, anyway that could be because they lived in the country
African cities for the most part are safe for albinos.

Thank companys like United Colors of Bennetton (EU) who use people of all race and creed in their ads. I seen an ad once of United Colors of Bennetton and they had just beautiful albinos in the whole ad, i thought it was unique different and very nice.

i am ghanaian and never known any albinos being teased growing up. Thanks for this video, because now i know (apart from the city of Accra where i was born and raised) some other parts are very ignorant and need to be educated, When i go backto ghana i will do whatever i can to educate others to stop teasing and making fun of albinos, they r humans just like we are. The lil girl at the end is so cute, Aww she is gorgeous.

oh my god, these video clips leave me filled with sympathy. i´ve made video art with albinos as a subject of my art for years, and there is something about them that just fascinates me. i have described the albinos in my work as crystals, because in fact they are not white, they are transparent (from an aesthetic point of view maybe, their hair is transparent though). and you know that when a light shines through a crystal, it reflects all colors of the spectrum!

As far as african countries go, the people in this video are relatively lucky to be living in Ghana.
In some countries in central-to-southern Africa, albinos get a real raw deal. A lot of them have been murdered because people think that they have magical powers, and that wearing their body parts etc. will give you magic powers. Another thing that has happened in the same area is the spread of an urban myth that sex with an albino will cure AIDS. Many albino women have been raped as a result.
