Does anyone have the slower version of "Search me Lord" or am I much older than everyone else...and no one else remembers the slow version? (big smile)
Why is it that on the detroit remembers 2 on the st. James songs why arent they being directed by any st. James directors and why hasnt the Lords prayer been done.
You get the same answer you received when you asked a few pages ago. You sound very frustrated. Are YOU gay??? Do you think peoople cant push the back button and see that YOU instigated this SAME mess months ago?? Please do us all a favor and grow up!
Fantastic Song - An Edwin Hawkins (COGIC) Arrangement from the album MORE HAPPY DAYS - My favorite Nicks song is "Hold Back the Night" that we perform here in Italy...a worldclass Mussician/composer/ arranger*****
Hearing this song the first word that comes to mind is St. James Adult Choir on Mack & Mt. Elliot n Detroit Back n the day. & Charles Nicks was thee best on the organ & even to this day & time! But i tell u what,Rev. Andre Woods playing the organ to this song now makes it talk just like Charles Nicks did. Andre Woods was just 1 of the great muscians that St. James had back in the day & 4 that reason it is why they could not be outdid! They had it all The best choir Detroit had in the 70's & 80's
This song takes me back to when I was actually a member as well as a drummer of this church that this video was taped back during my high school days in the 80's. Of course this is the newer church, the old one of which I actually attended was across the street from this one and was torn down(boo hoo). Our adult choir used to sing this song on their Sunday to sing. I missed doing the Sunday afternoon fellowship with St. James and going to their third Sunday night musicals. Those were the days!
This choir and this music is the best. I miss this way of worship. This kind of talent and music is rare these days.
Some of the most talented men and women and they impacted millions of lives and taught us what gospel music was all about. I have a debt to others like them in my own home state that loved me and accepted me as a white man. It was so special to sing and play in those churches. Playing the Hammond Organ for a dynamite black choir is one of the greatest blessings you can have.
@SP567 well me personally, I am Straight, I have no problem with gay people, but far as being over or in any minitries in the church, I dont tink they sould be because it sends mixed signals to people. yes the bible teaches against homosexuality, but i will NEVER EVER hate someone because of thier life style.....its just not right. if you have a pastors souldnt ridecule people because they are gay, they sould take them in and teach them what the bible says not what they say.
This version of "Search Me Lord" was recorded by Edwin Hawkins and the Edwin Hawkins Singers. For the most part, it seems to be Mr. Hawkins arrangement. However, Rev. Nicks added the "Detroit rock", and made it more of a choir arrangement, as only he could. Most choirs sing Rev. Nicks version. The song itself, goes way back, very likely to the early Chicago era of gospel, possibly to Kenneth Morris and First Church, but I am not sure. The original version sounded nothing like this.
Rev. Nicks wrote great songs, he helped many people, and he was always sincere in whatever he did. God alone will judge him, but just like the woman that was caught in adultery who deserved death, Jesus gave her mercy. I've met him many times and heard many of his sermons and seen many lives turn toward the Lord because of the ministry God entrusted to him. I am so happy that I met such a human man who always pointed me and others to God.
All I got say is that I enjoyed listening to the late and great organist Rev. Charles Nicks. That man knew that the Lord anionted him to play the organ. I would like to know where can I get either some infomation and some either dvd or cd of his music cause he has to be add to my collection of old gospel music.
I think Kenneth Morris or somebody from the Chicago group around First Church of Deliverance (Wabash Ave). That's where I used to hear it a lot (years ago). Certainly not Donnie McKlurkin. This old style gospel.
Im wondering why nobody from Detroit post and videos of St.James, Prayer Tabernacle, and Craig Memorial Tabernacle..The world needs to see and hear the legacy of music that came from these powerful pastors, Rev. Nicks, Bishop and Dr. Craig and Rev. Cleveland..This was the real stuff..
Videos of the individuals you listed are posted on youtube. Go to the top of this page, in the search area, type in Rev. Nicks or any of the other people you mentioned and see what happens. Detroit is well represented on YouTube.
Thanks since I posted that 1 yr ago, somebody has blown the place up with all those good clips esp of St.James..Not any from Old P.T. and Craig Memorial..Pretty much only Bishops homegoing celebration..But thanks for getting back with me..
was it true that charles nicks was gay and died of aids?
**NO ! HE DIED OF LACK OF OXEGYN AND HEART FAILURE..CHECK THE RECORED..WE WILL ALL DIE OF HEART FAILURE..@CDESAH1188..Who's covering up your bad habits..Maybe we that person to post yours on here..You sound like a miserable lonely person that can't get a man..U need Jesus!
nigga shut ur mouth I just asked a question! That rumor has been going on for 20 years about nicks being gay so dont blame me for just asking you queen!
And you need to know why? Ask God if he feels you need to know he will answer you prayer request..If you momma died of lung cancer would it matter she smoked ? Would you have a problem with people asking that question 20yrs later? As for the N word..Man be glad this is the internet..
Why ask me, since already know..Just remember this 'You Know Where You've Been, But You Don't Know Where You're Going'. Is it that serious, the mans been dead for years..Did the doc give YOU some bad knews ? If know you're dying and dont even know at least spiritualy..Hate is cancer..
cdesha1118, The answer to your question is No, Rev. Nicks did not die from AIDS. I don't know if he had AIDS, however. But people with AIDS do not die from AIDS, but from bacteria, and other viruses that the body can no longer fight off. AIDS in the Black community is affecting mostly Black women these days. The spread of this virus can be prevented. So we do need to discuss it in our churches and communities in a positive way, and educate ourselves. It does not have to spread.
Rev Nicks' arrangement of this song is really the best there is. He was one of the best. If he were gay, so what? The Bible tells us not to question how God makes us. And Christ welcomes all people into HIS family, just as they are. Please cdesha1118, don't allow demonic spirits to use you to divide and tear the Body of Christ apart. Besides, you are in no position to judge anyone with the life you are leading.
The Bible tells us that God is maker and judge all by himself, and does not require an assistant. We come to this site to lift up the name of the Lord-not to tear others apart, spread rumors, and lie on the saints. Step back from this finger pointing, and focus your eyes upon Jesus. Direct your attention on Him. You will see a difference in your life! I know this to be 100% true.
Are there any vidoes or tapes that you have from back in the day..I'd be really intertested in that..Who was the ministry of music when you were there ? The VOT have been on of my favorite choirs of all times..

Lets talk about the truth! I was just asking questions about something and then you give me negative comments. How is that having something bad to say? What is true is what is true! So you cant make me a bad comment based on what is true!
Just like a black person to give you a negative comment when people start telling the truth about things. Why cant people just FACE the truth and stop trying to hide stuff? They hid behind Cleveland and his nasty behind and now they doing the same thing with Nicks! Yall stop trying to cover up these folks bad habits!
It was said that he and Rev. Cleveland both died of that disease, but does it really matter. That will be between them and the JUDGE and whether or not they repented of their sins. What really matters is the legacy both of them left. They are truly pillars in Gospel Music. I miss hearing that St. James Choir. Even the minister of Music, Jimmy Dowell, passed away about 2 yrs ago.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Oh yes they were both pillars. Jimmy Dowell was gay too? Wow. I heard that the name of the Saint James Church was changed because the new pastor wanted to get rid of that homosexual stigma!
Pastor Jennings changed the name of the church because he said God was moving him in a new direction. AWAY from the past (in its entirety) not just ONE stigma. ALL of them. To God Be The Glory! We were bound to grow up one day! The Church (WORLDWIDE) needs to take inventory because the children ain't the only ones in sin.
