  • @nickeax ok

  • Awesome nickeax - I've been learning this riff - with a Capo though... I've got huge, busted up fingers, that's my Capo excuse!

Well done. See you on OCAU.

    Steve {Louis C}

  • H.A used too like the stones for a while,Thats when the stones were really cool

  • Nice lesson, it helps me -as a beginner- without teacher. Great inspiration, thank you very much!

  • Are you in standard tuning, open G tuning? and what are you using for the dirty fuzz tone?

  • Dude this rules!! Very good playing of one of my favourite stones songs. Is it standard tuning?

  • @jaymyer57 Thanks, yeah this is standard tuning.

  • wow

  • thaks it helps me a lot !

  • @sk8bulldog Thanks a lot! I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)

  • AWEWSOME PLAYING. That is a terrific tone . PLease tell me what amp is it??

  • @Roos15 Thanks a lot! The amp was an AC15 Heritage Handwired with a Fulltone Bassdrive II.

  • Nice work. Really like the camera angle as it's how a player sees the guitar.

  • @kharmabum Thanks mate, I'm glad you liked it!

  • @nickeax thanks xD ohh,i forget.. Who is your guitar it´s awsome!

  • @sk8bulldog You're welcome! This is a 2005 US Fender Deluxe Telecaster

  • @uncledevo Yeah.

  • sounds great pal

  • @misterdsen Thanks mate!

  • Thanks man...

  • @jmgx6 You're very welcome!

  • That was awsome, thanks.

  • Thanks and you're welcome!

  • sounds awesome!

  • Cheers!

  • @akyila Thanks a lot!

  • fucking awsome.....!

  • Thank you.

  • That's the angle all of these guitar videos should be shown at IMHO. For me, at least, it makes learning the fingering so much easier. Dude, you da man!!!!

  • Ha ha, thanks a lot.

  • great and great video job, a rambler turn me on

  • Thank you.

  • Nice job with no capo!

  • Cheers champ!

  • nice bud.... Try capo on 7th fret. Seen Keith do that.

  • Oh, OK. In this video though, I was attempting to show people how to play this song without the need for a capo.

  • Ha hahaha This is great, absolutely great, Cheers mate.

  • Thanks!

  • That is what I was looking for amazing job

  • Thank you!

  • wooow sounds awsome :D

  • Thank you! I've made a new version of this video with a more in depth explanation.

    Cheers.

  • The camera angle is genius! Very easy to follow this way. It should be the standard.

  • Thanks for saying so!

  • effing sweet!

  • Why thank you!

  • The advantage of using a capo in THIS song is that it's played in open g tuning with a capo on the fifth fret. It's alright, though, for a standard tuning version, although there are a few mistakes. Keep up the good work.

  • Midnight rambler in open G tuning? Never. It's played with standard tuning.

  • I dunno! I just stumble through life taking stabs at things.

  • I think it is on the 4th fret, but I'm not quite sure about this! You see,the capo is used most of the times because of the vocals and you can never be sure. Some say it's Open G,others say 4th fret or 7th.

  • ok thx, whats the advantage of using a capo?

ive used them an don't like them. With a capo on, open chords can be played at that position, but it seems that much the same can be achieved with bar chords.

In reality, a capo is no different than putting your index finger across, eg. at the D position. Maybe there are some advantages with capo but they seem ellusive

  • I wouldn't know, I never use one.

  • very tidy, is that a strat, neck looks real thin

  • It's a Deluxe Tele judging from the banding on the body, and it sounds like one.

There is a newer video of this, with a more detailed explanation if you're interested?

    PART 1 cmi82Sm0RpU

    PART 2 RbA9PK3KJ9o

  • why audio and video not meanwhile?

  • It was so good I was actually singing along with the playing

  • Awesme. Looking forward to it!

  • I uploaded it a couple of days ago.

    cmi82Sm0RpU PART1

    RbA9PK3KJ9o PART2

  • AND.. the a practical visual perspective. Thanks for the view.

  • I'm glad you liked it! I'm making a new one that is synced and breaks the song down.

  • You're fucking killing me. I'd love to play like that. O man O man O man...

  • that is awesome really stunning but the man our Keith uses without a doubt 100%capo 7 standard tuning. No question though you are awesome Bud crazy scary great. Thanks

  • I like the tone you used, it's bluesy and it's natural overdrive, not too much distortion...

  • Keefin' up a storm ! IIIIIII like it ! Coulda used alittle more China White and a Marlboro but it was so smack !

  • You play it like I do. Standard tuning -no capo. It's a bit harder to play it that way but there are certain things I like about it. Guitar stays in tune (capos cause problems) and you have more freedom in the slower part to get some real blues riffs going. I do believe however, that Keith played with a capo on the 7th for live and probably in the studio as well. Still standard tuning. Nice lesson, audio is delayed though.

  • GREAT!!!RESPECT FROM RIO DE JANEIRO.

  • wHAT AXE ARE YOU PLAYING MAN, AND WHAT EFFECTS ARE YOU USING. LOVED IT.

  • tHAT IS A dELUXE tELECASTER DIRECTLY INTO A pEAVEY cLASSIC 30.

  • That was awsome man. You have to feel it to be able to play like that .

  • I felt it running down my leg.

  • Is this in Open G?

  • It's in OpenGL.

  • Looks like he plays it very well without a capo!!!!

  • Thanks. I try to ignore the whiny bitches. :-)

  • perfect.

  • but i give u a 10 for excellent anyway

  • Hey wheres the capo??..nice job though without it...

  • save yourself a lot of aggravation..ITS PLAYED WITH A CAPO

  • Now you're just repeating yourself. I said now you're just repeating yourself.

  • save yourself a lot of aggravation..its played with a capo

  • Do I come across as an agro person? WELL? DO I? DO I????

  • Finally someone did it the right way! People have become so obessed with the Open G tuning that they start to belive that every KR guitar riff is played that way. 5/5 and really nice sound you got there. :)

  • Thanks mate!

  • what ampli are you using? Great TONE!

  • The preamp is a Marshall JMP-1 into the power amp of a Peavey Classic 30.

  • Sounds cool. Anyone who bitches that "you're not playing it right" is a great ponce.

  • finally a lesson from the guitar players point of view! so much easier to see whats going on instead of trying to turn the fretboard around in your head !

  • jour playing it wrong..

  • Thanks for the tip mate. When you get to my age, the world is just a big confusing mess, so will you forgive me for this one mistake? :-)

  • C'mon Tniah...let us supose that I play some song, and someone ask me to play this one, and I have first to tune guitar in *open G* (desirable), than to take capo and to fix it....and after minimum 5 to 10 minutes to start playing Midnight Rambler....I WILL MASTER THIS VERSION!

  • Yeah... Um, that's why I did it! :)

Actually, I had no idea about the capo, but I knew that Keith often uses an open D tuning.

    /me is an old fool

  • Really great job, I agree! Whoever master your version of the song need nothing to learn any more in *classic* rock 'n roll(Chuck Berry stile) riff playing. BRAVO!

  • Maybe just a /couple/ of things. :-)

  • are you using your telecaster or your strat? great job!

  • Thank you very much! I am using the Tele here. I can tell because of the the dot inlays! :-)

  • Great job. Great way to show how to play something. You can really appreciate technique. I've never been a Stones fan but I've just started to learn to play guitar it's the Stones I want to learn. Wonder why that is?!

  • I'm glad you found this helpful mate! Maybe not the best song if you're a complete beginner, but not impossible either. :-)

  • Believe me, he's not the only one who found this helpfull.

    Thanks a lot man

By the way, is not clear for me if you are using a G open tuning or D or whatever or is just standard tunning

nice tele, great tone;) I have a strat from late 70's, great guitars, bit heavy but great tone.

    KEEP POSTING!;)

  • This standard tuning, so it's technically wrong.

  • technically wron my ass, sound's perfect man.

we have to make you a monument for doing all those videos, thanks

    ff

  • Thats the nuts my freind ,i'd give testicles to be able to play that .top job

  • It's just a Marshall JMP-1. You can grab one off eBay for around $400 these days!

    HIGHLY recommended.

  • thats a nice job on one of my fav stones tunes. however, i took tniah's advice and capoed up on the 7th and it was easier for me because i had more fingers available to hit those modified shuffle notes. you did a great job by barring but for some of us it aint easy to work that much noodleing without using the index finger also. thanks for posting!

  • I agree with beefstonfields, don't be a wally, to do it right, you have to do the capo at 7. It actually changes the tone and sound and gives it way more punch. You can sit with the record and get it lick for lick. Standard, capo 7th fret, E D A shapes in different sequences, you play the D shape with an open 6th string, then the breakdown is just a blues E shape, A shape, open all the way, then E shape. As Del Boy would say, "you know it makes sense."

  • By the way, any chance you could tell me where to find tabs for this version (std tuning).

    Thanks

  • very impressive!!! Specially without the capo! GREAT job

  • Keith uses capo 7th fret standard tuning

  • the only way to play it bro...yes...

  • this will sound retarded but im new at guitar and i love the stones and want to play some of there riffs....but which strings do you strum whilst doing this?

  • About which strings to hit, the basic idea is to pick, not strum, ONLY 2 or 3 strings at a time, and sharpen your ear to know which ones. Try your best to keep the rest of them muted. That'll come. A more advanced technique is fingerpicking the strings, but skip that. Learn your basic techniques first. There are no dumb questions either. The fact you ask shows you're ready to grow. Be patient with yourself. This ain't Guitar Hero. That's mostly for retards and lazy wannabes.

  • Nah, man. That ain't a dumb question at all. I'm 55, and have been playing just under two years and that's exactly the kind of question I keep asking my (very expensive) teacher. Just keep on pluggin' away, and sooner or later it all comes together.

  • sounds neat man. Too bad that there is something wrong with the synchronicity, which makes it a little difficult to learn from here. Nice guitarist-friendly point of view too :-)

    Keep it up!

  • ...not exactly a "how to play"...dont name your vids "how to play" if you dont show us step by step what each chord is. i learned nothing from this vid. youre a good guitar player, but you fooled me with the " how to play" thing. i thought i was gonna learn something off this vid...

  • You should be able to pick this up fairly easy if you're an intermediate player. I mean the camera placement is excellent. Maybe you should practice your 12 bar blues then you will have a little easier time with this. Not knockin' ya. Just trying to help.

  • now I'm not sure, because yours sounds great in standard.

  • Best I have heard.

    Open G tuning??

  • It's in standard tuning. But you are correct, it's supposed to be played in open G tuning. :-)

  • No actually it's played in standard tuning but with capo on 7th fret.

  • oh man thank you I've nailed this now I wasnt ever sure about those little embelleshments

  • Great playing but still a little off. You really need a Capo at the 7th fret to get all the little intricacies of it. Still great though!

  • Thanks I've been trying to figure that little 7th riff for years never could quite find it...so much simpler to just watch you do it...Get Yer Ya Ya's out! I went to that concert on my 9th birthday!

  • That was awesome!! I wish it had an actual walk through of how to do it though.. It doesnt look like its too hard, but without detailed directions it would take a long time to figure out.

  • Probably one of the great guitar riffs. Kudos and much praise to the guitarist playing this. What I wouldn't give to be able to play like this. I've tried, but my four "guys" just can't ever seem to get organized. My fave Stones tune, anyway.

  • Capo on 7th fret and it's like falling off a log easy.

  • I wish I could do that :(

Great video mate, you nailed it!

  • I like it up to 1:46 where it starts not sounding like "Midnight Rambler." Great tone though and great playing.

  • One of my absolute favorite riffs!

  • Man you nailed that, awesome.I am not a guitarist but a mediocre harp player turned on initially by this tune. You are cutting it brilliant, bravo.

Would love to watch you do "can't you hear me knocking" or "stray cat".

What is technically most difficult Keef parts and how do you rate him vs his peers?

  • Wow. Anybody that can move 4 fingers like that is blessed. I thank the man that gave this to us.

  • Very, Very nice...great job!

  • Very, very nice!

  • are you real an asshole?

  • I bought a capo yesterday and tried to follow the video.. that's great :-)! Of course the capo changes the sound of my telecaster. I've listened to this song for more than 20 years and did'nt thought doing it that way. Thanks for the video and the posts !!

  • I think a capo on the 7th fret is much easier to play

  • When we used to play this as a cover in our band we always played with a Capo on the 7th fret...Thats how Keith used to play it anyway. Are using a VOX AC30?

  • I was using a Marshall JMP-1 through a Peavey Classic 30. I guess you could see this as a way to play it if you just want to pick up any old guitar and belt it out?

    Cheers.

  • Its open G.

  • where can I find a good tab for it? thanks

  • I hate, and I have a love hate relationship with hate, to tell you, but you are wrong. Capo up to the seventh fret like a man and it's in E. E,...D,...A..

  • Open G tuning ?

  • wow you played this great but how am i learning from this...?

  • I assume that this is in standard tuning? Thanks for the post! Sounds great...

  • great man

  • Amazing. What a treat.Thanks.

  • Outstanding!

  • sweet tone...loved it!
