There is still a script of John Milius for a Conan 3 Movie: "King Conan"
Not made until now :-((( But there is still hope for the future...because the new Conan movie shall have sucessors...
Maybe the takt a good script, after the new Conan 3 D movie flopped at the USA an in the first two weeks in Germany also...so maybe they take - if they have sucess at the DVD and Video sector - the script of John Milius...
the new conan movie sadly is just disappointingly bad. horribly bad. it has some good moments but overall it's just plain bad. seems like a 5 year old moron directed this. if this really has any successors, i don't want to live on this planet anymore!
@MiregalForges Brother, you speak the truth, I concur on every point, I had to go home and re-watch the original Conan the Barbarian just so I could sleep soundly.. I'm sure Crom was angered by this pitiful offing.
i didnt really like Red Sonja...i thought it was boring and cheesy... for the love of god i cant understand why they havent made another Red Sonja or why didnt they make more Conan movies ...damn,i hate it when studios screwup things like that. Conan 2 sucked ballz
Ennio Morricone did a great job on great movies, Clint Eastwood is a great actor, the spaghetti westerns are awesome, and the film Red Sonja is totally cool as well, now stop the trolling you trolls - if you don't like this stuff then why the hell do you watch it in the first place?
Ennio does a cheap movie...this time with Arnie and Bridgette Neilson.......never mind the actors!!!!! Nerd Says: Red Sonja was a charter rape by Marvel. The original, Howrad, near more correctly spelt character, was a gunpowder era cutlass, lass of a reaver, defending her family and Rougataine. Sonya of Rougataine, or i may be just guessing. Frankish maiden...Maybe even French, who knows? Definitely not a what we got to witness on screen.
Red Sonja was made in 1985 but looked as it was early 60's. Visual effects were bad and the acting was poor. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Brigitte Nielsen can't act at all so I guess they focused on their look and YEAR - Arnold and Brigitte looked sexy and very hot that time but I still must admit that Elvira, Mistress of the Dark (1988), Legend (1985), Sheena (1984) and Big Trouble in Little China (1986) were much more interesting and with better visual effects
How do you know? Have you heard all 400 EM scores?
Poledouris' Conan suffers from Bigger = Better. Which fits the movie, of course. Which is just a B-movie, of course, considering the subject and the actors. Morricone's Sonja is slightly more subtile and elegant.
Red Sonja fails on all levels in relation to the movie, that's true. But even Prokofiev and Alex North (after which Basil styed his Conan) knew their bad hair days. No one ever said to them, you're overrated.
EM was never the StarWars sort of comp. His Oeuvre Oscar was meant as an honour, Euri's consider it close to an insult. The old problem: there's Euro and USA filmmusic, and never the twain shall meet. And yet:: Americans always had a soft spot for the most subtile of Euro scorers:GeorgeDelerue.
No, one does not have to LIKE Morricone's style.. But to dismiss his enormous versatility and musical intelligence as overrated? I'm sure Basil thinks high of Ennio. Lots of musicians do.
Filmscores are written to SUPPORT movies and I admit that Poledouris has more feeling with productions like Conan, but try to peel the Sonja music away from the images. What you have then is a rich and elegant and romantic symphony. That the march ill-fits the Kalidor character does not mean that it's bad music. It's a carefully constructed piece, and as a march it's brisk and exciting, and has a catching melody. Morricone is an acclaimed master specifically in appealing themes.
The epic bearing of this theme is awesome, but the choir at half the piece is too remindful of the spaghetti western atmosphere and I believe it kind of spoils the sword and sorcery feeling
@Deisinoful Oddly, the movie would have been considerably worse without this nice "spaghetti-western" theme and the beautiful Abruzzo settings. Like most of the movies starring Arnie, it is funny to watch because it's so bad, so goofy but sincere nevertheless. Todays' low-budget CGI craps like Clash of the Titans remake are just unwatchable.
@deusirae76 actually the theme is cool, particularly in its brass treatment. The ohh ohh part, however, spaghettizes excessively the athmosphere, imho
@Deisinoful I rather think it adds some epicness, I don't see it as a "spaghetti western" choir. These choirs are somewhat majestic, lighter than Conan's soundtrack (like the movie itself), it fits perfectly the beauty of the Abruzzo mountains.
@deusirae76 lol, that way you might as well to confer epicness to the whole by resorting to zampognari (Abruzzo's bagpipe players) tunes while Conan is swinging the sword. Just kidding, I accept your point of view, of course
Quite right. The more I hear of the music, the more I feel that this score belongs to another movie. El Cid or Warren Beatty's Reds or one of these never ending Robin Hood remakes.
Someone here descibed the trumpet as 'silly'. As if only a tuba or alpine horn fits Mr Universe. Well, listening to it whithout Arnie's silly head in view might help appreciate it better...
@dedeurs while I find insightful of you the supposition that the piece wasn't written for this movie, I'm not sure I concur with you on your particular observation about the trumpet. In order to conveying a "barbaric" feel the brass would be my natural resort if the soundtrack were up to me. And frankly I like the sharp phrasing of the trumpet
No. that's not what I mean. It was written for RS, just as the Hundra score was for thát film. It just fits not well. (and I absolutely HATE the 'Sonja, Sonja' chant)
EM should have copied Poledouris more, but he has this ego. He made such consessions only once before: for Carpenter's The Thing. An utterly Morriconean score, and at the same time it maintains the trademarking Carpenter sound.
On top of this, on the record the Red Sonja suite is badly edited.
And this trumpet...I never saw Red Sonja, but I feel the instrument is a bit too chirpy, too 'small' for the scope of the movie. Someone else stated that the RS score 'misses muscles', I think he's right. I don't care much for Poledouris's loud, overblown music, but with the Conan series he did a more adequate job. It's simple as that.
@Aelkamal hahahah...the film wasnt so bad...i mean,it wasnt a good film, but is one of the films of the 80l's that we hate to love!all these films are awesome for one reason:they awake a lost and magic Era!im not meaning conan's and robert howard's universe,im talking about the 80's itself...honor and glory to the 80's

Have to agree with another poster that Basil Poledouris should have scored this movie. Morricone's musisc is very good, but the style isn't quite right. It needs Poledouris' or Goldsmith's more muscular and percussive approach
They should leave movies like this alone as they'll never do as good a job even if they use the latest special FX's, as thats not with this kind of movie was about.

I had not seen it in years, I thought I was seeing a new film then after a bit I thought wait I've already seen this!! So i went on Wikipedia and realised my confusion, it's because in Italy the film is called "Yado" after Kalidor's character, for some reason they changed his name, so I didn't connect the italian title with the original "Red Sonja"
great film, the Ennio Morricone soundtrack is great, one of my favourite films as a child even though I knew it as Yado. Director Rodrigues is producing a remake, it should be out next year!
the music fits so well here. the movie is not as dark and serious as conan, and so is the music: lighter, happier. but i can´t say i prefer one better than the other
You're the one that's dense. A score from Basil Poledouris would have afforded this movie and these characters the theme they deserve. This peice screams "Mexican gunslinger" not, I say again, NOT "badass barbarian warrior".
Compair this to the Conan soundtracks and you'll see I am right.
I agree with you when you say Basil's score from Conan is badass, but I really enjoyned the music in this film, specially this one - and back when I watched this crappy movie I'vent heard of Morricone yet. So, I think these scores just have a completelly different feeling behind it. You can't compare both songs, as you can't compare both characters.
And this was, from all movies based upon Robert E. Howard's characters, the most faithful to REH's conception - no problem if SonYa (16th Century) was changed in a post-Hyborian Vanir/Aesir/Hyperborean-blooded SonJa. It's more faithful to Howard than portraying her like a Hirkanian woman, like in Marvel Comics.
The first time - it was before Conan The Barbarian and Conan the Destroyer - I saw Arnold Schwarzenegger in a movie was when he played Lord Kalidor, riding a horse under this music's sound. I'll never forget that wonderful scene! :) Thank you, redsonja5, for posting this music in You Tube.

JadenTube 1 year ago
well the director of the conan movies had plans for three instead of two. there's still the plans for one last movie floating around out there.
there was talks about it. in fact, HHH was up for the part of conan, but for some reason it was scraped.
omacron6 2 years ago
sorry to ask i knw its a stupid question but who is HHH
Docklandjackass 2 years ago
triple h, the wrestler.
omacron6 2 years ago
ohh lol thanks

no problem
omacron6 2 years ago
HHH or Triple H is a wrestler in WWE.
HHH stands for Hunter Hearst Helmsley.
His original gimmick was that of the kind of person You see Fox hunting.
If I remember correctly his Valet during this time was Debra who went on to marry Stone Cold Steve Austin.
DarkLordDiablos 2 years ago
his valet was Sable. And thank God, he's not going to be Conan now.

I was so crazy about this film when I was younger so I watched it the other day for the 1st time in years, and u know what? I LOVED it!!! x x x

the music fits so well here. the movie is not as dark and serious as conan, and so is the music: lighter, happier. but i can´t say i prefer one better than the other
the following comparison comes to my mind:
morricone - mozart
poledouris - beethoven (or richard wagner)

ENNIO MORRICONE is the best compositor of the univers !

and basil poledrius as well !

@danuuuz Basil IS CONAN!!!

Ennio butchered the esence of this movie.
When hearing this I picter Clint Eastwood in a sombrero, not Arnold Swartszenegger with a broadsword.
busterread 2 years ago
Are you dense? He's the goddamn morricone
reeyees50 2 years ago
You're the one that's dense. A score from Basil Poledouris would have afforded this movie and these characters the theme they deserve. This peice screams "Mexican gunslinger" not, I say again, NOT "badass barbarian warrior".
Compair this to the Conan soundtracks and you'll see I am right.
busterread 2 years ago 3
I agree with you when you say Basil's score from Conan is badass, but I really enjoyned the music in this film, specially this one - and back when I watched this crappy movie I'vent heard of Morricone yet. So, I think these scores just have a completelly different feeling behind it. You can't compare both songs, as you can't compare both characters.

Love this I named my character in WoW Kalidor I was suprised no one else had it :P I must make a video of him and use this music.
acidheadx 3 years ago
maybe because it sounds a tad too much like the continent Kalimdor... on second thought stuff like that hasn't stopped other name ripoffs :p

I also watched this movie as a kid and it got stuck in my mind for many years later.
And recently I saw it again and was all coming back to me in a second.
It's a great movie to watch no matter what all the medias were saying about it then...
zabarcuc 3 years ago
is kalidor conan
lakotadak 3 years ago
Kalidor was meant to be Conan in this movie 'cause Arnold had a contract to make 3 Conan movies, but it never passed and so Kalidor was born.
But the essence of the character is Conan

What to say, close your eyes and enjoy!!! This was my fovorite movie from my childhood! I watched it several times in theatre. RED SONJA RULES!!!
igorse15 3 years ago 2

Yup same thing. Though I had already seen both Conans. This scene you're refering to though will always stay in my mind!
