03-04 team Ryan Malone Brooks Orpik Milan Kraft Aleksey Morozov Rico Fata Dick Tarnestrom Matt Bradley Mike Eastwood Kelly Buchberger Dan Focht Ric Jackman Drake Berehowsky Josef Melichar Landon Wilson Lasse Pirjeta Konstatntin Koltsov Eric Meloche Sebastien Caron Jean Sebastien Aubin Andy Chiodo Tom Kostopolus Tomas Survouy Martin Strbak Ramzi Abid How far the Pens have come- lol though like I said some of these guys were fun to watch and had talent
Even though the Pens were a bad team during this time they were still fun to watch. Because even though they went out everynight and pretty much got their ass kicked they fought with alot of heart everynight and they did have some outstanding individual players on that team. Morzov, Tarnestrom, Malone, Kraft, just to name a few. I think Brooks Orpik and Marc-Andre Fleury are the only two people left from that team. I wonder what happened to most of these guys and where they are now?
Man that all feels like such a long time ago. I was really disappointed Malone didn't have the chance to raise a Cup with the Pens last season. Rough couple years there, but it was still the Pens, and thats all that mattered.
ha. i know. i remember getting made fun of for loving the pens. "they suck. get over it." "no, they're just rebuilding. you'll see in a few years." Now no one seems to remember saying that, haha
This video makes me tear up. Check out Morozov at 3:35 showing off his Pens logo to the fans. This team might not have had a lot of skill but they worked their asses off night in night out and were proud to play for the Pens. There's something to be said for going from last in the league to Stanley Cup champions in five years.
i remember they beat Phoenix in OT to win their first in 18... i had Center Ice this year too. caught 79 of 82 games! Konstantin Koltsov was my fav.. and was my all time fav #71... even though Geno is 1000000 x better. lol. 2009 STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS!!
this was the first season i had nhl center ice and i watched every single game. despite the fact they are much better now, i have soft spot in my heart for that team.
These guys gave it their all and built up good karma for the Penguins, the benefits of which we're now reaping. Awesome.
Actually, I really liked playing these kids in NHL 2004 on PlayStation. The Penguins of 2008 are a huge improvement in real life, but in a video game it was actually a lot of fun to start from nothing. :p
If you were a penguin fan during this era, your a true fan, I myself, loved wathcing ever single game during this season, I loved watching the players devolop, and I knew that they were going to be a huge force in the future..
yea dude I watched every single game that year , that was a painful year but you know what I liked that team because they never quit and packed it in even when they had an 18 game losing streak they still played with heart and resliency every night and they finished strong too they went like 12-5-2 to finish the year, but you know what it was worth it that year we drafted Malkin and 4 years later went all the way to the Cup Finals and fell just two wins short of winning it, someday we'll get it
many fond memories as well. i liked this era so much because you didnt have to pay hundreds of dollars to see a hockey game and they gave their hearts out. they were just not talented enough.
that season...was spectcular. i don't care that we lost a ton in a row, or that the playoffs didn't happen. watching those guys compete night after night, long after they were done, with no real superstars...morozov and fata and malone...and tarnstrom...with edzo behind the bench being firey...i loved every second of that season.
technically we are both right. there were two drafts after this season because of the lockout. since we were so bad, we got malkin and crosby! but you are right, geno was first

When Orpik hoisted the Cup, I couldn't help but wonder if all those years as a Penguin flashed through his mind, especially that year.
