..behind someone else's idea of "shock value". I was talking to an older gentleman, classy and a war vet who taught history all his life, and he said "there will continously be envelopes pushed and pushed and pushed, until you find yourself at a theater watching porn with your children, but by then who would know the difference.." art is art, business is business, let's keep 'em seperate. thanks.
I can agree that Nicki Minaj is getting watered down But she's done enough to win the Best New Artist Grammy, IMO. Her best work was, ironically,a song that had BonIver on it: Kanye West's "Monster". If anyone can listen to that verse and not respect the craft on it- they're speaking from the margins of sanity and consistency. The wordplay, accents, narrative- its a technically exceptional specimen. She should stick to that- still she had a breakthrough year in a male-dominated genre.
i like j cole as a true artist, and i like nicky minaj's OLD stuff before she was on young money because she was real and was nice, not the new fabricated statue with a synthol injected ass sitting on a frozen ice motorcycle.. nicky minaj doesn't deserve a prestigous award now, especially when compared to the likes of bon iver.. who doesn't even show his face in a music video and connects to your soul no matter who you are or where you're from.. that is a true artist.. not someone who hides...
So thankful for having got to meet him/got my picture taken with him after he won Best Alternative album of the year at the Grammy's. Such a great experience meeting my idol. He was the most humble and nice out of anyone there.
I can honestly say that I like all forms of music, but I've never sat and just listened to anyone's music as I have Bon Iver's, the first one I got (this one) I put on repeat and layed in my bed for hours in a state of melancholy happiness.
@JDic24 : We're not going to agree here. I'm pretty sure that you have a low opinion of all rap that can probably be traced back to a narrow cultural experience. As someone with a broad appreciation of all types of expression, art, music... I can say that those two were robbed for "Best New Artist". I think Saturday Night Live summed Bon Iver up nicely: Boring. The only time that he wasn't was when Kanye West recruited their aesthetic for My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. (I.J.S.),others agree.
@synch1216 Again thats our opinions, on the contrary in my perspective you would be the one with a "narrow cultural experience" , what form of expression is niki minaj using?, she prances around shouting obscenities and dressing up like lady gaga, she is auto-tuned out the ass, has no real vocal talent. and ive experienced rap culture and hated it, rapping about none sense like "super bass" and her god awful grammy performance show her lack of actual talent, and i would expect you to defend rap.
Be honest. Can any one of you understand even a SINGLE word in this song? No you can't. Bon Iver is an overrated idiot who sings oh-so-emotional songs that sound like Phil Collins B-sides. SNL was dead on with their parody of him last night. You can't understand a word he says and his music is incredibly boring. It's also very contrived and cliched.
@riggymsu OMG LOL UR SO FUNNY HAHA. Coldplay and Bon Iver are boring as hell. This is my opinion. Sorry your blind hero worship makes you so eager to tell an internet stranger to go kill themselves. Thinking must be sooo hard for you, knee jerk reactions are so much easier, aren't they? Anyway, thanks for reading, you can now go back to listening to your boring ass music and drinking your Pabst. Oh and go kill yurself lawl. :P
@DWHarper62 What is an "MDMA"? Personally, I don't even really pay attention to the lyrics but allow the raw, emotive quality of the music and sound of his voice to move me emotionally. It helped me write a poem yesterday as I was also playing "rainymood(dot)com.
Anyone know the old 80's song that sounds EXACTLY like this?? I've been killing myself trying to figure it out. Literally the notes and tune are the same, but I can't remember the lyrics. I can't be the only one....it's especially true for the last line of each verse, i.e "I was only for the father's crib". If someone knows the song please tell me!
@therewillbemud I can understand your frustration, but cadences repeat in pop music - its inevitable. There are only so many notes available. I think I know which melody you're referring to, but I'm reluctant to search for it. But perhaps you could start with Bruce Hornsby. I read somewhere that Justin Vernon appreciates his music.
Freaking musical genius. Such beauty and perfection... Bon Iver is without doubt the best thing that has happened to my musical life. Keep on rocking Justin! :)
I dunno how to dislilke this song...shame on u

Dear Bon Iver fans,
And members of the general public alike,
If you can spare a minute,
Do yourself a favour,
Type ‘CASTLECOMER’ into your search bar.
A gift from me to you – share it with the world.
Regards,
A kind stranger.

Put down the MDMA, people, before you turn in to this guy. Incredibly infantile music with incomprehensible lyrics and I am guessing a fried brain.
