This is great I love Luc Ponty music there is another player of the Violinist his name is John E. Blake Jr..He played with the late great Grover Washington Jr.
Yesterday i wnt to his concert in Argentina, and when he started playing this song, I turn to my friend and said to him "I can't believe we're going to hear this live"... it was THE moment...
LOVE Ponty!!! Been a fan for a long long time, and his music never gets old! Rayford Griffin is one of my all-time favorite drummers! Amazing!!! I just saw RTF in September in Houston with Zappa Plays Zappa. Incredible show!
@hieronomy I´m very sorry to tell you but, Zavod was classically trained on piano, and at the age of twelve he was taken on the road to the United States as his father's accompanist. He studied at the Melbourne Conservatorium Of Music and Berklee College Of Music in Boston, he is one the very doctor in music. I wish he wasn´t beacuse I could see some hope on me. cheers !!
Well,I figured that must be some mistake because JLP is a dr of music for sure and everyone who ever played in any of his bands , I would think would be post doc !! I wondered for the last 35 years about the name Zavod , thinking it was French and was surprised to learn that it is Russian . Anyway Z is an all time great !
Es otro grande del jazz del mundo que visitará Lima Perú en noviembre 2011, como lo hicieran Chick Corea (2010), Michel Camilo, Arturo Sandoval, Abraham Laboriel y Alex Acuña el 17 de sept. 2011. I love this music.
Just love the groove & feel of this song. Steve Smith(Journey) played a great groove on the studio version. As you can hear that Rayford Griffin nailed this groove! Nice stuff here! TY RadioMix! I love this!
I first heard this tune at a Greek outdoor disco back in the late 70's and took a long time to track its origins....thanks for posting this :) wonderful track ,a desert island disc favorite, though i think the soloing on the album version is a little better.
I first saw Ponty at the Masonic Temple in Detroit in 1975 i was 16yrs. old his music just blew me away. And i saw him 4 more times after that. Ahhh the great memories i was so young and care free!
And to think I discovered this song back in the late 80s while getting stoned and drunk in some guys roached infested garage. Someone popped the 1979 live album into the cassette deck and I was hooked from then on. After all these years this music is still so powerfully moving!! Jean Luc Pony is timeless!!
@olmer77 oops, you're right. I've made a mistake cos I was only listening to audio and not watching the video ;p arp sounds a little bit similar to moog synthesisers, especially with some effects added. Anyway solo was amazing, thanks a lot for video and for correcting me ;)
Ponty is the bomb.. Over 36 CD's and counting. Everyone of them is better than the next. I got to meet him several times at the IMAC Concert Hall in Huntington Long Island. But the place is closed now . He signed all 36 CD covers. That was a great time but there is No Absolute Time... Later Johnny G Long Island
In 1984, a South African girlfriend gave me a cassette. Here, she said, you will like this. Her American boyfriend had recorded Jean-Luc Ponty on it. This was one of the pieces. I became an instant fan. Saw him in the 21st century in Montreal with Stanley Clarke and Béla Fleck as Trio! A·W·E·S·O·M·E
you will also like music by an old timer named Demis Roussos... his music is quite unusual..somewhat eclectic; however, rhythmically and classically melodious.
thanks for the post...many good memories come alive with this tune.
Great to finally see a video of him playing that beautiful blue violin off of the "Passion" cover that I've adored all these years. I saw Zavod with Zappa in 1984. I was pleased to realize it was him, and then shocked to see him acting so crass. Then again, it WAS a Zappa concert. (RIP Frank).
A co-worker of mine was all into this guy back in the early half of the 80s. I think I ended up buying 3 or 4 of his albums. I still have the cassettes in amongst 300 or 400 other ones in a box in the closet. Every once in a while I try to look up some of these old groups on YouTube. Just a treasure-trove....
I believe Zavod's playing a 2600 as the keyboard looks like the (detachable) one from that unit. Note the lifting handle located center just below the keybed. It also had the pitch bend knob that Zavod uses in the solo.
