Allan Zavod , an Austrailian of Russian descent , who said that he never had a piano lesson in an interview ,

    a natural talent !

  • @hieronomy I´m very sorry to tell you but, Zavod was classically trained on piano, and at the age of twelve he was taken on the road to the United States as his father's accompanist. He studied at the Melbourne Conservatorium Of Music and Berklee College Of Music in Boston, he is one the very doctor in music. I wish he wasn´t beacuse I could see some hope on me. cheers !!

  • @polosurf91

Well,I figured that must be some mistake because JLP is a dr of music for sure and everyone who ever played in any of his bands , I would think would be post doc !! I wondered for the last 35 years about the name Zavod , thinking it was French and was surprised to learn that it is Russian . Anyway Z is an all time great !

  • Many shows here in Brasil, great sound! His best music.

  • The music of the Gods...

  • I first saw Ponty at the Masonic Temple in Detroit in 1975 i was 16yrs. old his music just blew me away. And i saw him 4 more times after that. Ahhh the great memories i was so young and care free!

  • Very sweet! I haven't heard Jon Luc in many years.

  • he is my God...truly..

  • awesome

  • is this song Originally him?

  • @TheDarkbite Yes, for sure. Composed by J-L Ponty. Third track of the album "Enigmatic Ocean", recorded in 1977.

  • Jean-Luc! Jean-Luc! Use the Force, Jean-Luc!

  • The whole album is awesome but this is by far the best song on that album. The rhythm is so keen and different.

  • moog solo kicks ass!

  • @sheiffa: It"s an ARP solo! ;-D

  • @olmer77 oops, you're right. I've made a mistake cos I was only listening to audio and not watching the video ;p arp sounds a little bit similar to moog synthesisers, especially with some effects added. Anyway solo was amazing, thanks a lot for video and for correcting me ;)

  • So beautiful and inspired! I hope some music lovers find and enjoy some of these cosmic echoes through time and space. Thanks for sharing!

  • Ponty is the bomb.. Over 36 CD's and counting. Everyone of them is better than the next. I got to meet him several times at the IMAC Concert Hall in Huntington Long Island. But the place is closed now . He signed all 36 CD covers. That was a great time but there is No Absolute Time... Later Johnny G Long Island

  • This still sends me. I remember at the time thinking this was so edgy!

  • With all the respect mister Zvod, buts thats an ugly keyboard solo.

  • I don't care what he does itt's right

  • What a treat, thanks for posting.

  • Funny how many musicians can be traced back to Frank Zappa...Jean Luc and Alan Zavod

  • In 1984, a South African girlfriend gave me a cassette. Here, she said, you will like this. Her American boyfriend had recorded Jean-Luc Ponty on it. This was one of the pieces. I became an instant fan. Saw him in the 21st century in Montreal with Stanley Clarke and Béla Fleck as Trio! A·W·E·S·O·M·E

  • Is that Deryl Sturmer on guitar ?

  • zavods solo here is way better than in the album version!!!

  • bons anos aqueles no fim da década de 70. E ainda tive o privilégio de assisti-lo quando esteve aqui no Brasil.

  • A great artist and perfomer!!

  • C'est un chef d'œuvre cette pièce!

    8-)

  • you will also like music by an old timer named Demis Roussos... his music is quite unusual..somewhat eclectic; however, rhythmically and classically melodious.

thanks for the post...many good memories come alive with this tune.

  • such an amazing jam. just gets you

  • ONE LOVE JAH RASTAFARI FROM DREAD RASTA AND ISRAEL

  • Frank Z knew genius when he heard it. R.I.P. Z. - - Play On JLP.

  • I love Ponty...getting stoned and listening him makes my spirit just come out. One of the best musicians out there..

  • @TheCosmicHermit2112

i thought i was alone in space... might drop by your planet one of these days... need to fix my warp-drive though. Lots of Klingons out here.

  • Ponty is both good people and a great musician. Damn shame he doesn't get the radio play he deserves!

  • Some of the greatist musisians (I know I spelt it wrong) in the world. If you like this, see Andreaus Vollenweider.

  • Wow!

  • French music pride along with Magma !

  • Great to finally see a video of him playing that beautiful blue violin off of the "Passion" cover that I've adored all these years. I saw Zavod with Zappa in 1984. I was pleased to realize it was him, and then shocked to see him acting so crass. Then again, it WAS a Zappa concert. (RIP Frank).

  • A co-worker of mine was all into this guy back in the early half of the 80s. I think I ended up buying 3 or 4 of his albums. I still have the cassettes in amongst 300 or 400 other ones in a box in the closet. Every once in a while I try to look up some of these old groups on YouTube. Just a treasure-trove....

  • standing ovation - just greatful sound! JLP is a genius!

  • I believe Zavod's playing a 2600 as the keyboard looks like the (detachable) one from that unit. Note the lifting handle located center just below the keybed. It also had the pitch bend knob that Zavod uses in the solo.

  • anyone knows what is the keyboard Allan Zavod uses while soloing here ?

  • Comment removed

  • that key board player is actually sick

  • @FooFighterFix

    Alan Zavod

  • Old & Good!!! :)

  • This is the best song you can listen to on weed. Ponty seems to think so, cause you know he snoked a big fatty when he composed this one.

  • Awesome performance!! This man is brilliant.

  • Hi this john Giambalvo again. Just wanted to say that this one of my favorate cuts.

Some of Ponty's music just sweeps me away... Later from long Island...

  • @15h0tmy531f Huh?

  • this is music!

  • l-am vazut live la garana jazz fest in 2008,unde promova albumul life enigma.pana atunci nici nu am stiut ca exista. de atunci ascult ponty. extraordinar de relaxanta muzica, bine facuta.muzica elaborata. foarte tare.foarte frumos.

  • I remember seeing Keith Jones play a bass solo on this concert back in the 80's - anyone help me out with which track it was on? I just love Jean luc

  • I programmed Jean-Luc Ponty music on my station in the late 70's, to the chagrin of the owner. This music was one of the catalysts of The Crossroads of Jazz that was hosted by the fine crossover jock Jim St. John. This program may be revived on internet radio, if the licensing issues can be resolved between the hijacking group...Sound Exchange....and the net radio stations that do nothing but sell an endless amount of music for the artists.

  • If you poop in a shark"s mouth it won't eat you.

  • When I listen to this, I feel like I'm lost in a mirage. huh... ; )

  • Zavod kills the shit out of this

  • Ran into him on the street before a show.......... again. He was surprised anyone recognized him ! It is Important to recognize a genius when you see one,,

  • I've seen Ponty live with both the Mothers and Mahavishnu Orchestra. Very dynamic performer.

  • outstanding and beautiful music, i also came to ponty through zappa, in my humble opinion enigmatic ocean is the best with allan holdsworth on guitar.

  • There's my friend, Keith Jones on bass! Sure miss you Keith! Let's get in touch! (Anisa)

  • Moj ulubiony..mmmmmmm..genialne!

  • I first heard his music back in the mid-70s when I was high school. I've loved his music since then. What can you say about it, but that he's got to be the best jazz violinist, of course combined with the late Noel Pointer ever to perform. Great music. I went to Montreaux, Switzerland to the Jazz Festival in 1986 and 1987, but he was not performing. Would have love to have seen him perform.
