  • Johnny Walker used in the 90s too when on Radio 2s drivetime show before Chris Evans took it over..

  • Wallachs "Music City".....Sunset and Vine.....awesome. Am a former SFValley chap myself. Circa mid 50's thru 1993.....nothing better. Rock on.

  • We lifted the arm off the Dansette so this played over and over till Mum took the 45 and hid it!

  • Looove it what a classic!!!

  • gotta luv it , go duane

  • Love it! Nice blend of guitar & strings! One of the best instrumentals to come out of the 60's. THANKS for sharing this absolutely delightful "blast from the past" with us! :-)

  • One of the first guitar based records i ever heard on late night Radio Luxembourg all those many yrs ago. Inspirational.

  • Love this song! I still have my 45 record!

  • The String secton of The Los Angeles Philharmonic was used on this session. Duane, played the melody on a Danlectro Electric Bass Guitar that he purchased at Wallachs Music City (Now a Borders) on Sunset and Vine in Hollywood, Ca USA.

  • @onemikehart Somebody remembers, Wallach's MC, I remember going in there as a teen, you could go to a private and play a whole album then buy it--I tell folks about it and no one believes me. You must be an L.A. native, too!

  • @leesterg

I was a High School Student in the San Fernando Valley when I first went to Wallach's.

The reason that I went..was.to sit in the window playing my favorite music with my friends.

If you like the music from that era, go to kfxm.com and hear all of the music that you remember.

    Mike Hart

  • 1960, 11 yrs. old and not a care in the world. Thanks, this song just took me back.

  • this song reminds me of high school,I guess because of the movie.

  • Duane at his twanging best!

  • To finish off about Radio Caroline. They were gradually forced out of existence, mainly as a result of UK government legislation (encouraged by the record companies). Sunk to the bottom of the sea by the Royal Navy??!! Wwhhaatt???

  • Surely the posts about Radio Caroline (below) are a joke?! Radio Caroline broadcast for a couple of years ('64-'66 approx.) just far enough off the Suffolk/Essex coast to be just outside British territorial waters. It was termed as a 'pirate' radio station, 'pirate' in that the government viewed it as an illegal operation (although technically it was still legal). It broadcast rock/pop music, in contrast to the saccharine-sweet tunes that the mainstream UK stations were then broadcasting.

  • this is so hard to find in stereo...thank you

  • 1960 was the time when I was going to my senior prom

  • Holy Underwear, Batman! I've ALWAYS loved this instrumental tune by the fabulouslly talented Mr Eddy! I think I even saw the movie (with Dick Clark as the lead!) many years ago on local TV during one of those old "late late show" programs! THANK YOU for sharing this delightful "blast from the past" with us! :)

  • In the 60s this tune was often used to introduce "oldies but goldies", i.e. songs from the late 50s and the early 60s.

  • War die Erkennungsmelodie von

    'Radio Caroline'.

  • @grosvenori Radio Carolin, man I remember that when I was living and playing pro ice hockey in Holland i n1969-70. What ever happened to Radio Caroline ? It was a great radio station.

  • @212729h

Hallo, Radio Caroline was installed on a ship in the north sea near the

British coast. I live in the middle of Germany and could it hear only

in the dark, cause the weak waves were pointed to London.

As I know the honourable and powerful british Marine sank the ship to

    the bottom of the sea.

It was another great victory of the United Kingdom.

The whole story you will find at youtube. Just search for Radio Caroline.

    Best wishes

    grosvenori

  • @grosvenori Thanks very much for the info on Radio Caroline. Trust the British Navy to sink a good thing. I also remember there was another station called Radio Veronica. I believe it is still in operation. Any news on it ? Thanks again.

  • The orchestra was conducted by none other than John Williams!

  • brilliant

  • this tune used to introduce radio luxemburg a forerunner of commercial radio back in the 5o's

  • As good as it gets, the guitar king!

  • god this song is so kool

  • Was it composed by Lee Hazlewood?

  • 7" credits - Costa / Schroeder / Gold

  • Because they're Young was written by Aaron Schroeder and Don Costa. Lee Hazlewood did most everything else.

  • Did the shadows copy this.

  • My fave from the twangy guitar man I think, also like 40 Miles Of Bad Road.

  • One of the great sounds coming out of our transistor radios in the summer of 1960! Thanks for sharing it.
