its alot harder to join the cia than the sas and the cia training is alot more difficult. in the cia you have to go into scenarios where you are listening to multiple conversations in different languages at the same time as defusing situations and understanding what is being said. CIa tests people alot further in ways other than just combat. It takes a far higher iq to be cia material than sas and although you gotta be fairly good for sas it is still not like cia training

@sceett Exactly, the only thing the Americans did well there was the amount and types of combat support deployed, the Early Warning aircraft and AHs patrolling etc., although yes indeed, the SAS I believe would have taken Bin Laden alive and inflicted minimum civvy casualties. SEALs really know how to fail at times, compared to the SAS anyway. Plus one of their helis went down. Just another reflection upon how bad the training of their soldiers is. The UK and AUS , SAS are the best in the world. They both have the highest operational and success rate across the globe. Yes the SEAL's are good dont get me wrong thy are AMONG the worlds best but you have to remembers they are basicly the SBS and even then only use half of their training program, the hardest selection and training in the world.

@deltaforce531 oh, so despite the fact that "SEALS" were originally trained by the SAS, in fact, all NATO special forces were (that i know of). They all still use the SAS to teach specialist areas of deployment, concealment etc. this is what the SAS do in order to have free reign of training anywhere in NATO.

However a reduction in funding, which is no doubt on its way, will mean lower quality equipment or less of it and maybe a reduction in training in areas of the globe which may have previously been covered. @mikejlowe, I don't generally agree with you, I believe the reason our Armed Forces are World class is because of the either lack or inadequate/old equipment, they train with what they get given and 'what's around' and I think that's what makes our forces World class, the fact they having got the newest gadgets or gizmo's gives our forces an advantage, if all electrical equipment in the world went down, out of all the lets say 1st world countries, Britain's forces would be more capable.
@TheMitchy93 I can agree with that, however if the tools are available to improve performance and capability why not have them? i'd rather employ an electrician to rewire my house who turns up with a toolbox and not just a stanley knife and a few screwdrivers. I think it would be a matter of pride,that some Armed forces prefer to handle problems in-house,sometimes with tragic consequences..as in the failed rescue of a British hostages in Afgan a few months ago by DEVGRU.

@Elitepoosniff you can't they are the best unit. The best unit is CIA's SAD/SOG. Delta,NZSAS,Australian SAS or British SAS are exactly same. Only very little difference is on selection but training is really exactly same. And most members of CIA's SAD/SOG are former members of 1st-SFOD(Delta or CAG) and has previous special operations experience like ( most members begin 1stly with 75th Ranger then they become SF and at the end Delta). Also German SF is really very well trained unit.

its alot harder to join the cia than the sas and the cia training is alot more difficult. in the cia you have to go into scenarios where you are listening to multiple conversations in different languages at the same time as defusing situations and understanding what is being said. CIa tests people alot further in ways other than just combat. It takes a far higher iq to be cia material than sas and although you gotta be fairly good for sas it is still not like cia training

@sceett Exactly, the only thing the Americans did well there was the amount and types of combat support deployed, the Early Warning aircraft and AHs patrolling etc., although yes indeed, the SAS I believe would have taken Bin Laden alive and inflicted minimum civvy casualties. SEALs really know how to fail at times, compared to the SAS anyway. Plus one of their helis went down. Just another reflection upon how bad the training of their soldiers is. That wouldn't have happened with a brit heli!

The UK and AUS , SAS are the best in the world. They both have the highest operational and success rate across the globe. Yes the SEAL's are good dont get me wrong thy are AMONG the worlds best but you have to remembers they are basicly the SBS and even then only use half of their training program, the hardest selection and training in the world.

They all still use the SAS to teach specialist areas of deployment, concealment etc. this is what the SAS do in order to have free reign of training anywhere in NATO.

They rely too heavily on their "Out tech the enemy" ethos, which takes away from individual brilliance. No..... Neither the SEALS or Delta are better than anyone else. British & Australian SAS, Spetsnaz, GSG9, Mousad are all incredible at their own tasks. The US simply has the best toys.

even if the SAS are the best or not, they can only maintain this if the marines/paras and all other armed forces feeding them with recruits have world class training and facilities. I'm afraid this government with recent cutbacks will ruin the basic building blocks of our armed forces and have a knock on effect right upto these guys. However a reduction in funding, which is no doubt on its way, will mean lower quality equipment or less of it and maybe a reduction in training in areas of the globe which may have previously been covered. I cannot see how current capabilities can be maintained if the money is not there to support it. I should know, im being made redundant by Cameron and Clegg this month!

@mikejlowe, I don't generally agree with you, I believe the reason our Armed Forces are World class is because of the either lack or inadequate/old equipment, they train with what they get given and 'what's around' and I think that's what makes our forces World class, the fact they having got the newest gadgets or gizmo's gives our forces an advantage, if all electrical equipment in the world went down, out of all the lets say 1st world countries, Britain's forces would be more capable.

I think it would be a matter of pride,that some Armed forces prefer to handle problems in-house,sometimes with tragic consequences..as in the failed rescue of a British hostages in Afgan a few months ago by DEVGRU.
The founder of Delta was so impressed by the SAS that he said..."There's the SAS, then there's everyone else" Contemporaries are still impressed by the professionalism and versatility of the SAS in particular.

@Elitepoosniff you can't they are the best unit. The best unit is CIA's SAD/SOG. Delta,NZSAS,Australian SAS or British SAS are exactly same. Only very little difference is on selection but training is really exactly same. And most members of CIA's SAD/SOG are former members of 1st-SFOD(Delta or CAG) and has previous special operations experience like ( most members begin 1stly with 75th Ranger then they become SF and at the end Delta). Also German SF is really very well trained unit.

The only qualification one needs to be an SAS Trooper? Born in the rougher cities of SCOTLAND! There is an old 'joke' is 22 (21 & 23 too) Special Air Service: SAS stands for SCOTTISH AIR SERVICE! Both SOFDetachment-Delta and Sea Air and Land SEAL's are utterly amazing too! And a big shout out for our Aussie and New Zealand cousind s also! Erm...just needed to get that off my chest. But the SAS are rated the best because they started all the special forces that exsist now . I got nothing agianst anyone because i wouldnt be able to shoot someone but the SAS are my first choice if i need help lol

Dude SAS didn't start any spec ops.. They are an inspiration to a lot of Spec Ops groups though.. Don't talk if you don't know what you're talking about... Any spec ops groups are dangerous and good and should be respected... Not downplayed by some uneducated fat nerds who sit on cod with no friends all day. SAS and any other spec ops = Badass... I personally favorite Seals, but I never said they were better. DERP.

Stop comparing! What gives you the ability to judge? You can't you don't even know a fuckin' clue about special forces! Me neither!
They are all good no matter where they are from, USA, UK, Germany, France, Belgium, whatever!

In relation to Western European Nations (UK, Germany, France, Poland et al) the US and Israel, our Tier 1 Special Forces are cross-training constantly!
