Great video and great synth! I want to buy a new synth, but also this one... cause I'm in love with the voice "african angels"... is there any possibility to get this sound in any other synth? or are there new korg's with that sound included?
@Gonenashvili I don't know the answer to your question, but I doubt it. The Korg X50 keyboard contained some overlapping sounds with the MicroX, but I don't know which ones. Newer Korgs are built with a different sound engine than the one heard here.
Hello really nice of you to show all the great sounds of the Korg, you are the reason why i just bought one :)
But i have a slight problem, i wonder why my sounds arent as yours ? I locate the combi and try it but it doesn't sound like yours at all! Im guessing its something about the Arpegiator that i cant figure out ! Any tips ?
Thanks for your reply, no i bought mine slightly used! There seemed to be some hangup in the Arpegiators and after a factory reset works like a charm :)
@mic4rap - I've got microx and once polayed on micron - they've got different purpose. Korg is a kind of rompler. Alesis kind of virtual analog - they are for different things.
Oh wow. you should hook it up to an 88 key controller. Just a quick question. how do you feel about using controllers, and buying just the rackmount versions of synths...vs. buying the synth all in one. like the korg radias. and one more question. are you any good with like fixing insides of keyboards? I have a yamaha an1x you may see in my newest video. lowest key doesnt work. any suggestions?
@Synthesized13 I use the Micro X with several different controllers. Regarding rack synths, I think they're fine especially if you're just going to use them to play one sound at a time. But I have found that if you want to use them in 16-part multi mode, with a sequencer, it can be a hassle to navigate all of the menus using a small LCD on a single-space module. That's why I recently sold my Motif Rack and Fantom XR and bought a Korg M3 instead.
I just recently got Reason but all I have is a padkontrol and a nanokey. Not to fond of the nanokey as it is so small. I was thinking of the microkorg but Id take any recommendations. Thank you all. :)
@Envergure The MicroX isn't a synthesizer in the same sense as the Gaia. The sound sources are sampled waveforms, not digital oscillators. The MicroX has plenty of synthesizer samples in it, and these can be manipulated a bit, but if you're looking for a "real" synthesizer get the Gaia. All that being said the MicroX makes tons of sounds that a subtractive synth couldn't ever dream of making.
@ihopedisnameworx any of those three. cheap and have good rave sounds. if you wanna get the best one i'd say r3 but microkorg is pretty much a less awesome version and a bit cheaper.
Is the MicroX doing the beats too? I want a just-for-fun synth that can do beats, arpeggiator and a diverse range of synth styles from indie glam rock to hip-hop.
Yes, the Micro X is doing the beats. These are accomplished via one of the arpeggiators. It comes with pre-programmed beats, or you can make your own.
The Micro X is a great "just for fun synth" that has a really varied patch set. Whatever kind of music you want to do, you'll find appropriate sounds in this little thing.
On the others, you can change the sounds and make your own patches. Can stuff be tweaked in this, or are you stuck with the patches without Fx tweaks? Sometimes I like being able to make weird ambient noise and stuff by fiddling around.
This keyboard is sample-based, so the waveforms in it are essentially unchangeable. You can indeed create your own patches, using waveforms from the existing library.
But if you want complete control over the sound you'll need a "real" synthesizer, whether digital or analog. But those instruments are not very good at emulating pianos, strings, horns, drums, etc. That's why many keyboardists will have several instruments, because each has its own strengths and weaknesses.
Can the Micro X control other synths with it's arpeggiator. I know the Triton can do this. I'm considering buying a Micro X to make room in my studio!
I don't know the answer to this - I imagine it can, via MIDI. My suggestion would be to see if the Micro X manual is available for download from the Korg website. Most manufacturers offer them.
thanks a lot for replying!! and one more question!
The MicroX synthesizer doesn't "dispose" any numbers from 0-9 in order to switch sounds fast. So, is there any other way to switch fast between the 900 sounds?? :o
Excellent keyboard/synth! Worth every penny. I have played many synths and this one still comes up top for best for value and sounds. Plus thumbs up for keybdwizzzd!!
if you are looking for an analogue moddeling synth, go for the micro korg (although i strongly reccomend the r3). If you are looking for all sounds in one which aren't modular go for this.
Beautiful tone in this synth. I especially loved the saw string demo you did in another video. I'm looking for a modern synth. I use to play a Jupiter and a Juno 6 as well as some old Yamahas. And I need that vintage sound as well as an occasional realistic sound. Does this use FM synthesis? If so, can it take DX7 patches?
No, the Micro X isn't really a synthesizer in the truest sense of the word, nor does it do FM. It's what is often called a ROMpler, because the sounds are basically samples stored digitally in ROM. Many popular "synths" of the past 15 years are based upon this kind of technology.
I see. Thanks for the explanation. I'm surprised at how warm these tones are. I suppose that it doesn't matter so much that this is a ROMpler. I remember that so many people like myself focused on the presets on older synths anyway! And it seems like I can at least modify sounds. Can the Micro X give you a fat distorted guitar sound or the Jan Hammer Miami-Vice like tones that the original large Korgs can? Also, I'm confused about the difference between this an the Korg R3. Do you know anything?
It has several distorted guitar patches. You'd probably have to play it yourself to hear if they're what you're looking for. And sorry, I have never played the R3.
R3 is an analogue modeling synth. it's basically a digital synth acting like an analogue one through DSP proscessing. so you can just grab a knob and start making you're own sounds.
I just bought a MicroX (in part because of watching these videos) and I agree with the wizard, IMHO they are rather weak, especially since everything else is uniformy excellent. Overall, though, I think it is the best single gear purchase I've ever made, it's an amazing keyboard.
Glad you've enjoyed the videos/music... "Avebury" is indeed referring to the town near you; I visited the stone circle there some years ago, and truly love that part of the UK. Regarding patches, as I understand it the MicroX generally uses the same sound engine as the Tritons, but many of the patches are unique to it, and not compatible with the Tritons. So you may indeed need a MicroX to make that particular sound....
How easy is it to separate the combinations? Like say, you're playing with the Nu Cyber Breaks patch and you want to solo the drums or the bass - is that easy to do fast, or do you have to go through menus?
I'll have to correct You here: Up to EIGHT!! sounds can be split/layered/velocity switched to ones liking. Almost no limit. Ok, expect that some sounds FX-settings 'get lost' in combination mode since the FX section isn't multiplied ie. theres not eight inserts but one, as in Program mode.
Part of the patches, or more accurately, part of the "combis" which are combinations of patches. The drums are triggered via internal arpeggiators in the Micro X.
I use Event 20/20 monitors, but you're not hearing them in the majority of my videos... I record the audio directly from my keyboard mixer into my iMac.
I'm contemplating buying a Micro X. Are most of the sounds in your demos as they come from the factory or do you do a fair amount of voice editing / programming?

thank you! just, can you tell me if it is made of shity plastic or solid plastic? are the knowbs accurate? isee when you say piano sounds are average, but at least, i will have some piano sound!! i do not have any piano in my x station. micro x is a multifunctional machine.. last, give an evaluation point form 1 to 5 and comment it pleaase, for me. thank you very mucu, i appreciate your courtesy. pierpaolo
do they work good? are they accurate? and is it in plastic? just i am wondering about the feeling.. i will send my novation x station for it. think micro x is more usefull for me. last thing, what about piano sounds please? hope in your fast answer. thank you very much. I appreciate your job and courtesy. Pierpaolo
The Micro X is an inexpensive, lightweight instrument. The knobs are made of plastic. In my opinion, the piano sounds are average - not great, but not horrible. Piano sounds are not the best part of the Micro X.
hi, this is pierpaolo from italy. thank you for your nice support in this community. i have been watching your videos for a whole month and in the end i decide to buy a micro x. just on emore thing, could you tell me what about the feeling with this little beast? what about the knobs?
For electronic music production better look at some phrase sampler/groove box ala Roland SP-404/SP-555, Roland MC-808, Akai MPC500, ... Juno-D is OK, I like it's trance/dance synths + classic drum kits like TR-808/TR-909. However, one synth of this class is not enough for music creation. With phrase sampler, you can upload ANY sounds and loops directly from PC and jam with it, adding effects and other stuff in real time. :)
Well, I'm not able to choose between MicroX and X50. They look so similar as sound. Cause the sound is the most important for me. But in the presentation text they say MicroX has "high quality" sounds, and the X50 "professional sounds". Is it a difference, really? Please give me advice. Thanks.
I have never played the X50, but I understand that many of the patches are very similar to the Micro X. I would suggest you visit the forums at the Korg website.
I have a JUNO-D. I think it's the best. Quality sounds, the famous roland sound, excellent design - keys/knobs/buttons. One downside - no USB port. I played on X50/MicroX at store - cheap keys and design - I'm not quite impressed.
How does this Korg Micro X Differ from the microKorg? Besides the look, some of the programs seem the same, other then where you applied percussion. Is the percussion a patch applied to a program?
Nu Cyber Breaks sounds hot. Is it an all-around synth? I normally do electronica, but would want to play around with more natural instruments as well.
Yeah, it's $640.00 CDN here in a store in london ontario, I walked up the that little beast and could not believe the huge sound that came from it, I looked for the price thinking with the built in arpeggiator, that it would be over a grand, to my surprise it was only 649.00 WHAT A DEAL !!! thanks for the demo bud
Hello there! I need an advice! I don`t know what to choose: an Roland XV5050 module or an Korg Micro X. Which sound better? Regards, Adrian

The Micro X is an inexpensive, lightweight instrument. The knobs are made of plastic. In my opinion, the piano sounds are average - not great, but not horrible. Piano sounds are not the best part of the Micro X.

Does all of thoes voices come with the Korg MicroX, or did you need to get computer software?
Shuttle2391 4 years ago
All of the sounds here come with the Micro X.

haren09 4 years ago
I am not familiar with the Korg i4S, but the Micro X is not a "workstation" and does not do recordings.

how do you get all them ochestra sounds!?
just by them keys ?
jamez123123 4 years ago
Yep.
keybdwizrd 4 years ago
wow :) do you have any more ochestra thingss like that ?
do you have to programe it before hand or something
jamez123123 4 years ago
All of the sounds here are programs that come with the keyboard when you buy it.
keybdwizrd 4 years ago
can you extend the keys range by adding a midi controller or something?
Nightwizard17 4 years ago
Yep, you can. Its got a midi i/o. Just stick a cable from midi out of your controller to midi in of the micro-x and you're away.

thank you all, know i am into making hip hop and electronic music, so the JUNO D is the rigths choose?
elsospechas 4 years ago

Thanks.
maelmusician 4 years ago
I have never played the X50, but I understand that many of the patches are very similar to the Micro X. I would suggest you visit the forums at the Korg website.
keybdwizrd 4 years ago
One thing I know for sure is that the micro x does have arabic sounds on it, the x50 hasn't.
cyphersuit1 4 years ago
dude just wondering, which of this is the best? micro korg, micro x, or Juno D?
elsospechas 4 years ago
Sorry, but I really only have experience with the Micro X.
keybdwizrd 4 years ago
I have a JUNO-D. I think it's the best. Quality sounds, the famous roland sound, excellent design - keys/knobs/buttons. One downside - no USB port. I played on X50/MicroX at store - cheap keys and design - I'm not quite impressed.

How does this Korg Micro X Differ from the microKorg? Besides the look, some of the programs seem the same, other then where you applied percussion. Is the percussion a patch applied to a program?
Dogpupkus 4 years ago
Sorry, I have no experience with the microKorg. The Micro X contains drum kits that are programs.
keybdwizrd 4 years ago
Which the microKorg doesn't have :[ Thanks!
Dogpupkus 4 years ago
The synth has "beats" - the arpeggiator can be used to trigger drum kits.
keybdwizrd 4 years ago
hehe, sounds like my triton extreme :)

Nu Cyber Breaks sounds hot. Is it an all-around synth? I normally do electronica, but would want to play around with more natural instruments as well.
ccricers 4 years ago
Yes, I'd call this an all-around synth.
keybdwizrd 4 years ago
I spy a moog little phatty :)
embroisured 4 years ago
Yes, I have lots of videos here on YouTube that feature it.
keybdwizrd 4 years ago
are those sounds all from the one synth? - how much is this synth?
scorpio1066 4 years ago
Yes. About $649 USD new.
keybdwizrd 4 years ago
the sounds are so huge and multi layered i love it
scorpio1066 4 years ago
Yeah, it's $640.00 CDN here in a store in london ontario, I walked up the that little beast and could not believe the huge sound that came from it, I looked for the price thinking with the built in arpeggiator, that it would be over a grand, to my surprise it was only 649.00 WHAT A DEAL !!! thanks for the demo bud

keybdwizrd 4 years ago
Does the micro-x have a sequencer?
Cuning66 4 years ago
