@simonh3rd How about Earth,Wind and Fire? Commodores in that era were at the top of their game. Still like the "Caught In The Act" album the best...Sweet Love is probably my favorite cut along with "Brickhouse" !!!
I had this song on a 45. It was,if I am not mistaken, the B side of "Brickhouse". I played brickhouse for a very long time before even wondering what was on the other side. Usually there is always a surprising good song on the B side of any hit. I began to further respect Walter Orande as a drummer because of the diddy and due to the fact he had a double bass drum setup like a heavy metal band. I thought that was cool for a black group. To me the 70's was a great time for R&B.
I HAD THE ANTHOLOGY ON CASSETTE..LOST IT..AND WAS LOOKING FOR A SONG NAMED (SO I THOUGHT)CEREBRU..SMH..MUST'VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT THE X-MEN/SPIDER-MAN & HIS AMAZING FRIENDS EPISODE..LOL..
ganksta nips's psycho brought out the roughness of this video,...i love the commodores but any nigga whillign to turnh a classic into an anthem is a mutha fkcin gee' !!!! theres no point in this comment, im just in a bloody thirsty mood to kill my 3 month old niece
I first heard this on American Pimp and have been trying find it everywhere..........I actually thought the Blackbyrds made it...but this a Commodores trademark......thanks for posting!!!
@jfilesbooks - Same here, I love the drum solo. The song reminds me of the 007 movies. It was nice, though, when all the bands used to include instrumental cuts on their albums. It's so hard to believe people can't get into pure music, without vocals, anymore.
the commodores came to cebu, philippines in the mid-70's. that was on their tour of the first album. the next album, contained this song. i remembered reading in an interview that they had a great time here that they wrote this song. by the way, i must have been 13 or 14 then.

Great post the Commodores always had some great instrumentals. On the tangent but what is the name of the song in the beginning before CEBU it sound like Mos Def but idk.
I actually heard this 1st as a sample.Used by Houston (South Park) rapper Gangksta N.I.P. The song is called "Psycho".It's also used in a segment in the documentary "American Pimp" directed by The Hughes Bros.Good upload !
@pierrerichard7777 some how the song sounds a bit like that...i dont know if it was actually the tempo of the song.. played and recorded on a slightly off beat like james brown would do, of if it is just a 'flaw' in the recording itself...my old lp sounded like that, so its definitely on the album like that intentionally or otherwise
This song always reminds of theme songs from 70s crime dramas.

Love the drum solo, though.

No, the B side to "Brickhouse" is "Captain Quickdraw" which is another rare gem from the Commodores.

Back in the day The Commodores, Ohio Players, Parliament/Funkadelics and James Brown were the only R&B artists albums I would religiously buy.
