Bush could of left the Presidency as a bad ass genius if he'd of just brought back the Cold War era sized ground forces and just bombed the shit out of specific targets using the Air Force and CIA. We could of avoided the occupations and nation buildings of Iraq and Afghanistan by taking out the heads of states efficiently and not by the solider of fortune model. That's just my opinion.
I've never met anyone of any age who asserted the US and the Germans were at ANY point on the same side...I swear people make up worlds so they can be great or smart in something....
@Sudhish86 Yeah I don't know anybody who thinks that. But we did put innocent Japanese and German Americans in internment camps. We did needlessly nuke two japanese cities and the Bush family helped fund Hitler.

The options are: a) keep on with the war with unforesseable death totals, including some of your own; or, b) put your foot down, maximize leverage, potentially minimalize overall deaths, and end militant engagement with the Japanese. It was clearly a good move. You don't risk anything of yours if you don't have to. The Japanese shouldn't have engaged us in war if they weren't prepared to deal with any response on our part. They started; we finished them. boo hoo.
bullshit. The US effectuated an oil embargo against Japan and funded the Kwantung army. This is how US foreign policy operates, on indirect provocation. In the end, the US gets a greater presence in east asia and still looks like the good guy. While I abhor the actions of imperial Japan, to say the attack on Pearl Harbor was unprovoked is dishonest and ignorant.
@garagsale, I guess this would come down to what warrants engaging in war. I suppose if the need for oil was great, dealing with an embargo through some sort of forceful measures is necessary. Before I change views, I'll have to read up on it again. I'll need to see what the overall limitations were for japan and what measures they took to negotiate with the us before striking. I'll respond again soon.
