fertilizer for garden, food for chickens, less garbage, what's not to like about this, one of the most sensible things to do. don't need shtf for this to be a great idea.
@thespaniard47 Thanks! I think it's absolutely essential to learn how to garden before you actually NEED to garden. I learned a lot from this experiment with my tomatoes and peppers. I'll be doing a video on that soon...
Don't need a fancy valve just some holes in the bottom container so it will drain the tea into a tub that can be poured into a jug everday; simple as that.
@YoungAndPrepping Yes, just have to look at the little # inside of recycle symbol. In fact I haven't found any of these containers that aren't food grade. I'm sure there are some but I didn't find any. Some are not marked and therefore I didn't use them.
@YoungAndPrepping Dont' know, they died anyway because they froze. Forgot to bring them in one night when it was going down to about 25 degrees. I didn't put fertilizer in with potatoes anyway. When using them for other veggies, fertilizer just like earthbox does.
using an anglestop would reduce thread width down to less than a half an inch. Otherwise with that hose bib your using, drill a hole slightly smaller than the 3 quarter iron pipe threading on that bib, and thread directly into the plastic only using the first 4 to 5 threads.
@MegaKg9 you know it! I'll have to come over and check them out. Weapons, check. Food, working on more. Water, on a well but need to gather means to store it. Rice is up a dollar a bag (50lb) at Sams Club in the last month. Get your food, get your guns/ammo!!!
@MegaKg9 I'll bet! I'm thinking of using them to replenish my potting mix in my buckets/container garden instead of just tossing it every growing season. It'll be hard to find if SHTF so I'm trying to think ahead. Also great for fishing! My brother has a bunch of chickens and these will be great to grab a handful and throw into the coup for protein supplementation for his chickens. He'd need a bigger set up though I think.
That air vent thing is a good idea...
